Poor guy never realized that the King wasn't being cruel to him at all. He could have been a hero helping on the battlefield and everyone isn't meant to be a soldier. I know I would suck as one. Xerxes made him no more than a court jester.

Leonidas could have avoided the whole thing if he just put Ephialtes in battle, but at the END of a line, so he didn't have any soldier to his right to protect with his shield. Oh well! The actual Ephialtes wasn't a hunchback anyway; the writers made that part up (as well as his reason for betraying the Spartans). He was just a jerk!
