Sorry to disapoint you. I am huge fan of Jag, but this XF (Have it here in real next door) - its like a new Ford Mondao. Sorry! Looks like it, feels almost like it, just name is Jaguar. Too big change of look, too many gadjets, but it lost it's original, perfect Jaguar style. I prefer XJ - better, different than other cars, real Jag look and feel. I've talked with Jaguar dealer here and he agree about XJ vs XF, so I'll get an XJ, not that new XF (which is cheaper btw).
Yeah... and all german cars look the same. Vast majority have: Ugly interiors, ugly body shapes (square, etc) crap service when something goes wrong, NOTHING IS INCLUDED but is still the base price, then you gotta ADD stuff too it. I agree. It's ashame they didn't keep it like the C-XF concept version. The grille is almost as incongruous as the S Type, and comparing the grille on this to the concept version is like comparing an S Types' grille to the Mark II. Do you know what I mean?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Ian Callum is one of the worlds best car designers credited for the Aston Martin DB9 and Vanquish etc... The Jaguar C-XF concept was astounding to look at. This is such a disappointment in comparison. The Aston Vanquish looked almost identical to it's concept version. This looks plain and cheap. It looks like a ford. The last true jag saloon was the 1990s XJ. The X type ruined the brand even if it was a good car. This car looks like another step in the wrong direction but I hope I'm wrong.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Ian Callum did not make the Aston Martin DB9's design... Danish Henrik Fisker drew it in 2004. Later he made his own cars named Fisker Tramonto and Fisker Latigo. Recently he made a very fast hybrid car with no name... yet!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
From most articles that I have read Ian Callum started the design of the DB9 and Henrik Fisker finished it. Some motoring shows have only mentioned Ian Callum when referring to the design of the DB9, so I didn't realise about Fiskers contribution. Thanks for pointing that out. I still dislike the look of this jag..
I realize that Jag is the under dog on the scene right now, but give it some time and that will work to Jags advantage. I'm burnt out on BMW just by seeing them all over the road. Seeing so few Jags ads to it's appeal.
I was seriously consdering the new Lexus because it looks good and has the Hybrid technology!! Then i read somewhere that Jaguar are eventually going to put Hybrid technology in this car, So i've changed my mind now :-p

Although it is good looking, its not better than its rivals. The BMW is a beautiful car, as are the A6's and GS's. This car falls just a little short in the looks department but im sure later years will fix that. We dont know anything about handling and we certainly dont know anything about reliability. The only jaguar my family has ever owned was an X-type, an extremely unreliable car. Now that they are more distanced from Ford I would hope that it is more reliable, but its not a 100% thing.
Firstly, how is it not better than its rivals? Secondly, what do you mean this car falls just a little short in the looks department? Are you suggesting that the Bangle-design/ruin BMW 5 series is better looking than this car? You must be crazy. This car looks great especially the rear 3/4 view which is stunning. This car makes the Mercedes Benz E-class look really dated, the Audi A6 quite boring and the BMW 5 series even weirder and more controversial.
Thirdly, this car will ride and handle very well because of the fact that the outgoing S-type (Same platform as the XF but heavily revised using lightweight materials) and the new Jaguar XK/XKR (Same suspension as the XF) were good/great cars to drive. Lastly, based on the customer satisfaction survey, Jaguar was on fifth place just behind Porsche, Honda and Lexus. The X-type is basically a Ford Mondeo in an old man suit therefore it has the reliability of a Ford Mondeo.
I was just about to write a comment, then read yours, and you sum up to a word, my exact thoughts. BMW,Merc and Audi have perfected the art of producing cars that are visually boring/unexciting. This car is brave, very pleasing to the eye with subtle updated touches of classic Jaguar. Technically, it will be up with the best and reliability is a buried issue. The discerning car buyer will choose this, no doubt.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Are you serious? I love jaguar and i love their cars but they need to step it up and get their game together. This car has no chance against any of those cars! The BMW 5 series is a work of art in its own right, the Lexus GS is a beautiful looking and performing superluxury sedan, and the E-class... well I dont like benz. This car dosent have much going for it, and in owning a X-type I can just say I hope this car is more reliable
What do you mean this car has no chance against any of those cars? It's one of the best looking car in its class especially if you compare it against the Bangle-design BMW 5 series. It is cheaper yet now hold its value as well as its German rivals. It will have a much better ride compared to the Audi A6, the BMW 5-series and the Lexus GS yet it will handle dynamically. And based on the current satisfaction surveys, its should be very reliable like the Jaguar XJ and the new XK.
beautiful car. who cares if it looks like this or that? this is jag's answer to the 3-series. its not supposed to be super-sporty or super-nice. the new jaguars higher up the line (XK, etc...) will more closely resemble the concepts. the car looks good, has nice features, and will be affordable. and it drives with spirit, something most car makers cant say nowadays.
i want one. As nice as BMW/Merc's are, they have no character whatsoever. This has. Must be a german thing. Like who is your favourite german comedian. Erm............

