By the way I am an avid AC/DC fan from their beginning, so it’s not about not liking rock. Thanks for keeping the ENTERPRISE, CV 6 alive!!

In my opinion, it was a crime to scrap this ship. She should have been a museum ship. Maybe if the surrender had of taken place on her instead of the Missouri, she would still be around. It would have been fitting since she was one of the main targets of the Japanese at Pearl Harbour & she served the entire war in the pacific
A sad end to a gallant ship & thoe that served upon her
I memory of all those who served & sacrificed on USS Enetrprise CV-6, I Salute you & we will all remember you
@kaang69 I totally agree with you. I believe that Adm. Halsey led an effort to preserve her, but they were unable to raise enough funds. I also think that the Big E has more accomplishments then any other ship preserved and that if any ship was to be saved, it should have been her.
As a former naval aviator (USS Harry S. Truman) I find it amazing that pilots of that era could find their way back to the flattop without radar, often during radio silence, and just blind luck. That's flying!
Correction: She was not one of the decorated US naval ships, she was the most decorated in the history of the US navy. She faught in 22 of 24 major Pacific battles, earning a battle star for each one. She is the ship with the highest toll of kills which included over 900 Japanese aircraft destroyed and 71 japanese war/transport ships sunk. She was nicknamed the lucky E for withstanding torpedo, bomb, and kamikaze hits without out sinking.
@rifleman10000 Actually, no. In this case, CV(n)-6 stood for "night" and the Enterprise, CV-6, was the first carrier to earn the designation CV(n)-6, having the aircraft, equipment, officers and men capable of conducting night flight operations. The ship designation, CVN did not come about until the nuclear powered version of the U.S.S. Enterprise was configured to use nuclear propulsion.
She wass also very out of date, jets could not use her flight deck. New York tried several times to raise money to save her as a memorial, but never cound get the interest so they scrapped her in New Jersey in 58'.
@candr Still why would people do that to a awsome ship like enterprise. that sucks but she has history that is very good by this country we should honor that ship and make it a museum ship. well 50 years too late.
@USSWISCONSIN64 I agree, but they just couldn't get the money. Our own memorial, the USS North Carolina, was saved from the scrap heap only because the people of the state really pushed to save it. I remember school kids giving dimes and their milk money to get it away from the yards. Almost didn't make it.
Most if not all such ships are saved by the people of the state, city or area that remembers it. It is a crying shame, I only got to see it in the yards before they broke it up.
@candr but what anout the iowas and other warships. i don't get why we get good but not great ships to be a museum ship? like the enterprise. why does that happen?
Again it comes down to money, budgets and public interest. In 57' there was not enough of that in one place at the same time. Most if not all the memorial ships are there through public support not the government. Again an example like our USS N.C. in 1960. It was almost scraped, came very close as a matter of fact. It took a last minute effort in public support and advertisement that saved the show boat. The Big E just didn't have it at the time, much the pity.
@candr it is because truthfully, no one wanted to remember the war at all. It was so awful and so cosuming, that when it was over, everyone was just glad the damn thing was finally over. No one spoke much about the war, and everyone looked ahead and went to work and got on with their lives. Yes, PTSD, etc... did exist, but people just dealt with it and went to work and stuffed all that back where it belonged. So there was no interest in preserving machines of war.
My Dad was there:While Air Group 20's tour with Enterprise CV-6 was brief - lasting just three months, from August 16 to November 23, 1944 - they inflicted a disproportionate amount of damage on the enemy. Beginning in the Bonin Islands and ending in the Philippines, AG-20 sank 33 ships, damaged 79 more, and, together with the ship's gunners, downed or destroyed on the ground 345 enemy planes. In the October 1944 Battle of Leyte Gulf - by most measures the largest naval battle in history -
USS Enterprise! She was the most decorated warship of WWII. Big E was capable of defeating any other warship of WWII, Armed with Hellcat and Corsair, and the SB2C there was nothing comparable.
Fine ship, the Lucky Crane, but the IJN did not have Raymond Ames Spruance. Also didn't have adequate replacement pilots. Also didn't have the F6F Hellcat and the F4U Corsair. And for fitting partner to Enterprise there was the Dauntless (didn't have that either). That being said, the Lucky Crane is the Big E's companion, as the Big E was indeed the ever lucky talisman of the US Navy in the Pacific.
Japanese carriers never were as good as their American counterparts. Here is a shinig example:
The Japanese supercarrier IJN Taiho was brought down by a single torpedo from USS Albacore in the battle of the Phillipene Sea, while the USS Franklin, an Essex-class aircraft carrier, once took a whole mess of bombs, torpedos and I think a kamikaze or two, and she still still stayed afloat.
The Taiho blew up because one of the crew made the "innocent" but fatal mistake of trying to use the Taiho's ventilation system to vent out some gas fumes. As you can imagine, all the venting accomplished was to spread the fumes throughout the ship and so it took but a single spark to set the Taiho off like a giant firework.
CV-6 should have been preserved...she had every right to be preserved...she deserved to become a museum and be visited by the generations that followed WWII...AND SHE WAS TURNED INTO RAZORBLADES!
i heard that enterprise was sold for scraps . im only thinking why sell it .i think it was a great ship that should at least been on display. i mean it was in one of the biggest wars ever and was such a great ship.
The First CV to sucsessfully launch a night attack
The most decorated warship in WWII
1 of only 2 CVs to start, and finish the war, but it was enterprise herself that pretty much saved the US in the pacific, Enterprise VS Japan and The Big E won.
In the battle of Okinawa the admiral in charge could have chosen an Essex class carrier as his flagship after the first one was nearly destroyed but he chose Enterprise.
First Mitscher chose Enterprise as his flagship because it was closest carrier with flag quarters to Bunker Hill after it was hit by 2 kamikazes. After Enterprise was hit he went to Randolph again it was closest carrier to him with flag quarters
kind of funny that the ships like uss enterprise , hms illustrious and hms warspite which were in the thick of the action during WW2 and survived severe damage and earned numerous battle honours were just sold for scrap with little thought.
Well I believe that towards the end of the war, the U.S. believed there was "No initial threat anymore" now that the axis nations were defeated. They decided to reduce the strength of the military.
@AJStudios92 it was scraped because its flightdeck was too short to launch the new kind of jet fighters at first there was a collection to leave it as a floating museum but the collection didt raise enough money to save it
@shathriel It has been modified to its maximum level and can no longer cope up with Jet technology...though i do think they should have made it a floating museum
Shame she was scraped !!! Her name lives on ! Star Trek named some of there ships after aircraft carriers. The Hornet, Saratoga, Yorktown, Intrepid, Essex, Wasp, Lexington and the Hood. They will not be forgotten!!!
A grand & 'lucky' ship. The only original Pacific Fleet Carrier in the US Navy inventory to begin the Pacific War in '41, & to come home fully-intact & fighting fit in '45. All the others were sunk along the way. Altho she had some very close run-ins with the Nips & took serious hits in the Solomons Campaign, + with the Kamikazes later in the Pacific Campaign. But she emerged victorious, and she and all who served in her were a pride to their country, having served so well & so valiantly.

