  • This isn't really fair, it's impossible to say ANYTHING without offending at least ONE Japanese person's ancestors or something.

  • Fat Man and Little Boy saved more lives then it killed PROBLEM....OFF- I mean JAPANESE PEOPLE?

  • Why is everyone getting so worked up about this? They arn't making fun of the man, infact celebrating his long life and escapes from atom bombs.

Also, Japan deserved something as the A bomb was retaliation for their attack on pearl harbour... Be thankful they didn't use a heavy nuclear bomb.

  • @Gazjohnful are you fucking kidding me!? or you are simply retarded?

you actually believe that dropping two atomic bombs over innocent civilians is a fair comeback for an attack over a militar base that wasn't even in the main US territory.

fuck you for justifiying one of the worst crimes ever committed by the human race.

  • @hilliuno I have the right to my opinion... They shouldn't have started it simple as... Im a member of neither country. Plus, your retarded if you think that's the biggest crime the human race has committed... You need to take into account the huge list of species we have wiped of the face of the earth, even the Dodo birds which were completely defenceless animals but yet... oh lets kill them all... Humans, aren't in danger of extinction. Shit even Japan aint sore about it... grow up.

  • @Gazjohnful You're equating killing birds with killing human beings? Actually you're doing worse than that - you're saying it's worse to kill birds. If you hate humanity that much do us all a favor and take yourself out. Animals die because you live. That's a fact. No way around it. If you really value their lives more than yours, kill yourself.

  • @WalterLiddy If you value humans over any other animal your an idiot... were all the same. In response to your last comment... your an actual tool aren't you. Plus, Im a vegetarian, so good fight.

  • @Gazjohnful so if it was the choice between saving a doormouse or saving a human baby what would you do? dont be a fucking idiot.

  • @Gazjohnful When you say vegetarian, does that mean you still eat chicken and fish? I hope not because that just means you're a selective carnivore. Look at our teeth for fucksake, if we were not meant to eat meat surely we'd have a mouth full of molars? Put your hand in a horses mouth and at worst it will break your bones but not tear your skin. Now try it with a tiger and it's a very different story. Why? Because one eats meat!!

  • @homusalonus Erm no, I dont eat fish... and chicken? thats classed as a meat shit for brains, what vegetarian eats chicken? Plus, you might want to do some research into what the molars are for, because the tearing of meat isnt done by molars mr know it all.

  • @Gazjohnful For a start many people call themselves "vegetarian" and continue to eat fish and chicken, technically it's semi- vegetarian, others only eat fish ( pescetarian ) but they are all animals so unless you're vegan SHUT THE FUCK UP! Secondly re-read what I said about teeth you muppet! Molars are used for grinding, inscisors and canines are for gripping and tearing. Hence the simple horse and tiger analagy which you failed to grasp. Get a peice of fish down you, it's great brain food!!!

  • @homusalonus I dont need to re read what you said, as I know what you said. I am a vegetarian... i mentioned nothing about semi.... the only semi here is the one your pitching thinking you know something. You clearly stated about the tearing of the flesh... don't change your point now iv called you out on it. Plus, I have a very high IQ, alot higher than the men around my age... With your choice of language I can see your a teen or a child... So there is no point arguing with inexperience.

  • @Gazjohnful So where was your high IQ on the horse and tiger analagy you doughnut! Also my point has stayed the same throughout, only a fool fails to learn from hindsight. If your IQ is high compared to those around you then you must work/live in a lunatic asylum you window licker! As for my choice of language I only speak English, OH and I was born in 81 so you fail on foresight as well. TATA

  • @homusalonus You need to pull your head out of your arse and read what I am trying to say to you! Born in 81 eh? Highly unlikely as your choice of insults really do represent the mental age of a 14 year old... but, what ever, you can say what you want if it makes you feel better. For the record... your point has changed... you just cant see it where your head has been... even if you were born in 81, its sad your that old and that pathetic... TATA!

  • @Gazjohnful you cant honestly believe that those bombs were justified. thousands of innocent people were slaughtered and people are still dealing with the consequences today. if you honestly think that, you are sick in the head.

if you care that much about animal and human equality, go feed yourself to a lion.

there are plenty of hungry animals, so go and do your part. twat.

