It just seems strange to me that the Creed is everything we believe in and I don't understand why something that professes the faith can be arbitrarily dropped. So far it has not at the Latin mass.
@lauermar It is not arbitarily dropped - it is optional on certian weekday Masses. Take a look at a good missal or other explanation of the Mass to learn more.
Can anyone tell me if there is a reason why a priest would drop the Creed and the "Lord, I am not worthy..." during a weekday mass? Is this usual, customary and allowed? I haven't seen this at any other masses I've been to. I saw it yesterday in a neighborhood parish I used to go to. I remember the pastor banished all missalettes and song books from the pews many years ago, saying they were distracting. Now I wonder if he did that so he could improvise mass without anyone noticing.
@lauermar The creed is not said at all Masses (same with the gloria) although the other prayer ("Lord, I am not worthy") is part of the Eucharistic prayer, and so shouldn't be dropped, I think.
This all recaps on your CIA documentary "Mass Destruction": if the mass is made to look like a Protestant service, the congregation will adopt Protestant beliefs eventually. That is how Cranmer managed to snatch masses of English Catholics from the faith: replace the mass with something that looks like a Anglican service. Unfortunately, the liturgical reform after the council adopted everything the reformers wanted to accomplish 500 years earlier.
About the applause: THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! As a musician, nothing makes me more uncomfortable than when Father says, "Let's all show our appreciation for the beautiful music". Hello, this is not "Mass: The Musical."
@bshaver141 I don't know what video you watched, but it wasn't this one. We make it clear that the Mass is not for the music ministers (among other people) and you . . . make exactly the same point. Nowhere do we say anything like "music should be banned" but rather that the music should do exactly what you say you do with the music; add to the liturgy without distracting from it.
I was dismissed from my first seminary for saying some of the things you say here Mr. Voris. I don't doubt that the priests and bishops who allow the deformation of the Liturgy have good intentions... but we all know what the road to hell is paved with. Pray for seminarians, priests, and bishops.
I really enjoy watching your videos on...well.....everything. I am a college student at Purdue University and I tell ya, it is so incredibly hard to remain Catholic in today's society. I thank God for the Eucharist and RealCatholic TV, both of which have kept me strong in my faith.
Also, have you ever considered doing a Vortex episode or CIA on the demographic winter that is about to grip mankind? It has serious implications.
Yes, I am sick, sick, sick of everyone being called a minister. Its disgusting. Worse, I think that the focus on "ministry" is directly killing vocations to the priesthood and religious life. People do not realize that lay ministry is not a religious vocation! In fact they say the opposite.
After years of searching for "that something missing" in several parishes throughout the diocese, we discovered a small chapel mission of the extraordinary form, the Tridentine Mass! We are blessed with a wonderful FSSP priest! I encourage all to search for the jewel of our Faith.
@hayfarmz God bless you, hayfarmz. It's a whole new world, isn't it? And one that was hidden from folks like me who were raised after VII. Deo Gratias!!
GriffinElliot@ Can you explain to me the LASALLETTE expression ? I all my life studied at La Salle school in Brazil and I must say, this congregation is so failling on the teching of the Faith.
I left the Latin Rite and now am a Byzantine Catholic because of the liturgical abuses in the parishes that I attended and the profound lack of reverence for the presence of the Lord before, during and after mass. No place is perfect, but at least I don't have to deal with invented rubrics, obnoxious singers, "ministers" of communion, and other such problematic issues. Michael, I applaud you and your colleagues and admire your work. Keep doing what you're doing. Thank God for Cardinal Burke.
I live on the border of two dioceses; mine is very orthodox and the other is very liberal. In our parish, Mass is said reverently and exactly by the rubrics, but two miles away, that parish seems to have their own pope. How can two parishes, which are as different as Lutherans from Baptists, both be called Catholic?
Great vid-our current reality is a nightmare and is "soul wrenching" indeed. The devil has been allowed to run rampant through the sanctuaries. We need to pray for 'improperly formed priests & religious'. Sadly, yes, many bishops & shepherds will burn in hell for what they've done and what they've DELIBERATELY not done. This was fortold at LASALLETTE! The question should be: why has Burke waited until now to make this statement? It's awfully late in the devils endgame- just sayin. . .
This is so good, when young and living in Brazil ohhh my, the mass became a ShowMass, bands like rock n roll, when I moved here to Sweden, a terrible atheist country but the Catholic Church is doing right, the Mass is no quiet,, so respectfull, so mystical to God, so in silence...I so love it!!! Another big topic I must talk to my priest in Brazil, the Mass is more a party to people than a sacrifice to Jesus. Thanks Michael, well tought and Bless Cardinal Burke for sure.
God bless you Michael! This was a fantastic video. So many times I have left Mass shuddering at what I had just witnessed. Normally I kneel and try and bury myself in the Rosary in penance for when the priest starts walking up and down the isles asking the audience questions during the homily. Please Lord, have Mercy on us!!! Although we do not deserve the Tridentine Mass please, for the sake of your son's brutal death on the cross, grant your Church the grace to return to the Mass of all Time.
The Latin Mass with Vernacular (English) included (example: The Daily Mass on EWTN-TV) would be understandable. The problems really start with the Eucharist not being reverenced. With all the talking that occurs after and before the Mass in the Presence of the Eucharist, even by most Priests and Deacons setting this bad example.
The Bishops have embraced the Neo-catechumenal Way with all of it's abuses. This is something that must be dealt with from the top down. All the laity can do is pray and find Masses that are not full of abuse. The Latin Mass or one of the other Rites of the Church.
@watcher8o I wish there were more parishes that offered the Tridentine Mass. I would like to just go to the Tridentine Masses, but there are none in my area. They should never have changed it!!
@watcher8o Don't forget that there were abuses also with the Extraordinary Form of the Mass prior to Vatican II. I remember one priest saying that some priests would just mumble the Latin to the point that it wasn't coherent. Also, I remember an older person telling me that when they were little that Sunday Mass was twenty minutes long! The Ordinary Form of the Mass is Christ-centered, yes there are abuses but don't be judgemental on a few bad apples. Good priests are coming in the future.
@Chente25 The very form and substance of the old Mass is Christ-centric. The form of the new Mass is very people/celebrant -centric, with some acknowledgment of God and a brief focus on the Eucharist. Of course there were abuses in the old Mass as there were fallible humans involved... But, that is not the point.
All clergy should read the book "The Dignity and Duties of the Priest" by St. Alphonsus Ligouri. Lay people can also read it to see what a real priest is supposed to be. Quite an eye opener when compared with too many priests today. Pray for your priests so that they return to being on fire for God.
@GnlMachoman How about not eating meat on Fridays throughout the year? It is actually still something Catholics are supposed to do. Granted exceptions have been made, and other sacrifices allowed instead... but abstaining from meat is still the recommended norm.

Great video- I just had someone invite me to Mass to listen to someone sing.
I declined since the focus was obviously on a human and not on God.

Hey hey I totally agree that the mass is only about Christ himself....
The Eucharist...
But there is no harm with the proper chants...
Saints and even the liturgy og the church encourage this type of vestiment, not to entertein, but praise God...
