  • I used an 85mm F/1.4 EX DG HSM Lens for this shoot. Would anyone recommend this lens? Thumbs up for yes

  • my god... why the fuck shouldn't i open my aperture??

if i would get 1/6 second shutter speed, and im at aperture 18 why the fuck should i take a picture?

just open your aperture and u dont have to do anything else! this guy has no clue!

  • @TheFlo1512 by choosing a wider aperture, you'll decrease the depth of field and the size of the aperture changes how much light is on the subject when flash is on. HE knows what he is talking about. YOU have no clue. do a bit of researching or practicing before coming here and insulting.

  • @ashkibala1 u think im stupid?? i know all that! then he should just decrease his flash power! damn -.-

  • Google "Prince M.Ac Photography"

  • This is my first photography video (:

    /watch?v=GALzzWe2rV0

  • tnx alot..:D

  • what if you don't have flash guns? you only have your camera and tripod, could these effects can be achive?

  • @elibryn1: yes you can i already tried it, im using nikon d3100 with lens kit, just adjust yung aperture to lets say f18 and your shutter speed to 1/250. just try different shots and you will be surprise with the results :)

  • Good job!

  • I'm moving from Video into flash photography. A few years back I did still work and almost always shot without a flash, mainly because I didn't understand how to get good shots with a flash (unless I was photographing raindrops or just taking away shadow). I have a one off shoot coming up in the dark and your lesson on flash sync has helped. I'll treat the event as experimental and hope to get something usable. Thanks for the advise.

  • what about the ISO? what's the value?

  • Thanks for this! Made it easy to explain to someone who wasn't getting my description!!

  • Im new to photography and I have a question.. I have a nikon L22 and its pretty good for its price. Im actually suprised by the pics it can take. But when it comes to capturing birds and other wildlife its kinda hard. My main focus in photography is anything wildlife. Mammals, insects, birds, etc. What would be the best type of camera for that kind of stuff?

  • @SuckDeezNutzBitch I have a Nikon and it takes animals well.

  • @SuckDeezNutzBitch take a canon G12

  • @SuckDeezNutzBitch If you wanna get serious in Photography, Hook yourself with a DSLR. That's what you need to all that kinda stuff you wanna do.. :)

  • Hi Mark! my question for this episode is, why are my photos turning out bright with the same settings you instructed, f18 at 250th? am i not suppose to use my speedlight?

  • Lol i love you man .... know i know how to use my D-SLR.... you are the best. thanks.

  • Mr. Mark,

I like this even 3 years ago.

I'm gonna view your video tips

    Thanks..

  • Check out my photography, just click on the channel name

  • i dont get it, the option he used earlier was all at f stop 18, at the end of the video it was f4.5, with my 24-107L i dont think i can ge that dark of a background with f4.5 cause my lens is F4, please explain

  • @ShieldOfAiur If you wanna get a dark background just increase your f stops. Higher the aperture, smaller the iris.. Lower the aperture, bigger the iris.. :)

I hope it solved your problem..

Keep your shutter speed to 1/200th

  • @shonasam840 wow thanks!

  • @ShieldOfAiur Anytime.. :)

  • It is strange that when you illustrate the shutter you demonstrate the movement with a horizontal shutter but show a vertical shutter! Hmmm!

  • I bought myself an Olympus E-410 camera yesterday.

Being my first DSLR camera,I am new to it.

I can`t fully understand the shutter speed settings.I mean, when I set it higher(above 80),the shot comes out really dark.I doubt I need to tamper with the ISO too.Or should I? Or I have to set different apperture too?

I dont understand.I kept trying to take shots of water dripping, but it came out so dark.

  • @acefujikura When you set the camera set it to auto and experiment. If you are going to use manual settings and the subject is 'static' use aperture priority and in daylight set this to about f8. The shutter will then do its own thing. If the subject is moving then use shutter priority and a speed of at least 1/125th sec. In the case of the water dripping this would be shutter priority. You need a speed of at least 1000th sec and lots of light. If the image is too dark there is not enough light.

  • @acefujikura Further to my previous answer. Trying to catch water droplets would usually mean using flash lighting. However as a starter try shutter priority and use the highest speed you can. Take a shot and look at the image - if it is dark reduce the shutter speed gradually until you get a reasonable exposure. If the droplets are blurred you need to increase the available light, hence needing a flash. Lastly search uTube for "photography water drops" there are lots of videos.

