  • that shit sounds awesome

  • i was hopin to see all four wheels spinning..

  • Red necks

  • why dont u guys put that engine in to a cavalier or a cobal .. even an srt4 .. and stop messing with our tunner ..WTF yo

  • Cool story bro!

  • Sounds like an lt1 to me.

  • THATS NOT AN LSX

  • That is so awesome dude. If I had the money and the other means necessary to pull something like this off... Well... I'd be driving right now.

  • couldnt keep the awd system with that motor? that would be a done deal if it was..youd win every race

  • what rear end are you using to hold the power? r160s wont hold that much RWD hp for very long? been looking to RWD swap my wrx and looking for good rear end options

  • @dirtbikeridr12 i was using a r200 skyline rear end... but you should look up TSSFAB on facebook or tssfab.us and talk to william... he makes bolt in subrames for ford 8.8 cobra/thunderbird rear ends. Awesome pieces.

  • @civettels1 what modifications did you have to make to run the r200? if that holding up good, or would you recommend the 8.8 swap instead?

    thanks for the info,

    tim

  • gm sells its 5.3 and 6.0 lq4 and lm7 as lsx engines

  • Those are some creative tags you've put on this video. Maybe fishing for views?

  • Wow very unique huge props on the build.

  • Your gonna be sick when you get beat by a WRX with a four banger.

  • @swadiggs4910 I doubt that would happen unless the boxer is runnin 20+psi. LQ4s make on average 320hp/370tq. The peak torque on these motors is at a pretty damn low rpm... And this thing has an MS4 cam so the top end is very good. A boxer would have to run a large amount of boost and have all the supporting mods to keep up with this setup as is. The money you'd need to put into the boxer to keep up with this would put this car/motor into the low 11s if not 10s.

  • @need2speed94 Your post didn't make sense...there are WRX's running four bangers that would beat this car as is. Do you think a 320 horsepower engine is gonna make this car run 10's in the quarter? No, not even with AWD. Aren't stock WRX's pushing pretty close to 300 horsepower? Great, so all that work was accomplished to gain 20 horsepower and in the process the AWD was lost. Probly not a good idea unless all you want to do is donuts.

  • @swadiggs4910 Ahh. Yet another person drooling over horsepower/peak power lol. You know what all these 4 bangers lack? Torque. No way in hell the boxer is making even close to what an LQ4 is in terms of torque. And all that work may not have given a 10 second car right off the bat... but an LQ4 has 10x the potential of a boxer, let alone any 4 banger for that matter. More cylinders=more potential. For the record, I'm sure with this motor the WRX is faster, but I think it ruined the car.

  • @need2speed94 subarus actually make good torque numbers. just saying. I would rather have the LSX power

  • @emill910 I never meant to sound like I was saying the boxer sucked, but simply to state that it won't touch the LQ4 in the torque department hah.

  • @swadiggs4910 if i built it to be "fast" then i would be

  • Comment removed

  • I was hoping for AWD but... yeah...

Not my kind of thing to remove a boxer engine from a Subaru or the AWD, but most definitely props to you for the hard work it took to do that.

  • what kind of heads u have?

  • This is fuckin awesome.

  • fuck all the haters v8 swaps into japanese carz are fukn awsome

  • I would love to have one with Ken block Monster Enegry designs

  • Last time I checked an LSX isn't the same thing as an LQ4 w/ a cam.

  • @TheSwisherManCan pretty sure lsx=427 right? lol

  • @TheSwisherManCan let me clear up the confusion. Chevrolet sells a "LSX" engine that is a 427 iron block if I am not mistaken. LSX can also be used to refer to all Gen 3 and 4 small blocks. (LS1, LS2, .... , LQ4, LQ9, ....). The second is which the video poster was referring to.

  • Comment removed

  • @onquarter The more I researched it I realized people use "LSX" as a blanket statement. But the LSX GM sells is an Iron block RACING motor that ranges from 366 to 511 cubic inches. If you didn't buy an LSX, you don't have one. The 2500 HD in my garage has an LQ4, not an LSX. If I put a cam in it, it's still an LQ4 truck engine. Ya feel me? I'm not saying it's not bad ass, because clearly, it is. I just wish folks would call things by their proper names. For documentation purposes.

  • @TheSwisherManCan you are clueless

  • @TheSwisherManCan lsx is meant as LSx x= variable....x can mean 1, 2, 3, A, 9 anything. people who arent in the lsx community dont know this

  • @TheSwisherManCan You didn't check then.

