  • Terrific version, but horrible hairpiece!!! LOL!!! Anyway he rocks!!!

  • Gute Version von Johnny , aber der Song ist im Original von Janis Joplin!

Ich galube es gibt keine Sängerin & keinen Sänger der diesen Kult Song noch nicht coverde.

  • He looks like Joe Pesci in 1:33

  • what a rockin version of this song! Thanks for posting..Anyone know where this is from?

  • Hurt

  • who cares who wrote the song...its beautiful just enjoy it for what it is ok

  • This is just Johnny doin what he did best, makin a good somg great!!

  • So WHOSE version does Johnny imagine he is covering? I would love to know... I am so confused.

  • @SCBianchi He's doing his OWN version of a Kristofferson song

  • Johnny Cash on acoustic guitar & vox, W.S. 'Fluke' Holland on drums, Bob Wooton on electric rhythm guitar, Marshall Grant on bass and the one and only Carl Perkins on lead electric guitar! Cannot see who is playing the piano. Song written by Kris Kristofferson. First made a hit by Roger Miller, then recorded by Janis Joplin for whom it was written. Nice version, thanks.

  • feelin good isnt good enough for for 5 people

  • James Burton on guitar ?

  • @polo339 Nope, his name is Bob Wootton. Anita Carter's husband.

  • The fact is Kris wrote this song about Janis, and called her Bobby McGee in the song.

  • I helped Kris Kristofferson write this song but I never got credit.

  • Beautiful!

  • Love this version, as I love all things Cash.... I still have to say my favorite version is Miller's, followed closely by Joplin, then this not far behind. Also, for the uneducated one that says this "sounds less gay" when sung by Joplin... this song was originally about a girl named Bobby. Janice actually changed the gender for her version.

  • sounds less gay when Janis sings it..but great version anyway!!

  • oka guys I get it the song is by kris kristofferson. my bad lay off.

  • After listening too Janis Joplin's version i can't seem to listen to anything else.

  • Kris Kristofferson wrote this song and many others. He may have been the greatest songwriter of our time. Janis made it famous but others just as good recorded it.

  • This background makes me feel as faded as my jeans

  • Kris wrote it for his friend Janis

Johnny sings it too fast as he also does Kris' song Sunday Morning Coming Down

but still good. They were all great artists.

  • check out pinks version !

  • Love this!

  • Being a hard Johnny Cash fan ever since the late 60's, I surely appreciate his version of this masterpiece written by Kris. But it is absolutely not the best version ever recorded. In my opinion, neither is the 'stoned' version recorded by Janis. Actually, another one of Kris's former 'darlings', Joan Baez, does a much better job with it! Go check it out for yourselves, there are a few recordings with her available here on YT.

  • Too Fast!

  • LoL...the bass player all of a sudden woke right up at 1:07

  • very cool

  • Johnny Cash does the best version of this song :)

Kris Kristofferson really did something special when he wrote this one!

  • Thankyou Kris Kristofferson for writing this brilliant song==Johnny does a great country version but i think yours is sung with more feeling....

  • By far the best version of Me And Bobby McGee, hes the king.

  • @newrealization12 I'm sorry but you're wrong. Check it at BMI.

  • @newrealization12 I'm sorry but you're wrong. Kris wrote the song. Check it at BMI.

  • @JW56JW nothing to check! its by Kris !

  • Kris K. penned it yes..Janis did it justice..

  • @coopercity1 sorry janis did not do it justice she sucked all her songs did its hard to sing all doped up

  • @JW56JW

Take the time to do the research. Kris was being pressured to write a concept song by his label founder, Fred Foster, about a travel companion who (Wow!) turned out to be a woman. Kris didn't want to, but on a road trrip got the song Why You Been Gone So Long by Mickey Newbury stuck in his head. He based the rhythm on that. The structure was based on the film La Strada.

Roger Miller was the first to record it.

Don't post crap unless you know what you're talking about.

  • @JW56JW

Sorry, newrealization12, but at this point I'm a little confused about who has claimed what. If you weren't the one screwed up on the history of this song, then consider my previous rant as an ill-aimed arrow.

  • It was originally sung by a guy, featuring "Bobbie" as a female. Wiki it, bro.

  • @JW56JW Kris wrote the song for Johnny Cash :-)

  • @micrask Kris wrote the song for Jannis Joplin, they were dating before she died.

  • @JW56JW It said here that it was first perform by Roger Miller

  • @JW56JW No he wrote this song for Roger Miller. Kristofferson states he did not write this song for her, but the song is associated with her.

  • @newrealization12 The song "Me and Bobby Mcgee" was written by Kris Kristofferson. Johnny Cash pretty much "discovered" Kristofferson.

  • @newrealization12 Kris wrote this song :)

  • @newrealization12 Kris wrote this song :)

  • @newrealization12 Kris Kristoferson wrote it....but I hear he was the friend who showed it to Janis.