  • @e7l13 Read a history book or interview a Jap from that period, who still maintain that they would have continued fighting to the last person.Hundreds of thousands of Allied servicemen would have died needlessly.Better a few thousand japs than a few thousand of our guys.Japan picked a fight they knew they were going to lose and treated their conquered peoples and POWs with utter depravity. So Fuck them, the bomb was too good for them.So dry up your bleeding heart ,you fucking pussy.

  • Years after this happened, you cunts are still having a cry?

Yeah no worries Japan. Keep doing shit and not being accountable at all. Whale in Australian waters, then call all Australians racist when an Australian boat rams yours, which was committing a CRIME in the first place.

Besides, they're being more anti-Britain than anti-Japan, due to suggesting that their own country's public transport is abysmal in comparison.

Fucking sensitive cunts, looking for racism where it is not present.

  • Hilarious that people are getting ass pained about this.

  • Anyone actually notice that it's really just the audience that's excessively laughing?

  • I don't really see anyone laughing at tragedy. They wouldn't be laughing if he died horribly. This must just be the Japanese culture clashing with the British one, the former not understanding the latter.

  • The man who lived.

  • I am honestly astonished that anyone could be even slightly offended by this. Seriously, I have watched this episode loads of times on the TV, but this is the first time I've ever seen it on YouTube and I was actually taken aback by some of the comments. I can only think that some people either do not properly understand English or have something personal against the BBC, the British or one of the people on the video and have searched for the clip with the sole intention of being offended.

  • LOL, I wish could sit through a nuclear blast outside my windoew and coming out ok, not for fame or whatever but for experience... nd he got to do it twice.

Seriously though couldn't stop laughing when Alan said he went to hospital in nagasaki....

  • This is insane, how does it have so many dislikes? Greatest story I have heard in awhile.

  • どこで笑えるのかが分からない。

  • Did that man actually survived 2! Atomic bombs and lived up to 91 years old? o.0

  • that guy is part cockroach.

  • ladies and gentlemen, i would like to apologize for wat you will see below you. people taking offense at a joke that they searched the web to find. people angry and violent over something they forced in front of their eyes. "The Unluckiest Man in the World QI Series 8 Ep 13 Holidays Preview BBC One" those are the tags the chance of having enough of those without knowing wat you are looking for is slim. if you dont like the above video, instead of being a pain, just watch something you like

  • Amazingly, I actually knew about this story before watching this episode of QI

  • @BassaiDai123 no one cares

  • @DrewofAnd Here we go, another YouTube punter who's looking for a fight and can't keep his fucking mouth shut. By all means stop breathing at some point, it'll save the rest of humanity having to put you down, you pathetic little animal.

  • @BassaiDai123 Fight me

  • @DrewofAnd Not only are you dumb enough to argue with me, but now you want to pick a fight? What are you, twelve? Don't be stupid.

  • @BassaiDai123 Fight me now

  • @DrewofAnd Go get some more guys and I might consider it. I'm a cop, you know.

  • @BassaiDai123 You're american, if you pay for the flight over, I will fight you barefoot at heathrow airport

  • @DrewofAnd I'm British, dickhead.

  • @BassaiDai123 No you're not

  • @DrewofAnd Yes, I really am. What possible evidence do you have to the contrary?

  • @BassaiDai123 Don't you know?

  • @DrewofAnd (sigh)

  • It's season H, not season 8.

  • @superguizi The thing is, that's not actually funny.

It would not surprise me if at some point there is a joke on this show about the Rape of Nanking. There have been plenty of jokes about concentration camps. In fact, when this bit began, I was expecting it to be about the couple who managed to be in New York, London, and Bombay all on the days of the terrorist strikes.

  • I'm proud of myself that I not only knew who this guy was, but the city he was from.

  • How is this offensive? The Japanese ambassadors might speak English, but they don't seem to understand it.

  • He was describing the nuking of Hiroshima to his supervisor just as it went off in Nagasaki, he was 3 KM away from each blast.

    Damn.

  • @enigma19833 What offensive content?

