What does it matters if it is not blues or if it is jazz. What diference does it make? What does it do to you? Listen. This is music in its purist sense. It stirs the soul. It makes a statement of sentiment. I am moved to my core by the the notes. I hear Al Di Meola, Santana, and this. And this to me, makes a stronger statement of pure emotion expressed. This man is a master at his craft, and he is generous enough to share. This a Maestro al work.
Not really - if you listen you'll notice the progression is I, flat IV/IV, I/IV, flat IV, II, IV, I/VII/flat VI/IV - and then the second section modulates to A flat major and runs through D flat major 7th chords, B flat minors, E flat 13ths etc.
Hey, Kevin - I was wondering where you got this backing track? Did you make it or download it? If so, could you point me in the direction of where I could get it so I can practice on it?
the backing track is from an old CD I have - however, I do have it as an mp3 on my hard drive. If you send me your e-mail address in a private message to my Youtube account, I'll be happy to e-mail it to you.
Hi Kevin, thank you very much for your comment. Maybe in a few days I'll go to the city to buy the guitar. I've got an iMac and I want to try the GarageBand with an electric guitar. The Oscar Schmidt sounds really good and the price is low. Maybe later I can try the Cubase.
Kevin, just know I am hearing your album. Track 5 Alien shores, sounds incredible, like bagpipes, Bagpipes shores, excellent!
Please, let me ask you something.
I am thinking on buying an Oscar Schmidt by Washburn 335 guitar. Maybe you can tell me something about this guitar? Anyway, thank you for your music, sincerely
Hi Ricardo - thanks for downloading the album. As for the Washburn 335 guitar, I'm afraid I don't know too much about them. From what I read, they're quality guitars. I remember a friend of mine owned a Les Paul type Washburn once (this is going back about fifteen years) and that was a great guitar, so I'd guess you'd be fine with a Washburn 335.
Thanks for the compliment. As for the phrase at 0:16, it's based on an F minor melodic scale. I play a sweep across the dead strings before the first note of the phrase - if you look closely, you'll see that I hold an F note down on the 13th fret of the 1st string with my 3rd finger, whilst my 2nd finger lies across all the other strings to deaden them. I then sweep the pick across all 6 strings, getting a sweep effect with the last note being the F on the 1st string. I hope that makes sense.
After surfing through about an hour of great guitar playing, I stumbled on this track.
It reminded me of why I took up the guitar many years ago. Real heart touch and timing. Thanks for my most enjoyable 3 minutes for years. Andy (bluesbirduk)
Thanks. You should have seen it when I bought it second-hand back in 1991. The previous owner had brush painted the fingerboard & reconfigured the wiring, adding extra switches, etc. It took quite bit of work to nurse it back to health.
Could you tell me what formed the basis for your note choices. Were you thinking in blocks of home keys, or individual chords or what? Or, did you just use your ears? It's all like maths to me and I was crap at that too. Could never think logically.
I'm not really thinking in terms of scales here, but I suppose if you analysed it you could say I'm using the Aeolian mode. The piece is in Fminor/ A♭ major, so the notes of that mode in F (F, G, A♭, B♭, C, C#, E♭) fit nicely over either key.
good jazz/blues feel. I've gotten into that as i've gotten older (i'm 36) I feel it more then I feel MOST of the modern rock, etc today. beautiful playing.
Love the video. I once played the 335. I'm telling you what, I will never ever forget what that experience was like. I previously owned a Les Paul Studio and it never got close to the tone I had with the 335. Unfortunately, the owner of the guitar didn't take care of it cause when I went back to my hometown a few years later, the wood was rotting. I like your style of playing.
Thanks very much. The 335 is a 1989 edition. When I bought it (second-hand) the previous owner had BRUSH PAINTED the fingerboard with varnish & fiddled with the wiring...I nursed it back to health.
It's off an old backing track CD...I'm not sure if it's still available. Having said that, I recently found this site: guitarbt (.com). It has some of the tracks from the CD on it; it may have this particular one, too.

eeeh, poor ideas, too freaky, inelegant vibrato in my opinion, but the guitar sounds just great

@ratolest: it does not sound like mainstream-jazz but the feeling and phrasing is great. "too freaky" is a very personal and subjective justice.
