  • By the Fourth Grade I was a professional museum goer at the Smithsonian. (They still had the faded diorama-type displays of the large animals.)

I think teachers, to aid their planning, need to know about the layout and availability of restrooms on each floor, including handicapped access.

Also, now that the food service has improved at EACH Smithsonian building, that should also be featured prominently. (We had to eat on the schoolbus.)

    Oh, and the giftshops too!

  • This is great. One question tho - how woudl the teacher know to go to the commons tho as there were other links that I thought she would have clicked on first??

  • Just to be clear, in this prototype story, everything from about 1:19 to when she downloads her collection at 4:34 on is on the Smithsonian Commons website. How people will actually find the Smithsonian Commons once we build it is an excellent question, and one that has a number of possible answers. We'll have to do all kinds of marketing, we'll rely on word-of-mouth, "friending" and sharing through social networks, search, and links from other parts of the Smithsonian's digital presence.

  • @mpedson Thnx. I understand re the rpoptype and find this veru exciting, so well done SI!

I think this will be challenging as teachers may go to "traditional websites" before yet another site. Getting over that mindset (ie "why go there when I can get what I want on the main SI site that's familiar to me?") will be a challenge - not just for you guys but for all of us.

I wish you well with it all however.