  • @Redheadfury from what I read in the British papers (not necessarily my opinion) there were some who found they light hearted approach to the death of so many from Nuclear bombs was offensive...

  • @clairabelle7 Offensive to who? Bad taste perhaps, but it doesn't make fun of anyone nor does it disrespect anyone :S

  • @Redheadfury like I said, I only know what I read, and they wrote it was culturally insensitive to the Japanese, but I don't have all the answers, I was just reading about it online myself.

  • @enigma19833 You douchebag

  • lol people having debates on a qi vid :p get a life and loosen up

  • @louistheonion23

well there is nothing wrong with debating I find aslong as it doesnt result in a flame war im all in too hear other peoples views.

  • If I was the BBC, I would not have apologized to anyone though. Alan Davies could, if he so wished. Apologies that are not meant are a greater insult than the original offense.

These people have the right to express themselves and laugh at other people's misfortunes. That's what passes for comedy. Perhaps they need to watch Kenneth Clark's Civilisation. I remember his segment on Voltaire. That's the sort of wit that England is missing these days. Where are the Daleks when you need them.

  • Everyone here seems to be very concerned with whether the men in hawaiian garb, snickering at "bouncing off a nuke", with a ridiculous pic of this man in between two atomic bombs, were "making fun". Clearly they were.

I'm not against the use of Nuclear Power or weapons, and certainly Imperial Japan was a dangerous menace...but if someone asked me to present this segment, I would pass. The whole thing denotes a lack of class and personal dignity.

  • @shonstar I think if you have seen much of Stephen Fry, you would realise that he goes out of his way not to be rude to anyone, and is a very polite and considerate person. I assure you he would never make fun of someone. Some of the banter may have seemed to make light of the bombing, but most of the humour was focused on discussing "luck" and the efficiency of the Japanese trains.

  • @shonstar Well thats a very nice opinion, but unfortunately you are wrong. They simply weren't making fun of him.

  • @shonstar your personal opinion is wrong then. They aren't mocking the man, they're mocking the circumstances in which he was placed and if you can't see that as a little bit funny then your humour gland must have been surgically removed at some point. If you bothered to listen properly they're all astonished that the Japanese kept the trains working even after a nuclear bomb was dropped on them.

Oh and stop that bollocks about British ever being a elegant culture, that's absolute hogwash....

  • @knowyouronion12 I think that my standards of personal dignity, manners and polite, civil behavior are quite different from those that choose to defend these gentlemen. By my standards--and those are the only ones I care to judge by--they were rude.

On the other hand, I strongly disagree with the message that Mr. Yamaguchi and his family have promoted in regards to nuclear weapons, etc. It's not nuclear power that caused these atrocities in WW2--it was Japanese fascism.

  • @seandanconia AHAHAHAHA

"How dare people make fun of this poor man, oh and it was Japans fault the US committed Mass Murder"

You are hilariously stupid sir. Thanks for the laugh.

  • @knowyouronion12 - Still, I am against the use of nuclear weapons against civilian targets in war, not on moral grounds (since civilians still do fund war efforts) but because like that scene in Kill Bill--"doing this thing would lower us". Sometimes, you need to fight man to man and avoid charring people alive in their beds.

The British did once set the modern standard of polite, civil, elegant behavior, and whatever the culture's flaws, the world owes GB a huge debt of honor and gratitude.

  • @seandanconia "The British did once set the modern standard of polite, civil, elegant behavior, and whatever the culture's flaws, the world owes GB a huge debt of honor and gratitude." There are many many many places around the world that would take exception to your moronic ignorance.

  • @knowyouronion12 Your right, there has never been a human culture than can be described that way.

  • @shonstar

They were laughing at how unbelievable his misfortune was.

  • I think the main source of humour was that Japan was and is so incredibly efficient that even a nuclear bomb blast did not stop the trains running, whereas in the UK, leaves on the line in the North means hellish delays in the south!

  • Kokoa0419 apologized to us for her comment. She commented in Japanese as she felt ashamed she said to us "go to hell" with emotion. I don't know her but I think most Japanese like UK and US :)

    Goodbye

    Thank you!!!