  • @JimTBell Well,in the last two weeks I really got to know my camera,I realised how the apperture/shutter works.I`m truely fascinated by photography, and there are so much to learn.I`m experimenting with bokeh`s,light-painting,tilt-shifting,HDR and Photoshop nowadays,it`s all so overwhelming and mindblowingly amasing!.. But thank you for your advice,I really apreciate it.

  • @acefujikura Take it all one step at a time. You have the advantage of being able to use photoshop and using digital. When I started it was all film and wet working with aper and chemicals. Use the local library for photographic books and watch the videos. I have a few videos on You Tube (youtube.com/watch?v=XhY8C7sxlQ8) This will lead you to some of mine.

  • Photography is for the lazy artists.

  • @godlytroller I would suggest you get a life. Photography has no relation to art in the sense that you mean. It is an art in its own right. I wonder if you are an artist or a frustrated artist.

  • @JimTBell

Haha I knew that you piss you off. Don't get mad at me just b/c photography sucks. It is not my fault that you are not getting enough money from it! Artists are so much better than you pseudo fail photographers. I can paint and sell while your pictures are only good for ass wiping. LOSER!

  • @godlytroller Sonny I made a very good living for over 40 years. One set of images I sold made over £5000! Other images made me a lot of money. I never compared myself with being an artist because painting never interested me. I once met and photographed artist Terence Cuneo who paid me the compliment of saying I was a good photographer. Get it through your head Photographers are photographers and painters are painters - two different mediums.

  • @JimTBell

Photography is for the lazy and creatively challenged artists. Yeah, I said it. I don't need any stupid machine to capture the beauty around me. I have the ability to capture it myself. trololololololol

  • @godlytroller Maybe you could upload some of your work so we can judge how good you are. I bet there are more people out there taking photographs than out there painting. Try capturing a moving subject with your paintbrush. Sorry you can't win this argument - not on this page. You are a minority!

  • @JimTBell

Upload my painting so you can plagerize it? You think I'm fucking retarded like you? Bitch please.

  • @godlytroller I know you cannot spell plagiarise. I have just look at your site. I can see that you are in a lunatic asylum by the straight jacket you are wearing. Your not an artist and I doubt you can paint. Call the nurse to change you nappy!

  • @JimTBell

And you can't spell either. So don't criticize b/c you have a shitty job and you can't spell. As for the asylum and jacket bullshit, don't bring your family into this. We are here to talk about how photography is for the fake and fail artists like yourself. Youtube is not a spelling class bitch boy.

  • @godlytroller Sorry I don't work anymore. "criticize" Try criticise. Of course you are a Yank. None of you can spell English words. You still need to prove you are an artist which I doubt. I'll place my work against yours anytime. I am not a failed artist. Never wanted to be one. I would suggest you grow up and become an adult like the rest of us. Until you prove your an artist this debate is now at an end. Bye Yank.

  • @JimTBell

Congratulation! You have made it to my pwned list!

  • @JimTBell He's not really a painter. He typed in photography, clicked on the first video, muted it and wrote a stupid, controversial comment. He'll then type in football, click on the first video then comment saying rugby's the best sport. He doesn't have a clue what he's talking about, he's just laughing at how you reacted to him. That's what makes him happy in life, sad...

  • @DuskAndHerEmbrace13 I think it is obvious what he is. There is a video on his site which shows - probably him - in a straight jacket. He is one of the strange Americans you often come across.

  • @JimTBell I'm pretty surprised you didn't realise he was a troll considering his name and considering how dumb the comment was!

  • Re: key shifting. That last photo must have been 0.8 sec not .08 as was shown. That wouldn't have made sense. The previous exposure was 1/2 sec (=50/100 sec) so if you went next to to .08 it would have less, not more light.

  • what does it mean when people say f/8?

  • I have a question

you said you have to wait until First Curtain is fully open when you are using a flash..At night or in a dark area when I take a photo I can see that the shutter speed is much slower than during daylight time or in a bright room.

But I don't really feel any difference in shutter speed when I use a flash, although

the photo come out without any dark area.

  • fabulous! thanks so much :D

  • If you were somewhere that you cannot use a flash, then what would you do to get the same effect?
