@gaminkalv part of it has to do with testosterone, the more you have, the more risk you're willing to take - hence the phrase "grow some balls", also these people do it for the live of the thrill, these climbers are adrenaline junkies. You truely have not felt alive till you experience a full on adrenaline rush, and this is what these people are chasing. I am next in line, I'm saving up money to get certified to become a tower climber and hopefully find work as one!

@YouonPictures There are numerous categories of "tallest" -- buildings (require a certain amount of habitable area) and towers, both guyed and un-guyed. Wikipedia lists the CN tower presently at #3, after two in Asia that were completed in 2010 and 2011. (wikipedia: List_of_tallest_towers_in_the_­world)

So until pretty recently it was the tallest in its class.

Burj Khalifa is the highest building in the world (828 meters), but there is no comparison for working in extreme winds, cold weather and dangerous environment high up in the air. Things got worst when the well scheduled job had to be completed earlier.

@CarlosMarioMedellin There is a misunderstanding with communications structures as to what is what. Towers are self supporting and masts are guyed. Most certainly there are taller antennae structures of 1800 feet and up to 2000 feet but these are guyed masts. Many small towers are of lattice structure and stand on four legs. The CN tower is currently the tallest tower but not the tallest broadcast mast.
