However, this is still my favorite final fantasy game (followed closely behind by VI). It would have been a tie between the two games, except Vivi and Zidane are just marginally cooler than Locke, Terra, and Mog.

Final Fantasy IX was definately the best game in the series (for me). Only people who did not experience this game properly or didn't even give it a chance can say bad things about it.
Just downloaded this of ps network old FF games are always best don't really like the new 1s only like FF VII VIII and IX. This 1 i like the best tho good story line wish it was longer tho was the shortest FF game.

Final Fantasy 7 was one of the deepest and most emotional games i´ve ever played...when i finished it, i thought there never will be any game like this...well, a few years later, FF9 came out...and it beaten FF7 BIG TIME...

Just played the game through. The ending was totally different from what I remembered after playing it like 10 years ago. The Ending was totally awsome. Even had to watch all the names flashing by (dunno what you call it) and listen to the song. :D

Hearing the music just gives me goosebumps, i wish i could turn the wheels of time backwards to when i played this game. a time where i didn't have to pay bills or having to work. I was only fourteen when this game came out and i loved every single bit of it. IX was the best final fantasy to come out.

This game is among the most forgettable in the series. It's all comedy, all surface, all adventure. There's very little character development. Even in the middle of the game, Zidane admits that there's no deeper reason for doing what they're doing. And Dagger asks Zidane if something's bothering him and he says "No." Never have truer words been spoken. Nothing bothers anyone except for a minute. It's a fun game, but very forgettable. XIII and XII are the only worse ones. I haven't played X-2
@namekianer1 I was tearing up at the end, when I thought that Zidane died...I kept crying, I was so sad...and then seeing everyone after their adventures...living on ...I really thought that Zidane was gone...but then he showed up outta nowhere and I cried even more looking at THE MOST ROMANTIC scene in any game. (I dare you to find one more romantic than that.)
I always knew I was emotional, but I never expected to cry hearing a song. But i guess I did. Not only because it's beautiful, but the lyrics are so heartbreaking... it captures the time Dagger and Zidane thought they lost each other.

This song reminds me of you said, Dagger and Zidane, but it also reminds me of the scene when Vivi had to watch the Black Waltz kill all of the other black mages, the closest thing Vivi had to family. Makes me realise how much pain a lot of the cast had to go through.
I like the japanese more because i think there are many more heart, soul and emotion in her voice :) , and i think you are not crazy when you say you like the english one more than the japanese , thats your meaning and taste that the english is better and its good that all people has another taste so it dosen´t goes to be boring ^^

It's just an opinion if you prefer the song in one language to another, and I respect that, as long as people don't say "it's my opinion but i'm right". When watching this video, it bewilders me to think there are actually people that believe FFVII was better. FFIX is far superior to any game that has been done before or after it's time. But I think you have to be more of an old school gamer to be able to appreciate FFIX fully.
Anyone else notice how Garnet/Dagger's pendant flies off in the crowd at the end, but she's wearing it when she runs toward Zidane? Did she go and pick it up after that and I just missed that part or what?
i really love this game.. this is my first game that i fell very touched.. a love by different races.. although its just ps1 games, but the story is full of love, friendship, teamwork, sacrifice and believe each other.. (^_^).. i haven't found any game which more greater than this.. this game is the best..

Now, Nomura and Kitase took control of the creative part of the saga. Complaining about the serie having lost its soul is fruitless. It simply evolved to a new form to suit a new generation of gamers, as it will again when Kitase and Nomura will leave.
no doubt 9 is great i wouldnt say best everything pre ps1 days mainly 4 and 6 those 2 well in my opinion the best i mean the story and character development was great though i know everybody has their own take on it which is all good but i just hate all these ff7 fanboys and girl
@patrickwh You have to keep something in mind. Had Square made a Compilation of FFIX instead of VII, you'd probably be saying "I just hate all these FFIX fanboys".
FFVII was a good game (not as good as IX in my opinion, but hey...) but they overglorified it. In the end, it became such a phenomenon it actually became ridiculous. Square noticed it. That's why they dropped the idea of continuing the compilation and directly skip to Fabula Nova Cristallis.
i even wish there is version of final fantasy 9 the movie, coz the storyline is really epic! it really inspires me after playing the game, i learn a lot, it really touch deeply my heart.
im really emotional when it comes to final fantasy 9, after playing it, its like you've been a part of their adventure, their story, so its like you want to be with them forever. its my favorite final fantasy game. i always try to look back how i did it, behind those hardships and victories, its so overwhelming. it has the best story,

@FalCie13 i couldn't agree more. this is by far my most favorite final fantasy. people hated it because zidane wasn't like the strong silent type like cloud and squall before him or the characters didn't seem cool enough. :( but the theme was really good! appreciating life, to move on and live stronger.
for me..i love all final fantasy games and their sound tracks are all my favorite..i'm glad my mom bought me a playstation even though it was very expensive that time(1999) hahahahaha..i can say that my youthful life has been blessed by God for letting me experience gaming esp final fantasy..

I'd definitely recommend it. If you liked the earlier FF games, you'll love it. The chibi characters might get annoying, but I found them more appealing than the polygons from FF7, and the music in the game is considered to be one of the best in the series. :)
Such a pretty song and I love this game as well. Although 7 was touching in its own way, I think 9 was easier to relate. I think the tiny characters was part of the charm in this game...it wouldn't have been the same if they were normal sized.

I like this song. And I liked the game. But I'd have to rate it as among the lesser FF titles. Why? Because the plot line is really quite shallow. Zidane is uninteresting compared to say, Squall or Cloud. To make things worse, I hated the way Kuja suddenly became oh-so-powerful by activating trance. This does not fit in with the plot line, where Zidane is supposed to > Kuja. I must admit I enjoyed the beginning discs, but... Once it hit disc 3 and you leave for another world, etc.. Cmi :/
Very underrated and under-appreciated game of it's time. I always liked Final Fantasy 9 because it always had a deeper meaning and plot to it, especially the characters, and Zidane and Garnet's love for each other.