  • Alan Davies "bounced off" comment and Rob Brydons radioactive glass of water joke were both cheap and stupid (not surprising given one comes from Alan Davies, who I dont hate but is always capable of some of the crappier stuff out of QI).

Other than that, the only thing that is cheap and stupid is the Japanese (or weeaboo) reaction.

I know it was tragic, but nobody owns history. Were entitled to find it ironic, amazing, slightly humerous or whatever we. Especially on our own fucking TV.

  • It is an amazing story, brought to our attention in the UK, it impresses us. We laugh in amazement that this man survived and lived till 91. Yet, certain Japanese zealots punished the BBC for making us aware of this remarkable man. Insanity!

  • @MrTommydbone I'm a big fan of British comedy but I think what many Brits need to understand is that as brilliant as British dry humor is, not everyone has the same taste or able to accept it. I see a lot of British complains abt Americans' sense of humor and how they would never get dry humor, it may be true, but that doesn't make them bad or wrong or inferior in anyway. If non-Brits get offended by dry humor it's because they are as surprised by the comedy as you are by their reaction to it.

  • @MrTommydbone The thing is, a Japanese person has virtually no sense of humour compared to an average Englishman.

I should know, my grandmother is Japanese,

  • bloody ridiculous that the BBC bothered to apologize for this. Should have told the Japanese to get a grip or get stuffed! A bad sign that this once great institution is losing its integrity, as are many other once good institutions in the UK. QI is awesome, on a par with Attenborough's nature documentaries, learning facts in an amicable fashion.

  • Comment removed

  • @thewhatever379only Probably to do with the increasing right wing influence in japan.

  • holland - good grief!

  • Respond to this video...

  • get a grip!

  • @fuytwtf They're laughing because it was so unbelievable that anyone could have such bad luck - not because they thought it was funny.

  • The Hawaiian shirt and the lei will be the insinuations to the Pearl Harbor.

  • This is not a good joke cuz many Japanese victims suffered from nuclear bombs... This guy, Tutomu Yamaguchi, was actually unlucky but it's not all he wanted to say to people all over the world... He hoped us to understand how scary nuclear bombs are cuz he also had cancer a lot of times and struggled against it...

  • @bee0782 I dont think we need some one to tell us....I think the evidence of hieroshima and nagasaki are clear enough. IF its not a good joke dont watch it and go QQ about the fact that they have brought the Uks attention to this guy because if it wasnt for QI far less people would know about this guy so basicaly in your case its a good thing if you want his msg to get across so i dont get why you QQ

  • @samus404

I mean QI shouldn't have discussed this topic with a laugh. You may know clearly fact about Hiroshima and Nagasaki, but some people particularly Children may not recognize it as miserable things. In fact, TV has such an impact on our mind, and sometimes gives us misconceptions. I don't mind if they discussed it in the street, but they shouldn't have broadcasted on TV. But Don't get me wrong I love UK and US very much :) They are really friendly and I have many friends of British :D

  • @bee0782 Okay i can sympathise with you on that and i know children do watch this show so it can be misconcepted however this is supposed to be an adult show. So therefore I wouldnt blame QI for people allowing there children to watch this or being ignorant and just taking it as a joke rather the people themselves. However Thank you for replying it your point makes more sense now and i can see where your coming from.

  • @samus404

Hey Thank you for reply :D Im glad we could discuss this each other :D I understand what you mean and that QI was careful not to make this topic overcast. but I had an impression first as some of viewers might take that incident lightly. It may be only for an adult but some of them may forget how tragic it was. Never to repeat the tragedy again, we must view it as a serious matter. Therefore, what the Japanese government did is right. it shouldnt be criticized as media regulation.

  • WTF is this? Britsh are licking USA arse now? Shameless people. This is not humor.

  • @danimass dumass

  • British should stop a disgraceful excuse.

  • I understand it was uncomfortable from the Japanese point of view, but the government shouldn't have been involved in this kind of matters. From now on, BBC and other medias in the world can tell the fact of Japan through their news programs only. What the government did discouraged all the medias telling facts freely.

  • And that's the people who honour their loses of WWI a whole month. I think this man has to be shown as an example of something extraordinary.