You did'nt earn 20 battle stars in ww2 by having strings pulled for you. They were just a bunch of good guys in the right mix.Professionals from the captain on down.
The Grey Ghost is supposed to be the Hornet. The one they saved for tours has the illustrious experience of having a crewman decapitated by the arresting wire. Not my first choice for memorial, but hey, I don't live in the SF Bay area either.
Great Video and nice tribute to Big E, its a damn shame the government didnt keep her as a museum ship. I want to point out to you that the photo at :58 - 1:02 with the Hellcat getting ready to take off is an Essex class carrier. Great job none the less, its good to see people dont forget important parts of history such as Enterprise and its accomplishments.
why thank you and about that photo like it said in the credits I got all the pictures from google and wikipedia and when I made this there wasnt much on the enterprise on google or wikipedia
Uss Enterprise was scrapped by Union Mineral and alloys in Kearney new Jersey from 1958 to march 1960, which also scrapped the USS Essex which won 13 battle stars in WW2 second to Enterprise
it is kinda ironic that Hornet was sacrificed to save Enterprise, yet in the end Enterprise was scrapped and Hornet (CV-12 not 8) lived on. I wish Enterprise could've been saved fro the scrap heap, she was a fine warship.
Hornet had 12, well the 2nd Hornet. The First had 4 battle stars, but if she had survived she would have as much as the Enterprise. Both awsome ships.
Ok let me get this straight. The origional Enterprise fought only in WW2 and then was scrapped in 1958, yearsbefore those conflicts. The one you might be talking about is CVN-65. The world's first nuclear powered carrier.
I was talking about why USS Hornet CV-12 had 12 battle stars, not the Enterprise. CV-12 served into the late 1960s and early 1970s. Sorry if I wasn't to clear, my bad.
Just felt like the right music to play. I'm glad the second Hornet rejoined the Big-E though, after the first one went down... Hornet and Enterprise are just 2 names that can't be separated. I'm gonna make a new video about CV-12 Hornet, I'll respond with it when it's finished. The music to this will be a little bit better, lol!
the current USS Enterprize will not be a floating museum AJ, it is America's first nuke powered carrier and it was given the name "Enterprize" to honor the memory of it's name sake. As for the origional Enterprize as a venteran on battle 360 stated " it was better to have her sold for scrap, than to have a bunch of children running around her decks spilling icecream" and like someone else said the song chosen might not exactly have been the best choice but other than that the video is a nice one
I personally think the Big E should have been turned into a floating museum. It was the most decorated ship in US history how can you NOT save it?? I guess that vet felt it was like the Germans burning hitlers body so the Soviets could not display it disrepectfully.
OK about the song I think it best describes the big E because she was wanted by the Japanese and also she killed almost everything the Japanese threw at it. About video I cant seem to get any,if you seen any of my work you can see I cant get any
I prefer live footage. Dad's squadron was moved to the Lex 12/44. CV-6 returned to Pearl and took VF(N)-90 aboard, and then returned to the engagements you saw in the final episode.
If you've been watching 360, my Father was a fighter pilot at Leyte, in Bakutis' squadron, VF-20. As to the video here, the music is most inappropriate. It should be something from the 40's.
I cannot believe the USN scrapped the Big E. If ANY ship should be spared it should have been that one. It is pretty sad that they sold that thing for scrap but what makes it worse is that a JAPANESE company scrapped it.
As a veteran in the final episode commented, maybe it's better that CV-6 didn't become a tourist attraction, with kids running around and spilling ice cream on it.
I agree it should be saved but whats the big deal about a Japanese comapany doing the scrapping? You do know WWII was over and the bad people running Japan were gone right? I'm sure the workers didn't jerk off the fact they were scrapping the "Big E".
r.i.p.---big E. Im happy that battle 360 is making some honor of this great ship im even gonna buy the series... and i agree it would have been a hell of a museum attraction....complete with a wax statue of bull halsey... lot of history would of been on that ship.