  • Its not just a hummer motor, this motor also comes in suburbans, silverados, sierras, yukons, and a variant LQ9 in escalades. They are fairly cheap and makes more sense to start with 6.0L of displacement over the 5.3L or more expensive camaro/corvette 5.7L motors.

All the LS Gen 3 chevy motors are pretty much interchangeable thus making a simple swap from the stock LQ4 heads to say LS1 or LS3 heads possible.

  • finnally...im getting tired of seeing one type of engine getting swapped into thes (ej257) i like the creativity...but y the hummer motor? jw

  • @Darryloake... as far as WOT afr of 13.0 and more timing, a lean cylinder needs more spark lead or more timing to allow complete fuel burn so it would make more sense for it to need more timing for a leaner cylinder, but how much timing a motor can take is no sign that a motor will make more power, more timing is needed for a less efficient combustion chamber, so actually a motor that likes less timing is supposedly more efficient in the way it Burns fuel, which goes hand in hand with more power

  • What are you using for a tranny?

  • Well you've done it in a civic and a wrx, now you should make a million VW enthusiasts dreams come true by building a RWD Mk2 GTI or Jetta.

And I mean front engine rear drive-- none of this FWD engine in the back nonsense haha.

  • Job well done sir!

  • haters got to hate. but ignore them! iv got a blobeye scooby and although i love it this is awesome to. i bet this is a real sleeper to as people just dont expect it. all the twats who are knocking this wouldnt even have a clue where to being with a project like this. love it

  • o lord now there putting ls motors in wrx smh what is the import world coming to they already took over the silver's & pretty much all formula d what happen to just building & tunning the engines that come with the car aint that what made it fun building these little 4 cylinders to take down those big american v8 sad

  • ugh, another v8 swap. at-least it's in a different chassis

  • interesting build....i like your desire to do crazy things

  • Why are people getting so worked up about how this is a "waste of money"? It's his car, he can do whatever he wants to it regardless of your preferences, chill.

  • hm...interesting but i think it's a bit waste of time,money etc etc

  • @hercmpou88 im sure your drug habit is a waste of money too lol

  • Thats the idea mate! something different! let the immature pissbags keep hating. Props.

  • pretty cool set-up unique in its own way instead of slamming a huge turbo in the Subaru why not engine swap. Nicely done.

  • gotta read those from the bottom post to the top post. youtube only allows so many characters per comment lol

  • s2000 hits 13.0 afr at wot so the s2000 is leaner and running more timing and less pistons with the same compression ration but making more power per litre with much less weight and less fuel consumption so what is better about the v8? points for originality though

  • @darryloake gotta love it when people compare two completely different engines, and only use the peak horsepower numbers. What you fail to even bring up is at what rpm both engines made their peak HP at. The s2k makes great power (for its displacement) in such a narrow rpm range, which is nice if your always at 7k rpm, or bench racing. Ill take that 427 CI LS7 with nasty power throughout the rpm range ANY DAY. I'm no mathematician, but I'd like to see average HP per liter (from idle to peak)

  • @mpe331lx your correct that makes sense. but why do you wanna make big power at idle? your gussling gas to have more power below 4000rpm? only useful in a towing situation and were not towing with a vette...

your dropping it a gear or two in the vette and the s2000 so both will be higher in rpm where there true power is. in no racing situation would we be below 4500rpm in any vehicle.

  • @darryloake try autox. plenty of times you're below 4500, yet downshifting would only waste time. HP is nothing without Torque.

  • @BlackCavalier52 TOOOOOOOO TRUUUUUEEEEEE!!!!

I want nothing but a V8 or big ass diesel in my cars.

  • @BlackCavalier52 first off you drive a cavalier. second you race against tranes cuz no one with a decent car will give you the time of day. third autox is fuckin lame as hell. autox is for pussies who are too scared to go on the real road course.

  • @darryloake Cool Story, I happen to do track days too... sorry those videos aren't online. idk what "race against tranes" means but I couldn't help but notice, you have no videos of you doin anything credible.

I've autox'd FWD, RWD, and AWD cars. The average course includes more elements per time than F1 cars at Monaco... but right, we're just pussies with no skills.

