I've never really understood why a 5 minute mile is impressive. I've never been big or running and I broke the 5 minute mile after a 2 year period of never running further than a few yards. I kept fit in other ways, but not enough for significance of running a mile in 5 minutes to count for anything.

Wow, I'm actually a bit discouraged. I'm not fat, but I usually run 10 minutes miles. Forr the last week I've been running and now I run 8:00 miles. But seeing this, and how everyone says it's not a big deal, makes me pretty :/
wel dun man:) gr8 runnin! wer did yh come in dat race..? im doin da mile dis year on da track,, n im hopin for a 4m 30 one.. ive never run it b4 bt i got 4m 26 in 1500m last year so hopfuly..L: im after doin a 5m 02 mile bout a month ago so ive still 32 secs to go in 2mnths:P jeese all i cn say is 7m 30 dwn to 4m 58 i SERIOUS shtuff.. :)
ok i no you say you didnt mean to brag but putting up a video "freshman breaking 5 minutes in the mile" shows that you thought it wass pretty impressive .. or you would have put the meet name instead.. i think you meant it to show off but then realized your not that good and are now saying you didnt mean to brag
@GtrHero121 it's interesting to others to see a personal make a PB, regardless of whether it's that far along the road comapred to the top times. I enjoyed seeing someone making this milestone.. hope you move further!
@kupokid1358 hahahahaha!!!! its funny, u act like everyone cares about your time. stop bashin the dude unless u wanna get bashed which judging by past comments has already happend multiple times. you are pathetic.... he had a decent time for a freshman so hop off
@texasidiot47 I ran 5:17 my freshmen year, my p.r. is 4:45. I would have loved to run sub 5 as a freshman, it is a great feat but its no super uncommon.
nice, i was 10 seconds behind you at the end of my freshman year. Track hasn't started yet (i'm a sophomore) so i'm hoping to break 5 in indoor season.
I just started winter track and my mile is about 5:20, by the end of winterr i want to sub 5, anyone think it's possible? Also people need to chill 4:58 is mad good
Hey man looks good, you ran a 4:58 in this vid, and that's what I want to get by the end of my freshman track season, what kind of time did you have when the season started?
I was running 7:30 when i started off of no training. By the end of indoors I was running 5:20 and when I ran this it was somewhere around mid-outdoors. Good luck!
why is everyone saying they can break this 5.min like no big deal come on plz my best mile time is 5:40 mins and i'm still trying to get rid of those 40secs it's not easy but with more training i can break it so don't say it's no big deal cause i bet u can't even break a 7 min mile ahaha
@sharingan5123 Thats a lie, cause that means he would have to run like a 4:50 every mile, you cant run 3 4;50 miles, and have a 1 mile pr at 4;45..........
@29brandon93 ok genius lol listen to urself his best mile run was at woodward park which is one of the hardest obstacles in california when he pass the first mile was at 4:45 then he had 2.3 miles to go and i made i mistake in the time it was actually 16:47 i hope that makes sense for u ;p
@sharingan5123 LMAO, it was still your mistake... and who runs a mile in a obstacle park, its called a Track... BTW for XC its 3.1 miles not 3.3,... GENIOUS!!!!!!!
@29brandon93 i guess u still haven't realese running up hills is way tougher then running on flat surface but just in case let me give u his time for running on track surface 4:41 secs
I would bet money that half of the kids that are commenting on this saying that it's no "big deal" are probably running my first milesplit for a 5k as their fastest mile, which isn't impressive. Good job on breaking 5.
