Linguistically speaking, people can and will say words however they want to. That's how words evolve. Stopping this evolution would only damage language. We'd lose our muchness. Be in favor of change. Life is a lot staler without it.

Try this: Serve yourself a small bowl of ricotta and mix in a tiny bit of sugar. My grandmother would make that for us when we were kids. She wasn't much of a baker lol.
