TORQUE is the only thing that moves your car.hp is just a way to measure engine output. and how long you can maintain your torque is even more important. i have built h22t, b16t running as high as 20psi and even a all motor vr6 w cams, under drive pulleys, header 3" exhaust ect... and even the e36 b16 on 20psi had a hard time making the 290ftlb range that the vr6 had.

lets start from the top.. the vr6 makes its power early because it has a very low rod to stroke ratio and there for has a lot of torque.. not hp.
it seems pretty easy to just add springs and your good too go but thats not how it is. first off your valves dont open far enough to take in air at high rpm and looking back at the rod/stroke ratio, the parts start moving too fast for their own mass and will just fall

I think you vw people need to know that torque, HP, and rpm are inversely related.
HP=(Torque X RPM)/5252
The faster the engine, more hp. More torque will also give more hp but to get more torque the engine is bigger. On vw engine is bigger but spins slower. On honda the engine is smaller but spins faster. So at the end your big ass torquey engine doesn't give you shit because all it is, is heavy slow crap. Honda is a little smarter. Instead of adding weight to make hp, they made a fast vtec ;)

Ya Si makes about the same hp but only puts down about 130tq. VW has never made a super high revving engine. Thats hondas thing. Doesn't mean they suck at making engines. Just means they choose a different route to 200hp. Plus i only need to spend $600 and I'm putting 220hp/260tq to the wheels. :-D haha.

the cobalt ss doesnt have 260whp.. and thats what counts, not how much is put down at the crank.. its also a clumsy fwd that can't take corners, which is something the S2k was designed in mind with, rather than being a savvy attempt to save a failing company by appealing to a youth market.. The SS might be faster in a 1/4 but top end and drivability at those speeds remain with the Honda..

Thats a B16 vs a VR6 and the VR won fair and square. 12v vr6 cant make much more than stock numbers without turbo due in part to shitty head flow. B16s suck in general due to the lack of a usable powerband. I put a B18B in my civic over the B16 because of that. Some of you honda kids are pretty ignorant in the fact that sometimes your precious vtec engines will lose to motors like the VR6 handsdown most of time because of a little thing called torq.

You do know the difference between EX, DX, SI etc? Obviously not. All civic's come with D series SOHC vtec/non V motors. The SI on the other hand has the b16 DOHC engine. So no, it's not a integra swap. That's how it comes from factory. So before you go flaming on more civic's. Try reading up and doing some research before you make youself seem more of a fool.

I was driving the Si. Redline shifts in every gear from a 50 roll. My friend in the GTI had standard Intake/Exhaust/Chip Mods. The si, intake/exhaust. We tried the same roll-on start about 5 times. Same result. V6 breathes much better up top.

Lets be honest, the VR6 was the high-end sport model of the golf range, so its only fair that you compare it to the high-end sport equivalent civic of the time...the EK9 Type R...which would destroy that VR6 despite having only a 1.6 litre 4-cylinder engine! The equivalent to this civic SI would be the Mk3 GTi, and i think you'll find the honda would win that as well.

you should know that evo;s and WRX, and sti's all lose about 25% of there hp due to the AWD. my 08' civic si stock would rape a WRX. not an STI. however, give me a turbo at 8 psi, and the evo, and sti wont win. there rated at about 279-289hp, - 25% for AWD, vs. a 260-280hp si. factoring in the weight difference, the si would win. everytime.

and shit vtec doesnt even turn on untill 4.5> rpm on hondas so obviously most power is higher in the rpm.
honda= way better engine then the iron block heavy ass vr6 because its aluminum and small and light and cost more than iron..
the newer vr6 is 190 hp.. that big ass engine only makes that much power compared to a gsr or type r 1.8 170 and 180hp..

lets start from the top.. the vr6 makes its power early because it has a very low rod to stroke ratio and there for has a lot of torque.. not hp.
it seems pretty easy to just add springs and your good too go but thats not how it is. first off your valves dont open far enough to take in air at high rpm and looking back at the rod/stroke ratio, the parts start moving too fast for their own mass and will just fall

I think you vw people need to know that torque, HP, and rpm are inversely related.
HP=(Torque X RPM)/5252
The faster the engine, more hp. More torque will also give more hp but to get more torque the engine is bigger. On vw engine is bigger but spins slower. On honda the engine is smaller but spins faster. So at the end your big ass torquey engine doesn't give you shit because all it is, is heavy slow crap. Honda is a little smarter. Instead of adding weight to make hp, they made a fast vtec ;)

Ya Si makes about the same hp but only puts down about 130tq. VW has never made a super high revving engine. Thats hondas thing. Doesn't mean they suck at making engines. Just means they choose a different route to 200hp. Plus i only need to spend $600 and I'm putting 220hp/260tq to the wheels. :-D haha.

