I think that when it comes to this recession, America and the western world is acting like a bunch of a sheltered idiots. In fact, since 1790, the United States has experienced 47 recessions including the Great Depression. So why does this one mean the apocalypse is just around the corner?

There would of course be many other practical and not so practical problems with implementing a resource based economy. (Just wanted to bring this up to provide a frame of reference in order to broaden views).
The fundamental problem is mutual dependency on current form of global industrial system which is not in adequate equilibrium with the environment (resources.. minerals, oil, uranium, clean water etc.) so that world economy as a whole would be stable and where development (economic growth) would be derived solely from more advanced technology, governing, resource utilization, methods of working etc. while sufficiently taking account the stability and suistainability of the entire system...

With the collapse, we can no longer afford entitlements for all of the new people becoming eligible for entitlements. Second, our credit lines and options are closing in on us. The Predator from those famous sci-fi movies lives in a technologically very advanced TRIBAL society, so they must have some sort of resource based economy which is in balance with the economy's envinronment. Scientists say that the problem with various forms of "resource based" economic models is that currently we do not understand sufficiently the workings of "complex systems". There would of course be many other practical and not so practical problems with implementing a resource based economy. (Just wanted to bring this up to provide a frame of reference in order to broaden views).

The fundamental problem is mutual dependency on current form of global industrial system which is not in adequate equilibrium with the environment (resources.. minerals, oil, uranium, clean water etc.) so that world economy as a whole would be stable and where development (economic growth) would be derived solely from more advanced technology, governing, resource utilization, methods of working etc. while sufficiently taking account the stability and suistainability of the entire system...
