how did you teach him to jump and to fetch. my little Green Cheek is a pretty quick learner once he realizes what i want him to do, the problem is conveying what i'm asking.
I used safflower seeds, which are his favor treat. our Conures are quick learners, and so smart. Use your conures favorite treat to lure him to do something.when he does it right, tell him "good job" and clap, that's what we do. =) If he doesn't do the trick, don't give him a treat. If your conure loves sunflower seeds, give that as a treat (minus the shell, but break the seed in 1/2, so he can eat it faster). I wish I had more info for you - sure hope I answered your question.
How did you learn to teach your conure so many tricks? I'm considering getting a green cheek for the first time, & would love to learn to teach him tricks. Did you use an instructional book, or video? And if so what is the name or website I can visit?
I taught the tricks all on my own. He was super quick to learn. If you get a green cheek, he/she will learn quickly too... such smart little birds. I just enticed my conure with safflower seeds. (his favorite treat). I would hold it in my hand and go around him for the "turn around" trick. I start out slow, not using my voice. Every time he did it right, I'd praise him with "good job", and give him a treat. They LOVE knowing they did good, so enthusiasm from you is needed. = )
i tried training my green cheek to do these things, even with the treat technique, but it seems that when i tell him to do something, he wont do it, but he will do somersaults when i dont tell him to
I have an 18 yr old maroon belly that I am now totally convinced is a diva! Sam has never done any tricks, she's always too busy demanding 45 minute headscratches from me and my husband lol. I can't help but sit and cuddle her so I've never had the patience to do what you have with your little birdling. I can't believe how responsive your bird is to you and your cues. Don't ever be without a bird, because I have worked with and been raised with birds my whole life and you are a freakin natural!
parrots are so smart - he was easy to train. you just gotta have the right treat... safflower seeds in this video. With the "turn around" trick, I would take the seed and go around him, and he'd follow it. I'd use the voice command "turn around", after awhile.... soon, I didnt even need to say it, or show him the treat. I'd just make the motion with my finger, and he'd, turn around.
oh how cute. My greencheek does all kinds of tricks, but man he is stubborn when it comes to the fetch one. He'd rather bite me than fetch a bell! haha. I raised him right.
So cute and smart :-)

Good job training & bonding with your bird. He is having fun while interacting with you. That's the whole secret, I think.

@wildshots4u
u say: "tell him "good job" and clap" do you mean clap once like a clicker or clap multiple times like an applause? Thanks already :)

Are you feeding him sunflower seeds as treats? I'm trying to train my green cheek, but the treats I give her take a while for her to eat.
coolchicken007 2 years ago
the treats I give are usually safflower seeds. He eats them up pretty quick...
I will use sunflower seeds too, but only if they are not shelled. I also will break the sunflower seeds in half. Much faster that way. = )

In this video I was using safflower seeds. Another good treat is sunflower seeds, out of the shell. Break them in 1/2...