Now why would i take the turbo that the factory put on? If they wanted to go NA they would have put higher CR pistons, taller cams and made sure everything was balanced. But they didn't.
I'd love to have a cobalt save for one thing. The shitty rent a car interior. Same reason i don't like civics.
The S2000 is not faster than an SSTC. The SS puts down about 230 to the wheels. Wow only 10hp less than the CRANK hp of the S2000. It only weights 2900lbs too.

the cobalt ss doesnt have 260whp.. and thats what counts, not how much is put down at the crank.. its also a clumsy fwd that can't take corners, which is something the S2k was designed in mind with, rather than being a savvy attempt to save a failing company by appealing to a youth market.. The SS might be faster in a 1/4 but top end and drivability at those speeds remain with the Honda..

gotta remember that if you put a stock turbo on a high compression engine it goes boom! lowering compression also makes you lose power..... so it's unlikely that an si will be faster with the same turbo

You guys are retarded. Torque has nothing to do with anything if your engine cant rev high. Horsepower is how much power your engine is producing in a minute and if your engine is spinning faster then your obviously making more power. Thats whats cool about honda engines.. They can rev high and not break so just keep ur rpms high and youll get the most power. VW is a piece of shit. a 2.0 vs a 1.6 honda and honda kills it?? why? cause it can rev high and make more power ;)

Thats a B16 vs a VR6 and the VR won fair and square. 12v vr6 cant make much more than stock numbers without turbo due in part to shitty head flow. B16s suck in general due to the lack of a usable powerband. I put a B18B in my civic over the B16 because of that. Some of you honda kids are pretty ignorant in the fact that sometimes your precious vtec engines will lose to motors like the VR6 handsdown most of time because of a little thing called torq.

Type R is one model..andt a GS-R..The JDM B18C Spec-R (B18C5 for USDM) equipped Type-R produced 197 hp, my Integra is Type-R but real power is between 187-192hp. And the new Acura/Honda RSX Type-S have 2.0L 210hp(K20Z1)...you learn more about Integra's.

You do know the difference between EX, DX, SI etc? Obviously not. All civic's come with D series SOHC vtec/non V motors. The SI on the other hand has the b16 DOHC engine. So no, it's not a integra swap. That's how it comes from factory. So before you go flaming on more civic's. Try reading up and doing some research before you make youself seem more of a fool.

I was driving the Si. Redline shifts in every gear from a 50 roll. My friend in the GTI had standard Intake/Exhaust/Chip Mods. The si, intake/exhaust. We tried the same roll-on start about 5 times. Same result. V6 breathes much better up top.

I'm not a honda fan boy but, I have to say if you care about value for money, handling, power per liter, reliability and low running costs,you buy a civic. If you don't care about these things you buy a golf. Some people have different priorities when buying a car, live with it.

agreed vw are a bit costly but build quality is unmatched. hondas on the other hand dont need smart drivers cause you dont even need to have oil in them and they will still run(they always smoke blue its funny)

2.8 six-cylinder VS. fairly average 1.6 four-cylinder? is that a fair comparison? Lets be honest, the VR6 was the high-end sport model of the golf range, so its only fair that you compare it to the high-end sport equivalent civic of the time...the EK9 Type R...which would destroy that VR6 despite having only a 1.6 litre 4-cylinder engine! The equivalent to this civic SI would be the Mk3 GTi, and i think you'll find the honda would win that as well.

you should know that evo;s and WRX, and sti's all lose about 25% of there hp due to the AWD. my 08' civic si stock would rape a WRX. not an STI. however, give me a turbo at 8 psi, and the evo, and sti wont win. there rated at about 279-289hp, - 25% for AWD, vs. a 260-280hp si. factoring in the weight difference, the si would win. everytime.

im sick of u people who compare horsepower. whats the point if u cant drive it to its full potntial. i take my 89 gti 16v on the track at limerock, a road course, and beat most cars just becaue my car handles better than most. i have very limited horespower, but the car runs very very well so i get around fine. then i take a european market audi coupe gt that has quattro but no turbo and beat an sti around a frozen lake in canada.

h22, with a b16 tranny. turboed is pretty untoughable depending on the boost. it's also like 2k lbs... my boy is building one as we speak now. i also raced a VW in my 2008 SI and beat him. he was surprized as all hell. there good cars and fast as hell, in this race, it was a drivers race. i have i/h/e, thats it.

why do honda fans always have an excuse when they lose? Its engine is twice the size, its not an si, blah blah blah. But what about the "mighty" v-tech that supposedly smokes vr6's? not vw's fault for actually putting some torque behind their engines, honda should give it a try
