  • Dude your CD is awesome!

    keep on going (;

  • @ZOZOzozo009

Thanks very much...and thanks for downloading the CD, too.

  • the last lick is so nice 8)

  • Thanks, Josh. I just wish I'd recorded it a bit better.

  • It's been nearly 3 years since I first watched this, I've very rarely seen any phrasing come close to this. Great work, Kev!

  • can you tell me where you have the jamtracks from?

  • @fragmashine

This one is from an old guitar magazine CD. However, a great, free backing track website I found is - guitarbackingtrack , com

  • nice bluesy approach with great tone - like it very much. It sounds like if Eric Clapton would have dealt with jazz.

  • Absolutely beautiful :) Brilliant guitar, really nice tone, your phrasing and timing are masterful, keep up the good work

  • Thanks very much indeed.

  • Terrific pacing and phrases. I was curious if you are familiar with Heritage Guitars? Do you know what would be similar to the 335 in their line?

  • Every time I hear you I rejoyed. Simple in concept. Grand in execution. That's what makes this great!

  • @arcanadirect

Thanks very much - I've always thought "less is more" type soloing is the best (although I find it hard to play that way at times).

  • 0:05 to 0:10. Awesome phrasing there.

  • Thanks very much - you're a pretty handy guitarist yourself. That's a great Vinnie Moore cover you've done.

  • eeeh, poor ideas, too freaky, inelegant vibrato in my opinion, but the guitar sounds just great

  • What does it matters if it is not blues or if it is jazz. What diference does it make? What does it do to you? Listen. This is music in its purist sense. It stirs the soul. It makes a statement of sentiment. I am moved to my core by the the notes. I hear Al Di Meola, Santana, and this. And this to me, makes a stronger statement of pure emotion expressed. This man is a master at his craft, and he is generous enough to share. This a Maestro al work.

  • @ratolest: it does not sound like mainstream-jazz but the feeling and phrasing is great. "too freaky" is a very personal and subjective justice.

  • this is blues not jazz

  • Not really - if you listen you'll notice the progression is I, flat IV/IV, I/IV, flat IV, II, IV, I/VII/flat VI/IV - and then the second section modulates to A flat major and runs through D flat major 7th chords, B flat minors, E flat 13ths etc.

  • Wrong :)

  • I am absolutely stunned by this. Exquisitely beautiful and haunting. Thank you very much for this gift.

  • Also want to tell you that´s nice and accurate the way you handle guide tones !!

  • Awesome indeed !

Kevin you´re a serious guitar player

    Congratulations !!

By the way and if you don´t mind of course... but I wonder where did you get the backing track??

would you be so kind and let me know

Thanks a lot from Caracas- Venezuela

  • Hey, Kevin - I was wondering where you got this backing track? Did you make it or download it? If so, could you point me in the direction of where I could get it so I can practice on it?

  • Hello Will,

the backing track is from an old CD I have - however, I do have it as an mp3 on my hard drive. If you send me your e-mail address in a private message to my Youtube account, I'll be happy to e-mail it to you.

  • Great! 5 star! Você é brasileiro?

  • Não, eu não sou brasileiro. Talvez eu tocar guitarra com um sotaque brasileiro, embora ...

  • Dear god, it really sings...

  • 5 star*

  • Very well..... five stars !

  • Thanks very much...e obrigado por subscrição, também!

  • Beautiful, man

  • Hi Kevin, thank you very much for your comment. Maybe in a few days I'll go to the city to buy the guitar. I've got an iMac and I want to try the GarageBand with an electric guitar. The Oscar Schmidt sounds really good and the price is low. Maybe later I can try the Cubase.

  • Kevin, just know I am hearing your album. Track 5 Alien shores, sounds incredible, like bagpipes, Bagpipes shores, excellent!

Please, let me ask you something.

I am thinking on buying an Oscar Schmidt by Washburn 335 guitar. Maybe you can tell me something about this guitar? Anyway, thank you for your music, sincerely

    Ricardo

  • Hi Ricardo - thanks for downloading the album. As for the Washburn 335 guitar, I'm afraid I don't know too much about them. From what I read, they're quality guitars. I remember a friend of mine owned a Les Paul type Washburn once (this is going back about fifteen years) and that was a great guitar, so I'd guess you'd be fine with a Washburn 335.