@TheNinjaBoy7 So maybe having more emotions is what makes games better? =) I do agree though. Ample emotions in the character and in the surrounding changes the story completely. It's what captivates us and keeps us mesmerized, and have it so that it will personally reflect us or ideals in everyway and for that, Final Fantasy series has perfected. Whether 7 or 9 or X is better is between you and how you can personally relate to the characters and the games. =)

Oh absolutely. Without emotion a game turns entirely bland--FF 9 was a good game, FOR that given reason. A very captivating storyline and the characters especially. I really can't compare other FF's with each other. For all of them were unique and different, yet moving and entertaining in it's own way. It's just that 9 held some sort of grip where I couldn't complain or point-out a single dislike about the game.
@TheNinjaBoy7 agree'd i hated 7 because of it's rediculous popularity even though it's my least favorite it was a great game. people just don't know the meaning behind 9, it made me think a LOT in my early childhood. nothing that ff7 could ever do. oh nostalgia.

When watching this video, it bewilders me to think there are actually people that believe FFVII was better. FFIX is far superior to any game that has been done before or after it's time. But I think you have to be more of an old school gamer to be able to appreciate FFIX fully.

i really love this game.. this is my first game that i fell very touched.. a love by different races.. although its just ps1 games, but the story is full of love, friendship, teamwork, sacrifice and believe each other.. (^_^).. i haven't found any game which more greater than this.. this game is the best..

FFIX marked the end of an era : the Sakaguchi era.
Now, Nomura and Kitase took control of the creative part of the saga. Complaining about the serie having lost its soul is fruitless. It simply evolved to a new form to suit a new generation of gamers, as it will again when Kitase and Nomura will leave.

@patrickwh You have to keep something in mind. Had Square made a Compilation of FFIX instead of VII, you'd probably be saying "I just hate all these FFIX fanboys".
FFVII was a good game (not as good as IX in my opinion, but hey...) but they overglorified it. In the end, it became such a phenomenon it actually became ridiculous. Square noticed it. That's why they dropped the idea of continuing the compilation and directly skip to Fabula Nova Cristallis.

@FalCie13 i couldn't agree more. this is by far my most favorite final fantasy. people hated it because zidane wasn't like the strong silent type like cloud and squall before him or the characters didn't seem cool enough. :( but the theme was really good! appreciating life, to move on and live stronger.
ps i still love ff7 and ff8 don't get me wrong!

for me..i love all final fantasy games and their sound tracks are all my favorite..i'm glad my mom bought me a playstation even though it was very expensive that time(1999) hahahahaha..i can say that my youthful life has been blessed by God for letting me experience gaming esp final fantasy..

I'd definitely recommend it. If you liked the earlier FF games, you'll love it. The chibi characters might get annoying, but I found them more appealing than the polygons from FF7, and the music in the game is considered to be one of the best in the series. :)

Such a pretty song and I love this game as well. Although 7 was touching in its own way, I think 9 was easier to relate. I think the tiny characters was part of the charm in this game...it wouldn't have been the same if they were normal sized.

This is a TV game,so,if you have "Play Station"(I guess you don't.(I didn't..)and not Play Station 2 or 3)You can find "Final Fantasy 9"at used game store or ebay.Maybe there is PC version,too.I"m sorry for don't sure cause I"m Japanese.

Well imo FF9 was the best :) romance and all the above genres compiled into one, final fantasy was the most unique compared to the rest where most of the others were serious while in the game itself you can feel the adventure this game truely brings. It also brings back to the orginal meaning of final fantasy that this game is a "true fantasy" FF7 and FF9 were the 2 best, have yet to play ff10 but they should make more movies outta em where 7 is the serious type n ff9 is more the fun adventurous

I like this song. And I liked the game. But I'd have to rate it as among the lesser FF titles. Why? Because the plot line is really quite shallow. Zidane is uninteresting compared to say, Squall or Cloud. To make things worse, I hated the way Kuja suddenly became oh-so-powerful by activating trance. This does not fit in with the plot line, where Zidane is supposed to > Kuja. I must admit I enjoyed the beginning discs, but... Once it hit disc 3 and you leave for another world, etc.. Cmi :/

Very underrated and under-appreciated game of it's time. I always liked Final Fantasy 9 because it always had a deeper meaning and plot to it, especially the characters, and Zidane and Garnet's love for each other.
Definitely the best, in my opinion, of the entire Final Fantasy series--I only wish people stopped going bonkers over 7--which was a good game, but could NEVER compare to 9. It was so emotional.

Totally agreed with you TheNinjaBoy7! Final Fantasy 9 was so hard to describe with word, because the expression is came from the bottom of your heart. Unlike the others FF series, which it was just a RPG game! I'm not trying to say the rest was crap, all FF series was a great game but the FF9 was the best and unique compared to others series. Frankly speaking, I'm almost crying and touching when watching this clip for some reason. What the good old days!

It's what captivates us and keeps us mesmerized, and have it so that it will personally reflect us or ideals in everyway and for that, Final Fantasy series has perfected. Whether 7 or 9 or X is better is between you and how you can personally relate to the characters and the games. =)

Oh absolutely. Without emotion a game turns entirely bland--FF 9 was a good game, FOR that given reason. A very captivating storyline and the characters especially. I really can't compare other FF's with each other. For all of them were unique and different, yet moving and entertaining in it's own way. It's just that 9 held some sort of grip where I couldn't complain or point-out a single dislike about the game.