The front end looks horrible compared to the concept, the side angle looks like Lexus GS or LS..adn the tail lights are taekn from the Aston Martin Vantage....
...Because the XFR is a different model entirely, due out next year, with an almost 5 liter engine to put out nearly 500BHP, hood vents and other tweaks.
the front is a bit questionable, the side, rear and interior are superb. Bur trust me, from up close it will look a lot better than e-class and 5-series... Jaguars have been all about retro for the last 15-20 years, but they weren't always like this, they used to present new trends with every modell...
Bullshit, the 60s car where modern and forward thinkin when they came out, the E-type was so far ahead visually to any other, and jaguar for the last 40 years have instead tried to replicate that success instead of stayin modern and comtemporary, and look where the hell that got them!

Lets face it the BMW 3/4/5/6/7s look like spincters, the MB range wouldn't even stir your custard they are so bland. Saab should have "made in 1930" stamped on it....and Audi couldn't even spell custard.
Anyone want to buy a bland custard flavoured spincter?
Spot on Jaguar, beats the rest of the utterly boring Euro crap

The future of Jaguar? well the future sure looks bleak then. Not to mention ugly, what are they thinking! it looks like a Lexus and a Chrysler squashed together, definitely doesn't look like a car worth 60-70K.

and the rotary gear knob and vents...what a pile of wank! the guys at Jag must be morons to think that a few mindless gizmos will distract buyers from the cost cutting measures employed in the manufacture of the switch gear, phosphor blue looks more like a Hyundai than a cat. disappointing that the Brit yet again looks to be no competition for its German rivals. 5 series anyone?
Would of liked the body work to have been tarted up a bit more, its still very much like the concept car and is still a stunnin machine, maybe the R version will answer my issues with it tho :]
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I don't know, this car doesn't stike me as instantly as the astons did, or the XK did. The front end just doesn't seem as bespoke as it should be for a jaguar. Headlamps remind me of my impreza's and the grille, doesn't have as much presence as i would like. but still better than an bmw, merc or audi, IMHO.
At last Jaguar has got it! THIS is what people want! The XJ is considered to be 2nd best in the luxury range after the s-class, and though it has something unique very few buy it, people don't know what jaguars offer... But people will buy the xf, it has the stuff to draw buyers! I only wish they had kept the concpt headlights...
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
That front end is ugly-it looks like a Hyundai. The ass is nice but looking retro isn't bad-the original Jags of the 50's-60's were some of the most beautiful. Why can't they keep with their heritage and slowly evolve instead of trying to make a fast buck?
What?!! It doesn't look like crap, the aggressive hood and those "blades" on each side of the front bumper looks great!! And why would they make the grille more horizontal?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Is it just me, or does this car look like a jazzed up hyundai? Apart from that they have also decided to steal design cues from Aston martin, especially at the back. Concept looked much better.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
It does! It totally looks like a cheap Hyundai from the front and an Aston Martin from the back-I wonder if it's built like that too? Talk about Hybrid.
Steal design cues from Aston martin? The current head designer of Jaguar was the same person who design the DB7 and the Vanquish. He also started the design of the DB9.
My last four cars have all been Jags- currently have an XJ- Which I happen to love.(My teenaged son got to big for the XK's rear seats.) This will be my next car...Unless something goes horribly wrong when the company changes hands...
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I love this car, but I can't help feel that it looks less of a lexury brand; I am not sure why, but may be because the headlights remind me of Chevy Monte Carlo and Subaru Legacy--you know the frog eye shape!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I wish they add the Cat emblem, the 3-D one on the hood, that might help the Jag character a little. And the side profile needs a little more curves, but otherwise interesting and it will take me a long time to accept this as a Jag.

Looks like a mondeo! Shame, very big shame. Because of the IMF and WB, including Fair trade, it killed the possability that this country(uk) could get cheap parts and technology. So we have seen it go to shit! I hate to say it, buy an Audi or a Japanese car. No one wants a wobbly American car!
Nick, I will be very worried if TATA of India buys the company
because it will be a real smack in the face considering a former colony of
England now might own a great part of British history. The Queen should do something to save it from foreign ownership and I blame the UK for letting this happen. The quick solution isn't always the best one.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I see your point.. but england has nothing to prove. We dont need to try and show the world we have a bigger cock. Thats why we have given everything back. America does that now. TATA has been funded by funds worldwide. So its nothing to do with India as a country & to be honest, its gone and we're over it. I prefer german and so do many english people. Btw the UK government had shares in the company and i would check with WTF policies on loans to foriegn countries first.
I have a second generation Jaguar 'S' Type Sport, the 2.7 v6 diesel, and it is a beautiful car to drive and own, very reliable and a nice place to be with, what I believe to be gorgeous lines. However, the new XF is looking fantastic, a bit like an Aston on steroids, and hopefully it will get the currently being developed 3.6 v8 diesel which promises to be even better than the 3.5 in the BMW.
Reasonably pleased with the new jag design movement. Though i find the front to be lacking the distinguishing character of previous jags - even the odd faced S-type. Hopefully it will be a driving marvel.
This is by far the best looking car on the road.

