if you're on the go, you will need a data plan...in other words yes you'll need internet. there's no way to save the maps yet.

Yes, I do believe you will have to manually update the Google Maps app each time a newer version is released.
If you mean GPS by realtime follow thing, then yes it does allow that as well.
In addition, there's also a street view option which I didn't show in the video.
