  • Excellent video. I agree with the guy who likes the Babe.

He was the greatest. Read Bill Jenkinson's book "The Year Bae Ruth Hit 104 Homeruns". It shows that the Babe would have hit atleast 104 homeruns in 1921 if he had played in today's sized ball parks. Great documentation.

  • The modern day swing differs from the old classic swing mainly because the strike zone has changed. This is incredibly important to understand. If the pro strike zone today was chest to knees, then the swing would have to change to be more flat. I like teaching the Old Classic swing to youth because their strike zone is chest to knees, and a youth player gets killed on the chest high fastball when they implement a modern pro style swing.

  • A few years ago they had a traveling hall of fame exhibit in Los Angeles and they had bats from players. They had Ruth's bat and I don't see how he could have swung that thing, it was like tree trunk! If Ruth used the skinny bats that they used today, he would easily hit over 1000 home runs! If you ever been to the hall or have had a chance to swing Ruth's bat, you know what I mean.

  • Same bro now I'm a 350 hitter goin into my freshmen year of hs

  • the kid needs to tuck his right elbow, that is my biggest pet peeve you allways hear dummbass farthers and coaches tell kid "HEY JR GET THE ELBOW UP" its shitty mechanics and when combined with the hitter cocking after the ball leaves the pitchers hand leaves the batter less time to identify the pitch and if its a strike or ball. thank god for compact camcorders that is how i taughy myself how to hit, i had no instruction from coach or father

  • Babe Ruth stood almost facing the catcher when he batted with feet no more than 18 inches apart. He was and is the greatest player to ever play the game. His last homerun cleared the grandstand at Forbes field at a distance of 550 feet. He played in cavernous parks and had about 4000 less at bats than Hank Aaron, and about 50 less abs than Maris for the season. Check out Jenkinson's book, I think his first name is Bill. Ruth was an anomaly and will never happen again.

  • The video makes clear that many of the older swings flatten before contact - there's really no question on this - 1:55 - 2:07 in the video. Thus, given what we see combined with the improvement of virtually all complex sports motions over time, we find it difficult to believe that all other sports motions have improved through the evolution of players emulating the best mechanics of the current era except for hitting. Tomorrow's best hitters will use today's mechanics and continue the process

  • let's see... ty cobb: over 4,100 hits and highest avg. in major league history. babe ruth: second most LEGITIMATE home runs in history, also w/ a high avg. Ted Williams: last man to bat .400. Joe Dimaggio: 56-game hit streak. Hank Aaron: legitimate home run king... Inconsistent? I think not!

  • Ruth's shoulders don't flatten out until well AFTER contact. From heel plant to contact, the major league swing has NEVER changed; the best still swing the same way that the best did a hundred years ago!

  • pujols isnt a lefty he bats right

  • All of these "old" players attacked the ball in a way the newer swings do not today. I think that in the day before weight training and steroids, these "older" swings gave them more power by throwing the head of the bat at the ball.

  • Nvm u flipped..I missed it..BABE AND PUJOLS HAVE REAALYY SIMILAR SWINGS

  • 1:19 is Pujols batting lefty?

  • Yes his swing does cuz he learned to swing natural there was no right and wrong way back then ether they sung wat felt right and the old hitters is how hitters now should hit but sence now they r so strong they have no need to do so like Albert has a complete different swing then any other legend just imagine if they hit like it was back then and with all that strength.

  • agree or disagree doesnt ty cobbs swing look a lot like ichiro swing?