  • inefficient compared to a 4 cylinder. a factory z06 is 505hp correct? on 7.0L. that means 505 divided by 7L=72hp per litre. factory s2000 makes 240hp divided by 2.2L=109hp per litre. both engines are 11.0:1 compression ratios. s2000 reaches a max of 25 degrees of timing. unfortunately i cant find any factory ignition maps for the z06 but i know its not as high as 25 degrees. so if advancing ignition doesnt increase power then why does the 4 cylinder make more power/litre? c6 z06 11.7 afr at wot

  • @darryloake don't assume that because an engine can take more timing that its better, an efficient engine doesn't need as much timing (this is a very broad statement and im not comparing the motors in question)

It would be interesting to drive round a track, Id assume it would be a bit of an oversteering pig comparing it to other converted rwd subarus iv driven but who knows it might be a great combo, the instant torque out of corners would make a great difference over the EJ20

  • and increasing boost will blow a motor up if you go too far or have a shit ass tune. its a fine line of running enough fuel to fight detonation but proper timing to get maximum drive on the piston. im impressed you have the ability to build mounts and order a measurement sheet from a driveshaft shop but the car had large potential from the factory if done properly. boxer engines can be expensive to mod but they also have awesome potential of making serious jam. v8s are heavy, gas guzzling and

  • hahah listen to all you retards. half of you dont even own cars so shut up. and the reason top fuel uses rwd isnt becuase of the grip you stupid ass. its becuase awd is hard to go high mph. you have two limitations when making power. physical strength and detonation. with forged rods and pistons physical strength is no longer an issue. unless u wanna make over 1000hp on a 4 cylinder then u start pushing the limits of current rod and piston technology. yes increasing boost and advancing timing

  • How hard was it to fab motor mounts?

  • im pumped to see it after the turbo setup. it would be a dirty drag/drift car

  • Stupid. I don't understand why you would ruin an already good car.

  • @sweetlikeADAM

    it had a blown motor

  • way to be different!!!!!! Thumbs up

  • You know what I've noticed? Most times, when someone is talking shit about a car on youtube with no facts or reasoning to back it up, their name has something to do with weed, blunts, kush, etc (bigblunts634). Just an observation. By the way, sick car, sick swap. Way to go off the beaten path and make something truly unique!

  • made a cool car cooler, so guy is gonna be like nice ricer, then bam v8 in his face like a spider monkey

  • If your going to do so mething as sick as this you should have kept the AWD. Fail.

  • I love these weird projects.... coolest thing ever to surprise people when they hear your wrx that sounds like a Tahoe!!

  • Have fun launching that thing.

  • That sound gave me chills!

  • that car shouldnt make that sound... lol id say lets keep the turbo 4 and boost the shit out of it! but its your car.. i wouldnt of ever did that tho

  • First off that would not blow a subaru engine. ive seen them running 30 psi so u must not know that much about sti's. but i do like it cuz its different and it sounds awesome. big fail on the awd being gone tho you need some fat tires on the back to make up for that

  • Damn that thing sounds good. let me know what ur 1/4 mile time is when u do it. nice ride man

  • Cool conversion. I want to do an LS2 in a 350z. Been done before I know, but it would make a sweet track car. And for all those out there sayin the stock motor was much lighter are wrong. The aluminum LS engines are not much heavier, and in some cases lighter (350z) than stock. You can actually fit a roots type blower on an LS engine and still clear the stock hood on a z which you cant to with the stock 3.5l.

  • @ctsws6 thanks for the lesson in......NO SHIT!!!!! i didnt already know everything u just typed out!

  • @civettels1 Why do you have to be such an ass when you reply? Is there something stuck up your ass? Like mommy and daddy's credit card?

  • @catalina1990 I completely agree

  • @catalina1990 because people are idiots that post on these videos.....its kind of rediculous... either they have to make dumb statements that mean nothing or they try to say something that the world already knows.. and no my mommy and daddy havent bought me anything. I am 32 years old and i work hard for what i have.

  • @ctsws6 350z is a good car to swap these motors into. nothing wrong with the 6, but the lsx platform is much better IMO. ive got a swapped lsx car too. I love it. check out my vids.

  • shelbylancer454, may I politley suggest a physics class. HP (power) is a time based calculation (not a measurement), which is derived from measurements of rotational speed (RPM) and torque. It is irrelevant to which transmission drive gear is used.

To the poster, nice conversion, and clean car. Sounds great, there is a lot of work into doing a non-native job that well. The only things I would further recommend for dyno pulls are: (1) helmet, (2) exhaust suction hose, (3) cooling fan.

  • @FormulaBoat wtf!!!!!! you work for osha? wow...very disturbing post!

  • @FormulaBoat

While this is true, the dyno can read differently depending which gear you use based on engine load afr and ignition timing. You want to use a gear that's close to 1:1 so you don't get any of that.

