Eric Carmen is a very briliant composer, too. He composed the song "ALL BY MYSELF" and he's the original singer. Then Celine Dion sang it and Jessica Simpson sang it, too and I don't know who else. I love him.
I did not know it was a Radio City Music Hall in LA,,i've just remember to be a summer night of 1988 waiting for Eric Carmen outside Radio City Music Hall in New York City, after the show,, he shamely did not feel good that night and he did not perform at that concert but he was inside the building and he appeared briefly in front of the window and looked at us the fans below him.
when i was 5 or 6 the song we built this city was popular by jefferson starship I asked my mom to get me that record, instead she got me eric carmens greatest hits because i didn't explain the song good she thought it was this one. I never did get that jefferson starship record......but i've loved Eric Carmens songs ever since :) i am 32 now and my wife hates my music lol
Amazing performance. Most singers let the crow sing the chorus, but I loved that Mr. Eric Carmen did it himself, showing everybody that he has the pipes to do the whole song.
It takes a lot of talent to make a song sound just as good as the one that has been pressed through all the electronic marvels. Eric Carmen, you are a very talented man! Love this song. How lucky we are that you have brought this beautiful sound to us!
@Gravida12 Yeah! I have always wondered who the two backup female vocalists are. My aunt has this DVD and I remember watching the special features back (i.e. 7 years ago in 2003); and I LOVED this concert. That was recorded back in 1988; and it's kind of ironic of that year, because that is when her first son was born!
@rosynotes OMG!....THANK YOU SO MUCH! Also....were YOU one of the female background vocalists on this video; if so, YOU AND YOUR OTHER PARTNER WERE AWESOME! Were you the one in the Blue or Pink? I ALWAYS get a "lift" from watching this video; and just the whole vibe of the whole Dirty Dancing PRODUCTION. I am aspiring to become a FILMMAKER; and creating classics like this. Any ADVICE on how I could possibly get into the industry? Thanks again, YOU MADE MY DAY!
I was in Blue and sang back up for the entire DD tour. Check out other videos. Bill Medley, Merry Clayton, and Eric with Hungry Eyes. So much fun... about Filmmaking?.. USC has a good school. Not really my area but good luck and wishing you success!
@rosynotes -- Wow--thanks for the post! Amid the vast maze of comments on YouTube, this is the third time I've encountered someone involved in a song/video. (The other ones were a songwriter on a Euro dance number, "Guilty," and a person who was the inspiration for Cymarron's "Rings." So cool. All the best to you, and BTW, you're both great, but I have to admit the gal in blue is my favorite here :)
Any way you could upload the clip of this concert with the Contours and the dancers come out, or the clip of Merry and JUST the guys dancing to... I THINK it's 'Overload.' Those are my two fave parts! Please and Thanks if you can!!
He's Still around, but going through a marital break-u[. I have a download of the Raspberries Hall of Fame concert from 3009 here, and he's still got VOICE! Want him to write and sing againso badly Icould go downto hio from Canada and get him into it!
Wow...what a great Live version. Many times the songs come out terrible or vastly different. This guy definitely has it all together. Great video, thanks for the post. Hey - whatever happened to him?
@excarman Thank you for the information !!! I read today he was arrested on September 9, 2008, for DUI after crashing his car into a fire hydrant. A breathalyzer test showed that Carmen was intoxicated at almost three times the legal limit. He was booked and later released on bond. He was sentenced to 30 days in Ohio jail in mid April of 2009. His jail sentence is set to begin on April 25th.
@DeeJaySidneyRibeiro Well... =that= explains what happened to the 'Berries reunion thing. Shelley (their manager) kept his lips sealed about it when we were talking about dates in the west in 'late '08 or so, though the 'Berries have been playing on and off since then. Hope Eric got into a good rehab program.
@DeeJaySidneyRibeiro/ Eric Carmen is the original singer of that song ALL BY MYSELF. He composed the sonng then, Celine Dion sang it and Jessica Simpson sang it, too
@AntsNYC Consult Wikipedia "Carmen has taken a laid-back approach to music for most of the past decade, working only when the mood strikes him. He moved back to Northeast Ohio from Los Angeles a few years ago, supporting his wife, Susan, and their two children, Clayton and Kathryn, with songwriting and publishing royalties from his past hits."
@AntsNYC FINALLY! Someone who feels the same as I do about live shows! I have the Dirty Dancing DVD with this as one of the extra features. I like it too. Almost like the recording. Maybe even a smidgen better.
Aloha, what an amazing songwriter, singer performer!! Thank you so much Mr. Carmen, you are one of my favorite entertainers of all time. God bless you and keep the music coming please!!
Yes, so flavoured, so full, so nice. This song was reproduced thousands of times from my walk-man, when I was just a little child. It will remains all my life.

Thanks for asking.