To the kid who said the "Most successful highschool in cross country" only had one guy go off to college ever is an idiot. Just saying.
wow seriously? whats wrong with all of you people...does he have to run a 3:50 mile just so you won't bash him and call yourself better than him? seriously chill out people, breaking 5 ANYTIME DURING YOUR LIFE is a great accomplishment no matter what you say.
when i was in 9th grade i started track with no experience and ran a 5:30 at the end of it and ran a 2:30 for the 800m and i didn't even wear any spikes no i'm a sophmore and looking at a 4:25 for the 1600 this year and i can run a sub 5 min in my trainers
Wow, you are all dicks. Just because you can run sub 4:30 or something doesn't mean you can put someone down for running slower than you. Honestly, modesty is much more respectable than spouting your PRs at every given opportunity.
Right now I'm around 4:50 and I'm also a frosh and havent started track yet. Sub five is actually way easier then it sounds or looks, so its not that big of a deal.
Good job breaking 5 minutes! It's always good to see runners meet their goals. And it looked like you were running a pretty smart race. I'm a freshman, and last year I ran 4:24 for the 1500. I'm not sure what my 1600 time would be, I would estimate around 4:40. I want to get around 4:30 or below this track season.
Hello, it was a exciting video, I enjoyed it. Can you tell me how you added the music plus the written information in it...Thanks from Rudyjustice@aol.com
i don't care if you are 8 and break 5. You aren't going to make it to college. As for all of the freshman that can run sub-5, they won't do crap after high school. For example: York high school in Elmhurst,IL = Best High school in cross country ever.. the only person there to do anything is Donald Sage. Other wise they all die out during high school.
dude....., im sorry but im not a freshman till next year and i get a 4:55, its hard ya but not a huge thing, put up a vid when you break 4 or break like 1:58 in the 800m
Don't listen to anyone saying that breaking five as a freshman isn't good. It is very good, in this sport no matter how good you get there will almost always be someone better than you so breaking 5 isn't amazing but it's still very good. My best freshman time was 4:49, and you took out to fast my split for the 800 was 2:30, which means my second 800 was 2:19, I have a pretty good kick :)
No, that is freaking fast for a freshman and a great accomplishment. I am a sophmore and I used to be fat then I got in shape and ran all this year. I finished this track season off with a 5:40 and I want to be sub 15 by end of summer so give me some tips!
yea i just ran my first sub 5 this month i ran a 4:55 freshman but my 800 meters is 2:16 and I havent ran in a 2 mile race for a while and i ran a 11:23 not good
you gotta give him credit some people spend there whole high school years trying to break five im in 7th grade and ran about a 5:25 goin for sub 5 next year
@superchunk1234 hey good job man. i ran that exact same time for my first year in track in 8th grade.it was at my very first meet.than at county's a month later, i ran a 4:29. ide like to see you race my brother.he runs a 4:38 and he is also in 8th grade!!!
one of my teammates whos in 8th grade ran a 4:55 the other day, i mean its not that much of an accomplishment, but i still havent done it yet so i cant talk :o
im in 9th grade now, i run a 5 minute mile after i ran a 7 minute last year, the mile inst even my strongest event, i ran a 5 mile race in under a 6 minute pace
im in the 7th grade and today im attempiting to break 5 at our city meet. I think i can do it cause last week i ran a 5:08.41 in rainy conditions with puddles on the track. nice job for breaking five. wish me luck today
im a freshman that can run sub 5 as well, but im not saying thats not an accomplishment for your age, because it is, 5 is a big barrier for a lot of 8th and 9th graders myself included
to break 5 minutes can be a big deal you and 2 or three other teammates are competing for it. Such as my situation was. It was like getting into an exclusive club before I ran it but after it wasn't really as great as I was expecting to be.