  • funny how EVERY single car video on youtube has some keyboard warrior fat pale nerds talking shit

  • hahaha the funny thing is it still sounds like a subaru lol beastly :)

  • nice was this on a tuned computer??

  • dynosopeed memphis?

  • @gotz71 Yep. That was in their old building. The move over on pleasent hill rd.

  • any updated videos of this car? now that it's turbo?

  • Finally an import that doesn't sound like my last trip to the restroom.

  • Best of Both Worlds!!! Subaru body and Chevy motor :)

  • and if youve owned too many modded subbies that apperently werent relaible then whoever was doing the work didnt know what the fuck they were doin lol sorry about your luck man

  • @darryloake ...yeah...because Subarus don't EVER run lean. Never. And then you talk like you actually know what you're doing lol. Get a clue before trying to down someones hard work.

Sounds to me like somebody has a case of envy.

  • @holeshot1 haha wtf are you talking about? when i said lean it out i was talking about making extra power with the original setup of the car factory tunes are very rich to be safe. leaning the tune out will increase power but you can only go so lean before you start to get to hot and go boom boom lol very impressive they were able to do a complete new drivetrain and powertrain setup. impressive fabrication no doubt. but 15,000 for a turbo setup and built boxer motor making 500+whp daily

  • @darryloake $15000 for what????? thats like $14,000 more than i spent!!! LOSER!!!!

  • Factory tunes for EJ engines are not rich. They're VERY lean & make the engine a ticking time bomb when parts are bolted on without a tune.

This swap is by far more superior than the EG33 swap or even the EZ30D/R swaps.

Not only is it superior, it's most likely cheaper since LS engines don't cost an arm & a leg to have. This guy obviously has the skills to put it all together.

EJ or EG/EZ engines can't be compared to the LSX. V8>4cyl in potential. Period. No going around it at all.

  • @darryloake haters be hating!

  • @darryloake First of all. He did all the work him self. Second of all. The box motor was dead when he bought it so all he bought was the shell and a dead motor. Plus the engine came from a donor car. So get your damn facts straight before you talk shit on here.

  • @darryloake everything u just said would blow up a motor! congrats...stick to working at mcdonalds! increased the weight??? rofl!!! no!!! spent money????? NO!!! makes high 400's!!! you are an idiot!!!

  • @civettels1 junkyard builds ftw! darryloake ur a retard. lol that is all

  • I totally disagree this is very cool build and I can only imagine others faces when they hear this pull up next to them then watch them in your rear view mirror. Beats that hell out of the ridiculous sound these things make stock. Good job!

  • @mskehan19 To each their own...I like the flat 4 sound from WRX's, but I'm a bit of a rally fan. I also like V8s. Either way sounds better than any I-4, or V6....

  • @darryloak Fuckin right dude. POS no doubt

  • @darryloake your a fucking idiot

  • @darryloake You really are an idiot, aren't you? RWD has more traction than AWD when set up right...Otherwise top fuel dragsters would be AWD. Pro stock would be AWD. But they aren't.

Like he said, more boost+lean A/F+advanced timing=boom. A 400whp V8 will be more drivable than a 400whp 4 cylinder simply by the fact that you are doing the same work with twice as many pistons, so there's less stress on each cylinder. Troll fail.

  • @darryloake You really don't know anything about cars do you.....

  • @darryloake you have no idea what your talking about

  • sorry that's not an LSX but a LS2, LSX's can upwards off 600hp stock and LS2's make 411ish stock.

  • if that thing past me on the street sounding like that....i would be confused as hell! badass nonetheless

  • subimmer

  • RWD with a truck motor - it's not a bad build, but what's the point of the wrx chassis?

  • @polypolyman lol i agree...I'd rather put this in something that is something that's abit more....Muscley?

  • @polypolyman cause i dont want to be like every other joe in this world and put it in the same old shit!

  • @civettels1 That's more gay then 2 boy scouts effing

  • @civettels1 Dude complete props to you!... fuck all the haters out there. I pilot a 2007 ZX3 and I am on my way to building my ZX351. I have a couple grand more to save and I will start my build. Putting a v8 in a car that was never meant to have one shows skill and knowledge.

Oh question is, where is the street vid?..

  • @civettels1 Love the swap, dont listen to the neative props, this stuffs wicked :)

  • @civettels1

We've seen that with the Civette lmfao. Be pretty rad to see you do a Fiat 500 build now ;)

  • Sad its not awd anymore :(

  • fucking fan boys of cars piss me off. the lswrx is awesome!!!