  • wonderfull, full of feeling

    thanks from buenos aires

    ricardo

  • Thanks vey much indeed.

  • sweet

  • Excellent!

  • yeah, nice tone and feel! have you heard of kenny poole??? CHECK HIM OUT!

  • loved it, great technic

  • WOW

  • absolutely woderfull

the articulations, the everything, just perfectly smooth

I've tried to emulate what you do at around 0:16 ..., doesn't rly work

    what do u play there?

    thnx, amazing playing

  • Thanks for the compliment. As for the phrase at 0:16, it's based on an F minor melodic scale. I play a sweep across the dead strings before the first note of the phrase - if you look closely, you'll see that I hold an F note down on the 13th fret of the 1st string with my 3rd finger, whilst my 2nd finger lies across all the other strings to deaden them. I then sweep the pick across all 6 strings, getting a sweep effect with the last note being the F on the 1st string. I hope that makes sense.

  • This is fantastic. So smooth.

  • Muito obrigado, Andre.

  • Very tasteful - great!

  • how are you improvising what scales are you playing?

  • This is fantastic. So smooth.

  • nice tone and musical sensitivity

and this is coming from a george benson loving metalhead!?!?!?!?

  • Thanks very much indeed - although I could be more of a Satriani loving jazzhead; I'm not sure, really...

  • You're really great. This is some of the little quality guitar improv on youtube. Nice guitar too, by the way.

  • Thanks very much indeed.

  • After surfing through about an hour of great guitar playing, I stumbled on this track.

It reminded me of why I took up the guitar many years ago. Real heart touch and timing. Thanks for my most enjoyable 3 minutes for years. Andy (bluesbirduk)

  • And thanks to you for such a kind remark - much appreciated.

  • 1:32 to 1:35....pure genius.

  • Thanks very much.

  • You sound kind of like les paul on some parts.

  • il jazz è bello pero fai anche un rock

  • This is good stuff.

  • fantastic!

    thanks

  • Bravissimo!!!

  • Gorgeous, really nice vibrato technique. Great tone too! x

  • just picked up your 'Alien Shores' CD. great stuff. thank you.

  • Nice sound, what effects and amps do you us for this?

  • Thanks. My gear on this is fairly out of date; a Zoom 9002 processor & a Peavey Stereo Chorus 400 amp.

  • okay thanks ;)

  • old sounds best, vinyl still sounds good right? :P

  • Nice One! very cool. lovely sound.

  • Where can i download background music to jam over? Do i have to buy it or something?

Anyways, great playing... makes me want a 335 real bad

    thanks

  • fantastic playing!

and proof that the 335 is great for jazz ...

  • That is the nicest looking and sounding 335 ive ever heard

  • Thanks. You should have seen it when I bought it second-hand back in 1991. The previous owner had brush painted the fingerboard & reconfigured the wiring, adding extra switches, etc. It took quite bit of work to nurse it back to health.

  • wow! wt the hell lol, tht guy needs help!!!

bt its nice 2 no its now i the hands of a VERY talented man :)

  • I just subscribed to your vids. You are a great player.

  • Thanks very much indeed.

  • hey if you really want to do it with all your heart, nothing will stop you from achieving your goal.

  • Great player bravo

  • WOW

  • Beautiful playing :)

  • nice ;D

  • really nice! great feeling!

  • HI. great !! sound, hi

  • You Don't Know What Love Is? Is that the tune.

  • To be honest with you, I don't know where the chord progression is from. I got it from an old "jamtracks" CD.

  • Could you tell me what formed the basis for your note choices. Were you thinking in blocks of home keys, or individual chords or what? Or, did you just use your ears? It's all like maths to me and I was crap at that too. Could never think logically.

  • I'm not really thinking in terms of scales here, but I suppose if you analysed it you could say I'm using the Aeolian mode. The piece is in Fminor/ A♭ major, so the notes of that mode in F (F, G, A♭, B♭, C, C#, E♭) fit nicely over either key.