  • PETHETIC !

  • Why was Mr.Yamaguchi laughed?BBC is crazy!

  • I've been told there's something controversial in this clip. I have no idea what it supposedly is. The only jokes cracked here are at the expense of the British.

  • @kuriokurio Shut the fuck up and get a sense of humour, weeaboo. They were speaking about the fact that Japan can still run public transport after a nuclear bomb, yet Britain can't do it half the time on a regular day. They were having a joke at their own country's expense. They were not insulting Japan.

Go watch some more animes while you cry about shit that isn't even racist. You fucking dog cunt.

  • @kuriokurio "Still this program seems tasteless to me" <--- Funny that you never give a legitimate reason for thinking so. You're just jumping on the 'don't insult Japan' bandwagon without thinking. They are not insulting Japan; they are praising its public transport system, and mentioning the bombs to support this. They are actually ripping on the UK, if anything. Wake up and eat a dick you dumb shit. Get a fucking brain.

  • @ReturnedGrazzt I'm not interested in your stupid opinion so eat your own shit and just kill yourself shithead. Goodbye.

  • @kuriokurio you are on youtube, with access to every video in the world, on an internet with access to every piece of information in the world. you live in an age where you can sit and see the greatest minds speak about things you couldnt fathom, then open a new page and watch pamela anderson get fucked by some stranger. why are you here if the program seems tasteless...

  • @crouchforrest Hey, why bother replying to the comment which I wrote almost a year ago? In fact, I forgot what I wrote down till you sent me your comment. By the way,

I have no interest in Pamela Anderson get fucked or whatever. Get a life you troll.

  • No problem.Really shameful to protest against such comedy officially. It is necessary to esteem the free speech.

  • @amerimashiro

You ought to be ashamed. You must esteem protesters' freedom of speech.

  • @kuinosenmonkey

Off coz I esteem protester's free speech. I am only against OFFICIAL/POLITICAL PRESSURE against TV program. 表現を批判することと、公的な圧力で表現を抹殺しようとすることの区別がつかないってことは、独裁と民主主義の区別がつかないってことだ。

  • Mr. Yamaguchi is not the victim of a typhoon or an earthquake. He is the victim of the bombs dropped in order to carry out wholesale slaughter of the civilian in war which you fabricated.

  • @kuinosenmonkey

It is what you get when you start a war little man.

dont want bombs on your head? dont start a fucking war!

  • @PumilioTurkey

Japan did not start the fucking war. Pearl Harbor is only a reaction.

  • @kuinosenmonkey Cut the 'Japan is so innocent' act. I'm sure the hundreds of thousands of chinese who got killed by them don't share your weeaboo praise. What about Unit 731? Worse than what the Nazis were doing to the Jews. Go kiss Japan's arse if you want, but don't try to play like they're totally innocent. There are casualties on both sides of war, you fucking faggot.

  • @ReturnedGrazzt

The atrocities by Unit 731 are fabrication based on the novel serialized in the bulletin of the Japan Communist Party "Red Flag" in 1981. China had not mentioned this matter before that.

  • @kuinosenmonkey Wow, you are a piece of shit. Saying the war was fabricated. Have you any idea how many people lost their lives during World War 2 and the holocaust? Shame on you, and I hope all the spirits of the deceased come back to bite you in the ass. Fucking faggot.

  • @ReturnedGrazzt

Though i do not agree with him and do not believe what he says is true, you do have to understand that as civilians we have NO IDEA about what REALLY happened during that time period. Since we were little we have been taught it one way, blindly. This goes for everything, the lunar landings to the holocaust. Now personally i believe these are true, I just think everyone should keep an open mind, and not push away possibilities because they are different from what you were taught.

  • @kuinosenmonkey Undeniable fact aye?

Wowzas. How incredibly open minded and original must you be to come up with something like that?

    Idiot.

  • @kuinosenmonkey Wow you..you really are one of the biggest most rotten human beings ive ever had the displeasure of saying i am of the same species. Lets see you go up to any solider who fought in world war 2 and tell them it was all fabricated. Go die in a hole. your worthless to human kind