  • Should have done this swap into the "BRAT" not the wrx. That would be cooler IMO the brat is tiny and with this swap would catch ppl of gaurd. Losing AWD big lose. Allot of work none the less GOOD JOB

  • anyone that has anything negative to say about ths can suck my nuts. you wish you had the money and the brains to swap any car. fuck all the haters travis. and fuck you for not letting me go get the lotus the other night!

  • Comment removed

  • WTF NUTS

  • too bad you couldn't retain all-wheel-drive with twin-turbos at 14 pounds of boost. 900 HP AWD MONSTER - would beat a GT-R!

  • sounds badass. fav sounding wrx to me by far (scoob owners dont hate on me. i grew up around v8s and only recently started to like the impreza.) would like to see more :P

  • so you are gonna throw a turbo in it?

  • That motor sound really fits the WRX

  • dang, thats all the 6.0L can make stock???? ah shiet, it's ruined. I would've spent more to put that ej back in :(

  • if only it cld still be awd it wld be a even more bad ass car,but sexy car all around

  • Stock fuel pump!? Walbro, my good man, Walbro!

  • Great idea. Any more info? Plans to get the AWD working again or?

  • Really weird to hear a Corvette sound from an STi, nice work though.

  • There is just something strange about a wrx making american v8 sounds. Anyways, still a cool setup.

  • I still like this thing sounds bettr then a boxr.

  • Comment removed

  • The best part is that you have a 2wd with almost 400 hp that will get past chain control every time!!

  • Kinda odd, seeing an Impreza's front wheels not turning on the dyno too, but still, badass car, man.

  • R180 conversion right I don't see Brembos?

  • @ Stinelight

no typo here def meant to say what a waste of money

thanks for trying to be positive though lol

  • This put a smile on my face :)

  • this is a first at least, and i kinda like it :D

  • When Chevy was working with Subaru, they could have made a AWD V8 verirson with a Pontiac or Chevy badge(back in the day)

  • I'm not a fan of muscle cars but this is as close as I'll ever get to one. And aren't Hummer engines Vortec?

  • dude yyyyy for prob the same money you could hav boosted the wrx to make double what you have now im an import guy i stick with them all the way and u got rid of all wheel drive thats a fail but nice ride

  • who gives a shit if he took out th ej20 for a GM v8.... the idea is fucking unique and that makes it that much more appealing to me and others who can appreciate unicorn cars. This coming from a big turbo audi guy ;)

  • I keep watching this and the Civette videos, I love it! Got any plans in the future for a new swap? Id like to do something like this but theres just no deals like that up here, I gotta move down South where I can find cheaper cars...haha

  • Best Subie ever!!!!

  • im not hating but that sound throws you off when your lookin at a subie.

  • which dyno was that?

  • when you hear the sound u think its from other car ...totally strange but lovely

  • @mallah656 rotary engines make this sound.

  • I did like the idea of doing a V8 swap into a WRX, up to a point at least...but why would you make it a RWD? The whole point of a WRX is that its AWD...

  • thats fuckin nuts!!! good work man :-)

  • I'm a huge Subaru fan, my only complaint is you stripped this one of its awd kinda heart breaking.

  • WOW THATS GAY

  • Now, that is a true modern street-rod.

    Kudos!!!

  • @Jahkov thank you

  • I hear the 1-2 and the 2-3 shift. Not so much 3-4 shift. I could be wrong.

  • Actually from what I've seen dynoing in a lower gear reduces hp but raises torque. But yes 1:1 4th gear is ideal

  • Sounds like dyno runs done in third gear, if so numbers are useless. 4th gear is closer to 1:1. Third gear numbers always higher. Some engine builders dyno like that to please their customers and make them feel like they got what they paid for when they didn't.

  • @shelbylancer454 are u serious???? its in 4th dude.....its a stock 6.0 truck motor with a cam nothing else

  • @shelbylancer454 Most current-day dynos you can program in the gear correction based on (roller output / final drive (rear end) / current gear ratio) * correction factor

  • @shelbylancer454 its in 4th, count the shifts, they shift 4th very low.

  • @shelbylancer454 What? My old mustang made more power every pull in 4th than it did in 3rd. That sounds like BS to me. It wasn't even close either....like a 20hp difference.

  • @shelbylancer454 not always true!

  • would feel great planting it & feeling the arse end step out

  • an STI motor would make better numbers with alot less work and money and still get better gas mileage