@jendoytoy no im serious hes in the avocado league in so cal and as a freshman 4:11. idk how he did it either im a junior and i just hit 4:50 bu ive only done track 2 yrs
@MrDistanceRunner It is a big deal if you haven't done it before. I started running this year and I run a 5:23 and don't say its slow because in 7th grade my mile was 12 minutes so I think its fast
@MrDistanceRunner yea but i bet u there will be kids who didnt break 5 their 8th grade that will probably beat your ass your senior. i ran 4:58 as a freshman and another kid from a different team ran 4:42 his freshman year and only ran 4:39 this year and i ended up running 4:41 so peaking early doesnt mean youll be the best later on
@ussoldiersm316 wait... wat school does this kid go to? this sounds a hell of a lot like a kid i know who did the same thing... ran 4:39 sophomore spring track but hasnt hit that since then and hes gonna be a senior this year too
@MrDistanceRunner and even breaking 5 mins at 8th grade isn't that hot, as you know if you compete.. This is just a progress video of someone achieving a personal best time, nothing more.
Cool Video GtrHero121. 5 minutes while not being amazing is still an awesome accomplishment and far better than the majority will ever run. Congrats :)
Nice job dude last year when I was a freshman my first mile was a 4:40. I was so pumped that I broke 5 I know the feeling. I'm a sophomore now and better, I hope to break 4:20.
The last time I ran the mile ever in track I broke 5 and I ran 4:58 also, i tell you I was so excited when I did it too bad that was also two years ago:( props to you dude!
cool. i think i remember racing u guys fr a cross country invite a couple months ago. I go to palatine, but u guys are pretty good; same as nequia valley. good luck
jack feldman if im not mistaken(my friend mickhale is like best friends with you so he's talked about you and i remmber seeing you at hornet/red devil and regionals). job well done for you. though this was my first year ever of running(played football last year) my fastest mile was a 5:29 in our dgs meet at KLM. maybe ill be catching on to you next year during the season at hornet red devil and work with each other tagging guys haha. good luck, and great job
I belive him. Getting under 5 minutes is really common where I live. I'm a 7th grade girl and my best mile is 5:49. I know a lot of guys in MIDDLE school who can get under 5.
im a freshman too this year, but i still have the whole winter to train, i havent ran a timed mile since track in eighth grade, which was about a half year ago, my best time back then was 5:15. nice job though.
yo my man whats ya cardio training.....im 17, 6"2 and weigh 240......im currently running a solid 7 min mile...my goal is to get to a 6 and under mile
dude thats good. keep it up. 5:47 wow thats amazing. im 17yrs old, almost 18, im 6'1'' and i run a mile in about 8min flat. im 220lbs! today i just finished my first mile non stop, i cant believe how much i've improved in just running a mile 5 times.
well i ran a 5:02 girl. and im in 8th grade? haha(:

dude....., im sorry but im not a freshman till next year and i get a 4:55, its hard ya but not a huge thing, put up a vid when you break 4 or break like 1:58 in the 800m
TheSandlotFights 1 year ago
Don't listen to anyone saying that breaking five as a freshman isn't good. It is very good, in this sport no matter how good you get there will almost always be someone better than you so breaking 5 isn't amazing but it's still very good. My best freshman time was 4:49, and you took out to fast my split for the 800 was 2:30, which means my second 800 was 2:19, I have a pretty good kick :)
devinrocks11 1 year ago
No, that is freaking fast for a freshman and a great accomplishment. I am a sophmore and I used to be fat then I got in shape and ran all this year. I finished this track season off with a 5:40 and I want to be sub 15 by end of summer so give me some tips!
historybamf 1 year ago
yea i just ran my first sub 5 this month i ran a 4:55 freshman but my 800 meters is 2:16 and I havent ran in a 2 mile race for a while and i ran a 11:23 not good
cooldogcool51 1 year ago
you gotta give him credit some people spend there whole high school years trying to break five im in 7th grade and ran about a 5:25 goin for sub 5 next year
lilrobez19 1 year ago
Noe lie.. Most recruited 8th grader(along with my friend which runs a 4:39) in southern California

Ooo woow breaking 5 as a freshman?!??! You cAn't run for shit! I'm in 8 th grade I run 4:40!
superchunk1234 1 year ago
@superchunk1234 your name?
