I agree with the comment above that John is a bit out-classed in style by Anthony and Ronan though I have always been a fan of his. In most of John's albums, not only does he provide great vocal interpretations but the selelction of music and the arrangements are way above average for the genre.
The other member that impresses me is Ronan. Besides his outstanding voice and interpretive skills he is also a double amputee and an MD specializing in Orthopedic Sports Injuries.
@machree01 Yes, and Anthony will be 40 tomorrow, Auyg 17th 2011. HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANTHONY. I will love you til the day I die. Thank you Machree01 for all your devotions to the Irish Tenors. I've appreciated them through the years.
the reason why they sound irish and have thicker accents is because the other two are actually from Ireland and still reside there whereas John McDermott hasnt
there not powerfull trust me compared to some of the italian tenors, frankly i think it brings the spanish lady song to lower rank which i believe it doesnt deserve sorry poor
@glasgowtalisman I listened to the Dubliners version and didn't like it as much. The song sounds better with an orchestra, for some reason. The version with Finbar Wright was better than this, but, no, never the Dubliners version.
You won't find many bigger John McDermott fans than me, but I must say that he sticks out like a sore thumb singing with these two. His group members here clearly are classically trained, singing with powerful voices in an operatic style. He is a pigmy here.
What makes John such a great singer of the old irish and sottish ballad is that he doen't sing them in an operatic style. He sings them the way in which they should be sung: like how an irishman or scotsman from the bog would sing them.
While I know that Anthony and Ronan are classically trained singers, I much prefer John's voice and don't find that he is "putting on a thick accent" as was posted here. Great performance!
Agreed. John McDermott is just about my favorite singer of all time, and he doesn't fake his accent. Besides, the accent is part of why I like his singing so much :P
machree01, thanks for posting this gem too! This isn't the first time you see me saying that I envy the Irish for their music (and SINGERS!) and I'm afraid it won't certainly be the last either! ;-)
John's Scottish, he now lives in Canada. He has a great number of singles. Anthony has the most haunting version of "Grace". A few years ago,Ronan moved to America and became a citizen.I believe "God less America" has become his favorite song.He sang it at Ronald Reagan's funeral. He has done it at numerous ball games. They all have spectacular voices.
No they aren't. This version is better, because the song is supposed to be sung by a man, listen to the lyrics. Celtic Woman leaves out the last verse. Don't get me wrong, I like Celtic Woman, just not their version of this song. The Dubliners do a good version too, but use different lyrics.
It's funny to watch an operatic performance where the performers are having the craic onstage. Go on the tenors!! Also I FREAKING LOVE THIS SONG!!!

of all the groups using the name "Irish Tenors".These 3 are the best of all the rest.

I totally agree...these are absolutely the best...even tho John M. puts it on a bit thick with the accent. They are great and this is a superb video.

Yeah but they look and sound like they actually enjoy it, not just because you're singing in front of a bunch of ppl.
