  • This was 1996, but the hair and clothing makes it look like 1986.

  • If you cant say anything nice then shut up go away and go find a hole to crawl into from hence you came. He was asked to sing and he is amazing.

  • I remember this!!!! This was one of the most memorable wimbledon in a long while.

  • Is this the wankiest video you have ever seen? I had to look it up to comment. Utter jism

  • prince even lol

  • was that price william in the (i think) springbok top waving his arms? lol

  • I bet everyone couldnt wait for it to stop raining , any attention that fag could get everytime time they know cliff is attending a match they should provide earplugs with the strawberrys incase it rains , even if he is banned from singing at wimbledon nothing will stop him!

  • My son harry thinks Cliff is an idiot

  • well I suppose those pricey strawberries have a use as ear plugs.

  • I saw this live and to be fair I seem to remember that someone just came up to him out of the blue with the mike and he was a bit reluctant at first. When he's doing it I think he would've just have been thinking of the people in the court and not about a tv audience. It might be cheesy but good on him I say.

  • i agree with michael gash. so cringy its unreal (cliffs a cunt)

  • whoever gave this smarmy arsehole a microphone deserves to be shot

  • @MichaelGash100

Climb back into your orc pit, Gash. Before the sun rises.

  • Why did he decide to sing in the first place.

I know it was raining but I wonder what made him decide to get up and sing.

  • @skeletorphd

There was nothing to do. He's an entertainer.

  • First of all: acapella singing is the most difficult thing and if all you people think you can do it better; go ahead!

  • Who gave him the Microphone? Whoever gave him the microphone should also be banned from wimbledon

  • The most embarrassing day in wimbledon history

  • I was there when he did this.

We just wanted him to get struck by a bolt of lightening

  • I was there when he did this.

We just wanted someone to shoot him.

  • Joanna Lumley only started singing when she noticed the camera!, she made that obvious.

  • those grannies are foaming at the gash

  • @chrislovesloz - Ohhhh you naughty young scamp you.

  • Never really been a massive plan of Cliff, but you really have to hand it to him here. Like to see some of the modern 'stars' be able to pull something like this off. No music, no producers, no autotune, nothing. Imagine Cheryl Cole trying to do something similar!!

  • What a gluebag.

  • This still eclipses that infamous Mahut-Isner 1st Rnd Match from last year.

  • look at some of those empty seats. i'd love to see their reactions when they sat back down and heard the news of what happened over the rain delay!!

  • than u r lucky most person among i know

  • I remember watching this live when I was 11!!

  • I don't understand. I've seen cliff Richard last year and he looked much older. He looks young here.

  • Sir Cliff Richard is super ! Życzę wielu współczesnym piosenkarzom takiego talentu!

  • Not allowed to sing at the tournament? o_O; The organizers should just keep their mouths shut, I mean, Cliff wasn't probably even payed anything for this. He did this for free just to keep moods high - I don't see how they could complain about something like THAT.

  • Imagine, no music no band and your voice........ wow....He's a true star and he shined that day. Amazing!!!

  • who were those hideous women (I think) that came and danced behind him, were they players?

  • it was on the afternoon of 3 July 1996, when Sir Cliff cobbled together his implausible choir.

British singing icon Sir Cliff Richard was told that, despite the success of his well-meaning antics during the rain-soaked Wimbledon tennis championships of 1996, when stunned spectators joined in with weird renditions of his old hits, the boyish star will not be allowed to sing at the tournament anymore.

  • @malaynsamani nice, but this seems to be from a spoof article...

  • Cliff was silent - for once - over the ban that night, but a spokesman told:

"You don't last as long as Sir Cliff has without being able to wangle some way of self-promotion, and even a new retractable roof won't stop his charmless drone!"

  • He stood up and started to sing... that was a risky move.... but watching it on tv... it sure beat the rain that day

  • Not a great lover of Sir Cliff - but bloody hell that takes some doing and makes you proud to be British...

  • done well 2 get a response out of that audience

  • RIP

  • Say what you like about Sir Cliff - he is a man of immense generosity, talent, warmth, charisma, sincerity and showmanship. This truly is humbling.

  • The Ever Green Entertainer

  • Jesus... who still had a mullet in 1996??

  • i remeber this when i was 8

  • whatever your thoughts on Cliff, he,s definatly got it

  • Born entertainer.

  • Very nice! Thanks for posting this amazing video

  • Grande Cliff!!

  • This was unplugged, unplanned to a live audience - brilliant.

  • @SimonDolan yeah except its not unplugged is it. Unless you could a wireless Microphone. And its tedious

  • Great to see this again. I just love the quality of his voice and you can really hear it here with no instruments to get in the way. Thanks for posting