Uss Enterprise was scrapped by Union Mineral and alloys in Kearney new Jersey from 1958 to march 1960, which also scrapped the USS Essex which won 13 battle stars in WW2 second to Enterprise

From swords to ploughshares....

it is kinda ironic that Hornet was sacrificed to save Enterprise, yet in the end Enterprise was scrapped and Hornet (CV-12 not 8) lived on. I wish Enterprise could've been saved fro the scrap heap, she was a fine warship.

Fightingest ship in WW2 20 battle stars, bombed and kamikazied came back for more.

She never quit!

The 2 most decorated carriers from WW2 Enterprise 20 battle stars and Essex 13 battlestars for WW2 service were both scrapped at Kearny New Jersey
jers59 2 years ago
Hornet had 12, well the 2nd Hornet. The First had 4 battle stars, but if she had survived she would have as much as the Enterprise. Both awsome ships.
Blaze3124 2 years ago
Hornet CVS 12 won 7 battle stars in WW2 tied with saratoga, Wasp CVS 18 won 8 ,Lexington, Bunker Hill, Yorktown each won 11
jers59 2 years ago
In WW2, but she continued to fight in Korea, Vietnam, and other conflicts.
Blaze3124 2 years ago
Ok let me get this straight. The origional Enterprise fought only in WW2 and then was scrapped in 1958, yearsbefore those conflicts. The one you might be talking about is CVN-65. The world's first nuclear powered carrier.
AJStudios92 2 years ago
I was talking about why USS Hornet CV-12 had 12 battle stars, not the Enterprise. CV-12 served into the late 1960s and early 1970s. Sorry if I wasn't to clear, my bad.