  • @newrealization12

...."Me and Bobby McGee" is a song written by Kris Kristofferson and Fred Foster, originally performed by Roger Miller, and later by others including Kristofferson himself, and also Janis Joplin, who topped the U.S. singles chart with the song in 1971....

  • @newrealization12 don´t lie, the song was originally performed by kris kristofferson, he also wrote it!!!!!

  • @kalifa082074 This is true, not a lot of people know this because it was Janis that made it famous. It was her only #1 hit and she wasn't even alive to see it hit #1 sad.

  • @newrealization12 Its Kris Kristofferson song:)

  • @newrealization12 Kris Kristofferson & Fred Foster wrote this, Janis Joplin was just one of many who covered it.

  • @newrealization12 Bullshit, Kris Kristofferson wrote it and Roger Miller recorded it in May 1969. Janice Joplin recorded it days before her death and it reached number 1 on the US charts in 1971, after her death. 2nd person to have that dubious honour after Otis Redding with 'Sitting on The Dock of The Bay'. It was on her 'Pearl' album'.

  • @hirdy6 roger miller does it best

  • @newrealization12

Kris Kristoffersen wrote that for her..

    Regards

  • @newrealization12

Kris Kristoffersen wrote that for her..

    Regards

  • @newrealization12

    Kris Kristofferson penned this.

    I should know...

  • I'm a hughe Cash fan but from 1:07 and on the bassplayer ruins this great tune.

  • @silenceDKgmail cmon! thats pretty awesome, turning it to a cool rockabilly. shhh

  • @newrealization12 Ummm... Kris Kristofferson wrote the song, and it was then performed by Janis, Johnny, and Willie on seperate occasions. You have to remember that this was a time when songs were written for the use of anybody.

  • @newrealization12 Hahahahahaha! The friend who wrote it was Kris Kristofferson.

  • @moominpic yes Sir......

  • @newrealization12 It was originally recorded by Roger Miller

  • @newrealization12 It was written by Kris Kristofferson but first recorded by Roger Miller (1969). Gordan Lightfoot had a #13 hit on the pop charts (1970) but Janis Joplin's version (1971) was the first to hit #1 on the singles chart. Since Janis dated Kris for some time in the year(s) just before her death, that may be where she got the idea to cover the song. She recorded her version just before her death but didn't tell Kris, who only found out when he was played it the day after her death.

  • @CharleenCC Also, you should know that in edition to the hit versions by Roger Miller and Gordan Lightfoot, there were 5 other non-charting version/covers of the song prior to Janis Joplin's hit version including versions by Kenny Rogers & The First Edition ((1969), Ramblin' Jack Elliott (1970), Bill Haley & His Comets (1970), Sam The Sham (1970), and finely Kris Kristofferson's own recording of his song on his debut album Kristopherson (1970).

  • @newrealization12 no, you fool, this song wrote kris kristofferson, and he was dating janis at the time, and he performed it first.....

  • Freedom Is Just Another Word For Nothing Left To Lose ... so great

  • Feelin' good was good enough for me...........

I'd trade all my tomorrow's for one single yesterday........

  • Thank you for posting. You can also listen to the french version by Johnny Hallyday ( 1975 ) . Friendly from France.

  • Kris was a great songwriter. He should have stayed away from "singing" and acting.

  • Great Johnny !!! He's #1 !!!

  • Johnny was the real deal, not like the pimped-up overproduced media darling that Elvis sold his soul to become. If he hadn't sold his soul, maybe Elvis would have stayed with us longer. Another tragic waste.

  • @Aerohog1 Sold his soul??? Do you know what you talking about?

  • @JW56JW it´s true elvis sold his soul, nothing else.....

  • @JW56JW

Ok, maybe not in his heart, but he let a bunch of self-serving hucksters take control of his career and turn him in to a pathetic parody of himself while he was still alive. But that's the music biz. Nashville is still a factory that doles out stardom on an organized schedule.

  • @Aerohog1 the real deal was Evander Holyfield....but Johnny was the greatest ever...Benny

  • @Aerohog1 well, It's just luck that Johnny Cash is still with us... He was in pretty bad shape for a while too.

  • @Aerohog1 Elvis isn't the king to me, he's merely the posterboy.

  • Johnny Cash does this song rather well. Good going on the Kris Kristofferson tune, Johnny!

  • @Aerohog1 'Sold his soul', how ridiculous, what a handy meaningless throw away cliché. Elvis took drugs, womanised and stuff but with the talent he possessed he didn't need to sell anything. It's amazing the amount of bullshit jealous people like you come up with in an effort to discredit him. Record sales, and world wide adulation from all walks of life speak for themselves.

