  • great song, could listen to this all day

  • Crap digrace to real Irish music

  • @intergalacticghost No, give the Englishman credit. He nailed the loss and sadness of the Irish diaspora. I've knelt at the grave of my late wife and said a lot of Hail Mary's over the years. You don't have to be Irish to feel the sorrow in the lyric.

  • God bless The Pogues and all the music they've given us throughout the years.

  • better belly to burst than liquor be lost. --Jonathan Swift

  • Talent Irish style, has influenced even America's old Country songs (not the new Country).

  • shane mcgowan a music legend and id fkin love to get pissed with him

  • Powerful!!!!! Very nice rendition... Good on ya, Shane!

  • The BEST version EVER.

  • If you will bend and tell me that you love me I will forgive your alphabet spaghetti.

  • hey Zombie fuck off you mother fucker OK go kiss your ass yeah man ! when hi said Shaine R.I.P. was when the pogues end Ok !!!! go to your litlle world and stay there sucker FUCK OFF !!!

STUPID KID GO LISTEN JUSTIN BIEBER.... AND BO YOURSELF A FAVOR PICE OFF SUCKER..........

  • GOD BLESS YOU SHANE R.I.P. for thoose who don't like his songs F..U.C.K. O.F.F..

  • @69fastfurious Shane isn't dead you fuckin' twat... Póg mo thói! *exposes middle finger to your sober face*

  • @ZombieDeathRace HELLO SUCKER ARE YOU HAPPY !!! HOPE QHERE YOU LIVE YOU GET BETTER SONGS.. GO FUCK YOURSELF AND KEE YOUR MONEY SUCKER.....

  • @69fastfurious O_o I have no idea what you said to me... I don't speak Special Olympics, sorry. I might fuck off, but the only mother I'll be fucking is yours. Or maybe I'll buy you a couple of real drinks instead of those fluffy fucking wine coolers you drink... that way you won't feel bad when a simple minded Pogues lover like me fuck starts you head. Fucking asshat.

  • @69fastfurious He's still alive.

  • funny now that he used to get chased out of bars for his renditions of old irish songs

  • i dont like this version of it, his other version is better, the guy strumming his gutar is annoying as hell i cant even hear him sing

  • i dont like this version of it, his other version is better, shanes not meant to be singing slow like this

  • and I gotta wonder... who the fuck the people were who disliked this?? I'll meet you at the gates of hell, you bastards..

  • @BmoreBusker Korrekt!!!

  • My life finally feels complete... that box set of unreleased stuff made me tingle. Goosebumps all up and down. I remember only finding this as a bootleg on a copied tape cassette. And hearing this in good quality is so, so nice. Sweet.

  • I honestly think he was both a better singer and songwritter the younger he was. You simply can't maintain a level of activity whilst drinking that much. A brain can only take so much dehdyration. YOU ASSHOLE SHANE is awesome and other such romanticizations commence.

  • one of the most beautiful songs ive ever heard

  • Brought tears to my eyes! Beautiful

  • Holy crap what an amazing version of this song. Freakin' brilliant!!

  • Beautiful version... Pogues, Shane and Free Ireland forever. Erin Go Bragh!

  • To all the youtube posters who have taken the time to make these videos, thank you so much for giving me a glimpse of the land and voice of my ancestors. They came to America many, many years ago, but I can see the faces of my family when I look at the Pogues or the crowd or the Dubliners. Again, Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

  • I think the guitar player needs a shout out, man keeping that strum going for so long, not as easy as it may seem. Danny Boy was my uncle, not many people know about that so don't be forgetting.

  • @quinnandzach1 the song was written in 1913 to the tune of Londonderry Air. Your uncle? How old are you lad? lol

  • Pogues Forever - it doesn't get any better

  • this song and version gets me emotional

  • i got shivers.. plain and simple. i need a shot of whiskey to chase off that weird teary feelin

  • SHANE IS THE REAL FUCKIN POPE!

  • Love it

  • Powerful performance, well done lads.....

  • Shane! I love ya babe!

  • Breaks my flinty, stony, hate filled heart. Shane reclaims this song with this version.

  • I saw an A capella version of Shane singing "Danny Boy" on "Much Music" in the early 80's that absolutely BLEW ME AWAY!! Yeah, he was shitfaced drunk as always, but just him weaving around and singiing in this bar COMPLETELY UNACCOMPANIED!! It was by FAR the best version I have ever heard!!!!! Does ANYONE know of that video and where it can be found?? I have looked for over 10 years....thanks!

  • This is gorgeous.

  • One of the most enchanting versions of Danny Boy I've ever heard. Shane knows how to get the atmosphere of a song like no other on this planet.