It's ok we all make mistakes.

@AJStudios92 i thinkl its stupid they rename carriers after carriers, like the yorktown, hornet, and enterprise

Great carrier! Great Video! Nice job, hope you'll check out my video response.
Blaze3124 3 years ago
Yes its very good but why the song from Titanic isnt it a little "cleshay"
AJStudios92 3 years ago
Just felt like the right music to play. I'm glad the second Hornet rejoined the Big-E though, after the first one went down... Hornet and Enterprise are just 2 names that can't be separated. I'm gonna make a new video about CV-12 Hornet, I'll respond with it when it's finished. The music to this will be a little bit better, lol!
Blaze3124 3 years ago
one hell of a ship!!! Wish I could go back into time and save her in 58

Great video! I don't know if it is supposed to be there or not, but the carrier shown at 1:34 into the video is not Enterprise(CV-6).

Enterprise's bombers sank both Kaga and Akagi at that battle and helped sink Hiryu.

the current USS Enterprize will not be a floating museum AJ, it is America's first nuke powered carrier and it was given the name "Enterprize" to honor the memory of it's name sake. As for the origional Enterprize as a venteran on battle 360 stated " it was better to have her sold for scrap, than to have a bunch of children running around her decks spilling icecream" and like someone else said the song chosen might not exactly have been the best choice but other than that the video is a nice one
Zasariz 3 years ago
bah i'm tired it's 4 am here i spelled the ship's name wrong, let me correct that "Enterprise" =(
Zasariz 3 years ago
I personally think the Big E should have been turned into a floating museum. It was the most decorated ship in US history how can you NOT save it?? I guess that vet felt it was like the Germans burning hitlers body so the Soviets could not display it disrepectfully.
FutureWarrior2006 3 years ago
Kids spilling ice cream on it is better than reducing it a few rsuty pieces of metal.
theredraven 3 years ago
OK about the song I think it best describes the big E because she was wanted by the Japanese and also she killed almost everything the Japanese threw at it. About video I cant seem to get any,if you seen any of my work you can see I cant get any

I prefer live footage. Dad's squadron was moved to the Lex 12/44. CV-6 returned to Pearl and took VF(N)-90 aboard, and then returned to the engagements you saw in the final episode.
coniferco 3 years ago
If you've been watching 360, my Father was a fighter pilot at Leyte, in Bakutis' squadron, VF-20. As to the video here, the music is most inappropriate. It should be something from the 40's.
coniferco 3 years ago
I cannot believe the USN scrapped the Big E. If ANY ship should be spared it should have been that one. It is pretty sad that they sold that thing for scrap but what makes it worse is that a JAPANESE company scrapped it.
FutureWarrior2006 3 years ago
now thats what you call ironic
AJStudios92 3 years ago
As a veteran in the final episode commented, maybe it's better that CV-6 didn't become a tourist attraction, with kids running around and spilling ice cream on it.
coniferco 3 years ago
I agree it should be saved but whats the big deal about a Japanese comapany doing the scrapping? You do know WWII was over and the bad people running Japan were gone right? I'm sure the workers didn't jerk off the fact they were scrapping the "Big E".
theredraven 3 years ago
An American company scrapped the Big E in New Jersey... Who said it was a Japanese company?
blownglasslide 3 years ago
That's what the other guy said but you're right it was scrapped in New Jersey.
theredraven 3 years ago
A Japanease company bought the steel from the scrappng of Enterprise.

Glad you guys enjoy Battle 360. I was the FX lead at one of the two companies working on it.
She certainly was a great ship.

r.i.p.---big E. Im happy that battle 360 is making some honor of this great ship im even gonna buy the series... and i agree it would have been a hell of a museum attraction....complete with a wax statue of bull halsey... lot of history would of been on that ship.
betin0022 3 years ago
thats true, maybe they will turn the new one into a museum
AJStudios92 3 years ago
I truly feel the same way

The Enterprise should of been saved as a museum and not scrap bullshit this is how america honors history its just fucking sad
