Yes, BoBIi models the carburettor stall in the ROlls Merlin beautifully and you can use it to your advantage if you want to bleed off speed suddenly with a bunt to keep yourself behind the enemy.

@AntoniusMUC Players who like BOBII usually like it for 4 things (AI, number of aircraft in the sky, realism and the campaign). For realism, the cockpits are all clickable to enable the player full control over engine, prop etc and instrument flying. Weather can be random, or based on the exact weather reports from the appropriate day in 1940. Flyable planes: Bf109e, Bf110C4, Stuka, Spit I and II, Hurri I and II, Tiger Moth. Guns mannable on Ju88, He111 and Do17. Non flyable Defiant, Blenheim.

@robi4never Yes you need a joystick to play easily. Any joystick will do, but one with force feedback and programmable buttons is best.

@robi4never Probably he was coming out of a dive, so his energy was high. In this sim the flight models are very high fidelity, and were reality checked by a real BoB pilot, Wing Commander Tim Elkington.

@suckingcat11 I think both are great. BoBII gives you deep immersion in the Battle of Britain, the best AI combat offline, and the best campaign in a WWII sim. IL2 gives you dozens more aircraft types, varied theatres from Europe to the Pacific and the best online flying.

From all reports Cliffs of Dover will be a fantastic sim, but there are some areas where it will not match BOBII WoV, at least when it is released. Cliffs of Dover is not able to simulate massive dogfights, as seen in this video with BOBII, also it will not have a dynamic campaign. The map does not extend North of London (question of whether a major airfield like Duxford is even featured in Cliffs of Dover)

@lordnipple Hi, yes there is a peer-peer online mode. This means several players can join an online dogfight (various modes) as long as one player 'hosts' the game. Unlike IL2 or WoP for consoles, there are no dedicated servers for multiplayer. There is no doubt that IL2 is the superior platform for online play.

@rarst34 Not is this sim, unless you manually edit the skins. I'm not aware of a mod which will do it easily. I gather the developers were apolitical, and concerned only with realism of both gameplay and aircraft paint schemes. Wings of Prey is a sim which allows you to turn nazi symbols on or off.

I have actually been enjoying IL2 4.09 new stuff all this week. It's a good time to have both sims on your drive! But the AI does often amaze IL2 flyers who are used to watching their opponents barrel rolling or zoom climbing every time. BOB2 AI is dynamic, changes according to the tactical environment, and is individualised according to AI pilot skill and aircraft type without pulling any manouvres a human pilot couldn't. The AI is even randomly programmed to make dumb moves too!

If you mean what specs are needed for BOBII, latest update, they are pretty forgiving. A machine with 2 year old core II duo 2.8Ghz and 512MB video card will be able to max most settings and in battles like this with hundreds of aircraft framerates will still be playable. The only real framerate killer in the new update is the forest mod, which nneds a core II 3Ghz with 2Gig or more. But forest is an option and switched off, on or just thinned out to suit your processor.