MrDistanceRunner 1 year ago
@superchunk1234 hey good job man. i ran that exact same time for my first year in track in 8th grade.it was at my very first meet.than at county's a month later, i ran a 4:29. ide like to see you race my brother.he runs a 4:38 and he is also in 8th grade!!!
SILVERBULLETS94 1 year ago
still fast as balls, and a plenty good start. You have 3 more years to train, and then college
jobuXC 1 year ago
one of my teammates whos in 8th grade ran a 4:55 the other day, i mean its not that much of an accomplishment, but i still havent done it yet so i cant talk :o
i'm also in 8th grade and i run a 5:06
tquasa 1 year ago
im in 9th grade now, i run a 5 minute mile after i ran a 7 minute last year, the mile inst even my strongest event, i ran a 5 mile race in under a 6 minute pace
uconnfanNumber1 1 year ago
im in the 7th grade and today im attempiting to break 5 at our city meet. I think i can do it cause last week i ran a 5:08.41 in rainy conditions with puddles on the track. nice job for breaking five. wish me luck today
MenInBlack5122 1 year ago
im a freshman that can run sub 5 as well, but im not saying thats not an accomplishment for your age, because it is, 5 is a big barrier for a lot of 8th and 9th graders myself included
arrourasanti2 1 year ago
A sub-5 Minute Mile is good for a freshman, most kids don't even get close to a five
ImperialBlueFire 1 year ago
So your splits were 69, 75, 72, and 82? Nice job, but you need to work on pacing yourself.
Mstew354 1 year ago 2
to break 5 minutes can be a big deal you and 2 or three other teammates are competing for it. Such as my situation was. It was like getting into an exclusive club before I ran it but after it wasn't really as great as I was expecting to be.
TheJslickster 1 year ago
im a freshmen that runnes a 440

wtfthisistheonlyuser 10 months ago
@MrDistanceRunner It is a big deal if you haven't done it before. I started running this year and I run a 5:23 and don't say its slow because in 7th grade my mile was 12 minutes so I think its fast
ortboys 1 year ago
@ortboys It's a big deal to you but it's not a big deal to us is what I mean...
MrDistanceRunner 1 year ago
@MrDistanceRunner Ok I see you're really good though at the rate your going you could break 4!
ortboys 1 year ago
@MrDistanceRunner why do u even need to comment? just to act cool?
ThePenguinTutorials 1 year ago
@MrDistanceRunner yea but i bet u there will be kids who didnt break 5 their 8th grade that will probably beat your ass your senior. i ran 4:58 as a freshman and another kid from a different team ran 4:42 his freshman year and only ran 4:39 this year and i ended up running 4:41 so peaking early doesnt mean youll be the best later on
ussoldiersm316 1 year ago
@ussoldiersm316 All I can say is we'll see. Lmao fuck breaking 5, I just broke 4:49
MrDistanceRunner 1 year ago
@ussoldiersm316 wait... wat school does this kid go to? this sounds a hell of a lot like a kid i know who did the same thing... ran 4:39 sophomore spring track but hasnt hit that since then and hes gonna be a senior this year too

@MrDistanceRunner Im pretty sure breaking 5 minutes is a difficult accomplishment to get for anyone.
kestkr 1 year ago
@MrDistanceRunner and even breaking 5 mins at 8th grade isn't that hot, as you know if you compete.. This is just a progress video of someone achieving a personal best time, nothing more.
wayzotoichi 9 months ago
@wayzotoichi Haha I wrote that a while ago man, I've matured! (; I'm down to a 4:38 now!

There has only been 3 American HS runners to ever get sub 4's. I highly doubt he ran a 3 54, maybe 4 54.
captaincool5 2 years ago
I belive him. Getting under 5 minutes is really common where I live. I'm a 7th grade girl and my best mile is 5:49. I know a lot of guys in MIDDLE school who can get under 5.
mymoo135 2 years ago
only 4 highschoolers have broken the 4 minute barrier. I highly doubt your freshman is one of them.
