I understand this song is about Sikhs, but only a third of Punjabis are Sikhs. The majority of Punjabis are Muslims and some are Hindus. By the way, Sheikh Fareed, Guru Nanak, Baba Bulleh Shah, etc were not Sikhs and yet they have turbans.