The grille looks like a combination of a Hyundai and a Subaru. Incongruent with the rest of the car's lines.

I agree. It's ashame they didn't keep it like the C-XF concept version. The grille is almost as incongruous as the S Type, and comparing the grille on this to the concept version is like comparing an S Types' grille to the Mark II. Do you know what I mean?

I second that. It just looks too "Toyota-ish". All the prestige and glory of Jaguar was showed with the C-XF concept. This one doesnt have it.
Though the interior i must say, is the best one......IN THE WORLD!

Gorgeous car, the typical way of the British raising two fingers to the Germans and saying "we can do it better".
Ironically the only thing that can possible scupper this cars success is the British themselves.

Ian Callum did not make the Aston Martin DB9's design... Danish Henrik Fisker drew it in 2004. Later he made his own cars named Fisker Tramonto and Fisker Latigo. Recently he made a very fast hybrid car with no name... yet!

Now that they are more distanced from Ford I would hope that it is more reliable, but its not a 100% thing.
blackXSpr 4 years ago
Firstly, how is it not better than its rivals? Secondly, what do you mean this car falls just a little short in the looks department? Are you suggesting that the Bangle-design/ruin BMW 5 series is better looking than this car? You must be crazy. This car looks great especially the rear 3/4 view which is stunning. This car makes the Mercedes Benz E-class look really dated, the Audi A6 quite boring and the BMW 5 series even weirder and more controversial.
amdbs 4 years ago 6
Thirdly, this car will ride and handle very well because of the fact that the outgoing S-type (Same platform as the XF but heavily revised using lightweight materials) and the new Jaguar XK/XKR (Same suspension as the XF) were good/great cars to drive. Lastly, based on the customer satisfaction survey, Jaguar was on fifth place just behind Porsche, Honda and Lexus. The X-type is basically a Ford Mondeo in an old man suit therefore it has the reliability of a Ford Mondeo.
amdbs 4 years ago 6
I was just about to write a comment, then read yours, and you sum up to a word, my exact thoughts. BMW,Merc and Audi have perfected the art of producing cars that are visually boring/unexciting. This car is brave, very pleasing to the eye with subtle updated touches of classic Jaguar. Technically, it will be up with the best and reliability is a buried issue. The discerning car buyer will choose this, no doubt.

This car dosent have much going for it, and in owning a X-type I can just say I hope this car is more reliable
blackXSpr 4 years ago
What do you mean this car has no chance against any of those cars? It's one of the best looking car in its class especially if you compare it against the Bangle-design BMW 5 series. It is cheaper yet now hold its value as well as its German rivals. It will have a much better ride compared to the Audi A6, the BMW 5-series and the Lexus GS yet it will handle dynamically. And based on the current satisfaction surveys, its should be very reliable like the Jaguar XJ and the new XK.
amdbs 4 years ago 6
beautiful car. who cares if it looks like this or that? this is jag's answer to the 3-series. its not supposed to be super-sporty or super-nice. the new jaguars higher up the line (XK, etc...) will more closely resemble the concepts. the car looks good, has nice features, and will be affordable. and it drives with spirit, something most car makers cant say nowadays.
blackXSpr 4 years ago 3
The Jaguar XF was meant to compete with the Audi A6, the BMW 5-series, the Lexus GS and the Mercedes Benz E-class.

Bullshit, the 60s car where modern and forward thinkin when they came out, the E-type was so far ahead visually to any other, and jaguar for the last 40 years have instead tried to replicate that success instead of stayin modern and comtemporary, and look where the hell that got them!

That front end is ugly-it looks like a Hyundai. The ass is nice but looking retro isn't bad-the original Jags of the 50's-60's were some of the most beautiful. Why can't they keep with their heritage and slowly evolve instead of trying to make a fast buck?

Steal design cues from Aston martin? The current head designer of Jaguar was the same person who design the DB7 and the Vanquish. He also started the design of the DB9.

I wish they add the Cat emblem, the 3-D one on the hood, that might help the Jag character a little. And the side profile needs a little more curves, but otherwise interesting and it will take me a long time to accept this as a Jag.

Nick, I will be very worried if TATA of India buys the company
because it will be a real smack in the face considering a former colony of
England now might own a great part of British history. The Queen should do something to save it from foreign ownership and I blame the UK for letting this happen. The quick solution isn't always the best one.
ebm14 4 years ago