  • @hirdy6 You are right. My apologies. He had so much money and blind admiration he was content to play a parody of himself to fans who were so starstruck they didn't care and would throw money his way no matter what he did or how he performed. Mea culpa. As I said-what a waste and loss of talent.

  • @Aerohog1 Sadly a fair amount of truth in that, better than the 'sold his soul' bullshit you came out with earlier. Don't know about him being content but drugs played a huge part.

  • @Aerohog1 I don't think he "sold his soul" to the media. It was the result of being an American icon and having people around him that used and abused him. Your comment is a tad offensive to Elvis Presley fans, so I would reconsider saying whatever comes to your mind before thinking about how it might affect some people.

  • Johnny Cash was so amazingly talented! RIP Johnny! <3

  • Janis sang this song so well it's hard to hear anyone elso sing it. Thanks again Kris for another great song!!!!

  • Kristofferson WROTE this song , for Janis to sing , as well as many classics for other artists .... Look it up it's deep

  • He looks like "SANDRO"!!!!!!!!! Jajajajajajajajajajaja greetings from Argentina

  • Great song writing from Kristofferson: it describes so much with very few words. I think Mark Knopfler does that too - a masters both!

  • Love the man in black i went and saw him i was 15 and I loved it MIss the man in black

  • just to clarify, it isn't a Kris Kristofferson song (though I'm certain Kristofferson has covered it before), but a Janis Joplin song.

    Good song.

  • @Yeshman5478 janis joplin was dating kristofferson when she covered his song... he's the original writer.

  • @Yeshman5478 To clarify it IS a song written by Kristofferson, he recorded it long before Janis did. He told her he wanted her to sing it. Know your "facts" before stating them.

  • I agree!

  • toller Song von Jonny!

  • One of my favourite songs of all time. 'Freedom's just another word for nothin' left to lose' is one of the best lines of song, poetry or philosophy I have ever encountered, and one day I will live it.

  • One must be careful wishing for things. the follow up line to the one you mention is "nothin ain't worth nothin but its free".Do you really want to be left alone with nothing.? Sounds like a lonely existence. Your comments are true, the song is a thing of beauty that should be reflected upon studied and enjoyed.

  • I LOZVE JOHNNY CASH!

  • What video concert is this?? THANKS!!!

  • @saverasA hi, the symbol on the left side is from a german tv station. it is after 1990. there are more clips on you tube from this show but i never found out more

  • @Waellerwutz I was able to purchase the entire show through the german television station and download it from them... Its a great show!!

  • i saw him do this live when he was younger and it was way better waylon does a hell a job on this one too

  • This rendition of this song is my favorite. He really did justice to this masterpiece!!!

  • Johnny war der beste Countrysänger!

  • the best was by Janis

  • I agree. Janis had something to make this song her own.

  • The best version , my favourite of this song!

  • Almost as good as Kristofferson.

  • I got a similar version, very closed. PM me and I can send it to you.

  • the best version for me!

  • this is great but while i love it, i first heard this song at a much slower tempo recored by the grateful dead, and that remains my favourite version

  • The bass is too busy. Need to keep it simple, keep it country

  • true..true..(?)

  • p.s. The prison version is on UK itunes.

Is this vid the actual Swedish prison show? Looks more like IKEA to me. This version has a bit more zip than the audio recording- all the better for it.

  • This clipp is not from Österåker!! If that was what you asked...

  • Yeah, didn't think it looked like a jail!

Is this version available anywhere as an audio file?

    thanks

  • I don't think so, but it's easy to fix! no problem

  • Absolutely the best version. Makes the song his own.

  • I like how each artist who sings it puts their own twist on it and changes the words. I still prefer Janis's version but... this one is also great.

  • My absolute favourite version of this amazing song!

  • It is my favorite version of this song too. I've heard many versions of this song but they'll never be able to beat Johnny's version.

  • johnny cash can sing just about anything. love the song best when janis did it but johnny comes in second to me.

  • the best !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • "Feelin' good was easy, while Bobby sang the blues/Feelin' good was good enough for me, for me and Bobby McGee..."

I like the melody and the simplicity of this song. Greetings from Belgium (where we like good music).

  • I wish I could this on itunes,I really enjoy listening to johnny.

  • In Ihrem MDR-Fernsehen...

  • This version is more upbeat from the versiona t the Live from Denmark one. It sounds the the version from the Pa Osteraker album. I enjjoy this version better.

  • Hey i got a question. When does the Pa Osteraker album come out in america?

  • Osteraker is in Sweden by the way.

  • at around 1:27 it looks like he forgot the song but its still a good

  • So glad with all the Johnny Cash clips on Youtube.

So many things i have never seen before...

And that for a die hard.

  • Powerfull song!! Wonder why I never heard it before...

    Horray for "Oeffentlich-Rechtliches Fernsehen" ;-)

    Thx for sharing!
