Ok ..... So ummm i tried doing this as a practice before valentine comes up and umm...... When i dipped the ballon into the chocolate it exploded on me !!! Then i had to clean the whole kitchen up cus then my mom wouldve yelled at me for being a mess T-T
Chocolate cups you say? Tiny ballons, put them in chocolate set them on a tray to dry, BOOM BOOM! pop them suckers. Walla, chocolate cups ghetto style. Dont forget your ice cream.
Great video and nice technique, worked for me, but one question, did you get holes at the bottom when you take the baloon out? how should i avoid this?
couldn't you just VERY LIGHTLY rub a super thin layer of something with some slip to it, not like cooking spray... but like butter so that it gives but won't slick the chocolate off?
I tried this. Apparently we didnt have the right chocolate, and it was wayy too thin even after a second coat. On top of that i just gave up on trying to get the baloon out. It was more like chocolate on a balloon than a chocolate cup... :/
Mine stick because the consistency wasn't right, I should've done one balloon after the other so I wouldn't have wasted choco... although I still ate it, it would've been a success...
TiP! for first timers, ONE CUP at a time till you get the right consistency, and so taking the balloon off will be easier.
If it looks dry, I recommend adding shortening. it'll smooth it, and let it melt a bit longer.
I was totally experimenting mine. The mousse went out better than the balloons.
Sorry for the late reply, you need to temper your chocolate, make sure it is at 86 to 90 degrees before you dip the balloon.
AND please please make sure you stir it allot, biggest mistake I seam to make every time is I don't have my temp balanced, and my chocolate comes out looking like dried mud.
Awesome technique! My daughter's birthday is coming up next week and I've been looking for something special to do for her. I think I'll give this a whirl! I love your videos, too. They're like a cult film or something similar. I do want to add a word of warning, though. Please let your viewers know that they shouldn't make these unless they're positive the people eating them are not allergic to latex, unless they're lucky enough to find latex-free balloons.
before i dip the balloon into the yummy chocolate, is it ok to spray the balloon with PAM? like a spray oil? <--or wipe a part of the balloon with (olive) Oil with a paper towel???
@EverythingEmory12 if the balloons stick it's usually because you didn't temper the chocolate, didn't let them cool long enough ( try 15-20 minutes ) or you have the wrong balloon type, try water balloons ( don't fill with water though ! ) good luck !
@thechocolateaddict i think i did use the wrong balloons. is nestle toll house chocolate chips ok? i kept them in the fridge for like 1 or 1 1/2 hours! and they started to melt when i tried to take the balloon out. i moght make a video reponse so you can see if im doing something wrong! should i?
@EverythingEmory12 chocolate chips are not good, you need a good quality gourmet chocolate, chocolate chips don't harden... you should probably use candy melts from Michaels Crafts, because gourmet chocolate needs to be tempered first ( look up my video on tempering chocolate ). Wilton's candy melts don't have to be tempered, they are very easy to use, but they don't taste as good. Also try to find water balloons. ;)
@EverythingEmory12 I think its cause you didn't temper the chocolate properly, using marble surface, or other coll surface. Or you didn't let it dry enough. But it's more likely you didn't temper...
I remember seeing Marcel Desaulniers do that on an old TV show called "Death By Chocolate" that came on TLC back in the mid 90's! He filled his cups with white & milk chocolate mousses.
dam i wish I came here first! For christmas me and mum thought we would make chocolate cups with mousse in them with some decoration, turns out our way was a little harder. We bought plastic cups and filled the inside with chocolate,to get them out we had to put warm water on the outside of the cup hahahah, they didn't look as pretty as yours
So the KEY is the BALLOONS and the tempered chocolate at the right temp ... I tired making it for a pary, and almost had success. The balloons were sticking to the chocolate even after popping them.... Trying better quality balloons would help... GOOD IDEA BUT requires some finesse.....
What type of chocolate do you use? I've tried several types for tempering and I can't seem to find the right product. I know you can use the chocolate flavored candy stuff but I'd prefer real chocolate.
Good idea...I' ll try to do it !! Grazie