  • I am speachless, beatiful

  • effin great!best version Shane has done hope to see u at OReillys in SF soon Slainte!

  • i forgotten he sounds drunken lol funny

  • @1skin2skin you're aware there is a strong possibility that he was right?

  • Erin Go Braugh

  • @eerawb The phrase is Eire' go brah!

  • @solariis888 both wrong it's erin go bragh

  • @lumberjack1475 Erin is the Anglecized version. Its Eire go brah

  • @solariis888 is not. Erin is the genitive. And you write it "bragh". "Brah" IS anglicizing it, coz that's the pronounciation. and anyway the IRA said "erin go bragh" and although they got many things wrong, they wouldn't get that wrong

  • @lumberjack1475 I'm telling you its not Erin, it is Eire, as in the Goddess Eriu for which the Island was named, she was one of the Tuatha De Dannan et lorium en Tara.

  • I think Cait is trying to give Shane rabies.

  • @CarolinaOcelot wouldn't blame her after she left when he threw a speaker at her onstage!

  • This year is the 100th anniversary of Danny Boy! Written by Frederick Weatherly in 1910

  • Gotta love Shane Macgowan. LOng live Shane Macgowan!

  • Best interpretation I've ever heard. I luv it!

  • an irish woman wrote it when she wrote it n,ireland wasnt in the land it was just ireland and a few english skanks!!! pure irish

  • @PetroThrower May Shane McGowan bless whichever god you worship ;-)

  • Any bullshit on this video and you shall be gut as a deer would, one of the only video's on youtube that should be respected as your own mother would be (wouldn't go n start a fight in front of your mama's house would ya?)

  • @yaknowurright exactly

  • one of the best things ever. period.

  • Brilliant. Nothing more to say. Just Briliant.

  • theres a good chance your northern irish or scotish

  • could be English or Irish, the Kennedy's are a huge clan

  • learn to speak english pikey

  • The Kennedy s also had a castle in Southern Scotland

  • Superb!

In California feels like home when I hear this stuff!

  • shane's london Irish like me and the lyrics were written by an Englishman but the tune is an old Irish tune.

  • dogstar uve got issuses lol

  • Yeah this song was written by an English man. But Shane was born in England when his parents were visiting relatives at Christmas. He spent most of his young life in Tipperary. Then they immigrated to England, like alot at that time.

  • this is just a riveting performance...amazing....

  • im a platic paddie from america! and i love this song! u got it!

  • Amazing , this song is perfect , bravo Shane

  • Tremendous; many thanks for posting this remarkable version. Proud to be part-Irish!

  • beautiful song

  • Outfuckingstanding...

    Cheers!

    *****

  • Shane is one of the best vocalists ever. On ballads, he is simply without equal: depth of emotion, tenderness, pain and beautifully heartbreaking.

  • @rick89gts not to mention his balls and ferocity on more upbeat and punk-ish songs. incredible singer.

  • Fucking brilliant.

  • Wow. So many times this song is done in such a mincing, sentimental way, but this is a really powerful, emotional version of a familiar classic. Leave it to Shane to do the unexpected and produce something genius.

  • I honour this chanter. He can drink to extremes, yet still produce a fantastic performance.

A middle finger to the snobs and good living morally righteous majority among us. Fuck you all, Shane is the man.

  • fluffy hole

  • Go on ya boy ya

    Held her Flat

  • i love this song

  • wow great great grrrreat version song..awesome!

  • ciao shane........il migliore....

  • Agree.......absolutely beautiful.....

  • I don't think anyone could do this song better than The Pogues. What a great combination. Thanks.

  • Only Sinead's live version from the Late Late Show is better.

  • You're right. Hers is awesome too.

  • Muppets did;)

  • THANKYOU.....I have been searching for this particular version by the Pogues. My husband has especially requested it........It was worth the hunt!

  • Me too, ever grateful...A friend of mine died in the morning yesterday and I`ll do the crying listening ( and singing ) this one..THANKS !!

  • no bother to shane to stamp his mark on a song!!

  • very nice.

    Thx.

  • this version is really touching, I love The Pogues and I love 'Danny Boy' - what a combination, thx for sharing

  • never heard the pogues doing DB before.

have got shane and the popes doing a more uptempo version of it, as an extra track on his christmas EP thing, but wasnt aware the pogues had done a version.

where did you find this? is there a BBC pogues sessions CD available out there?

  • I got it from their new boxset "Just look them in the eye and say Pogue Mahone!", which has quite a few radio session tracks spread across the 5 discs. There's not a specific radio session disc I don't think

  • @thebluetommohawk This was just unbelievably awesome! Long Live Shane and his wonderful voice