  • I think you are one of the absolute greatest guitarists I've ever seen! Good stuff!

  • Then you should check out Andy McKee=) Just search for him here on YouTube.

  • great, really great!

  • good jazz/blues feel. I've gotten into that as i've gotten older (i'm 36) I feel it more then I feel MOST of the modern rock, etc today. beautiful playing.

  • nice "metallic" sound...i love that "raw" sound..

    *_*

  • Everything is so good mf... Your sound, your skills, your ideas...Very good!

  • i don't think it's that "jazz" but i really love it,great playing!i feel it with a little bluesy flavour when hearing this.very very nice guitar!

  • one of my fav guitars

  • wow, nice, sounds a bit like steve vai.

  • rofl stfu

  • Love the video. I once played the 335. I'm telling you what, I will never ever forget what that experience was like. I previously owned a Les Paul Studio and it never got close to the tone I had with the 335. Unfortunately, the owner of the guitar didn't take care of it cause when I went back to my hometown a few years later, the wood was rotting. I like your style of playing.

  • Really nice.. it's my favorite video.

  • Man ....

YOur style is different. Some how it has not come to light.

    But..

    Do not falter...

Someday (if you abide) you will play or be with the angels...

    Thanks

    With love

    God Bless you brother....

  • Gorgeous, warm melodic tone. I love the 335. Specs on the vintage of that bad boy? I prefer 335's without the rosette. Nice choice, great sound.

  • Thanks very much. The 335 is a 1989 edition. When I bought it (second-hand) the previous owner had BRUSH PAINTED the fingerboard with varnish & fiddled with the wiring...I nursed it back to health.

  • Such a lovely mood you created.Great playing & beautiful 335.Could I ask you where you got that backing track...I love it. :)

  • It's off an old backing track CD...I'm not sure if it's still available. Having said that, I recently found this site: guitarbt (.com). It has some of the tracks from the CD on it; it may have this particular one, too.

  • how long have you been playing man smooth licks by the way

  • Thanks very much. I've been playing about 30 years (as I write that, I'm slightly shocked; I'm amazed I've been playing that long...)

  • Oh 30 years, ok that is understandable. Now i have a good reason to be jealous.

  • what do you think about the artcore AF 95?

  • I've never actually played one, but they certainly look good. If Ibanez's track record is anything to go by, I'm sure they're a great guitar

  • I'm not really thinking in terms of scales here, but I suppose you could say I'm using the Aeolian mode. The piece is in Fminor/ A♭ major, so the notes of that mode in F (F, G, A♭, B♭, C, C#, E♭) fit nicely over either key.

  • You are my Hero!

  • Ok, thanks.

  • Very nice,I see you're another old timer like me,lol, what are you using for backing tracks, nice piano. Very good playing.

  • Thanks very much. The backing track is just an old jam track CD I bought 10 or 15 years ago. I like your videos, by the way. Nice presentation & playing.

  • What scales are you playing?

  • nice playing, smooth licks.

  • sweet tones!

  • wow...

  • that's baby making music

  • nice use of the sweep picking man, really adds some flair to the licks. keep it up

  • Beautiful touch and tone! What amp and effects are you using? Is that song "You Don't Know What Love Is? M

  • Thanks very much! My gear is fairly out of date; a Zoom 9002 & a Peavey Stereo Chorus 400. I checked out your vids too, by the way; excellent stuff.

  • I wouldn't change your gear at all with a sound like that - as you could see - we both play blond ES-335's - my dream guitar.

  • ...check out my 1964 Gibson ES 345 td

  • That was really nice, sounded like Pat Metheny.

  • You are rock,my darling!

  • Very very nice, indeed.

  • Really nice improv. Cool acoustic-y tone to the guitar too.

  • Thats tasty stuff!

  • Not bad for a beginner.

  • what says beginner about his playing at all? that's so pretentious

  • It was sarcasm - that's my brother up there! My KID brother. He'll appreciate your concern.
