Needless to say he was more than satisfied w/ my pick. I don't know if it was the song or the fact that my boy was 14 & didn't really know how to drive standard but he must've hit 90 down the Ave. Even made an old man dive while he was trying to cross the street...Sorry viejo!
I'll never forget being 15 & helping my boy hook up his living room speakers to his toyota hatchback hooptie. He asked me to play one of my tapes that was gonna thump bass down the street and I chose this jam right here. That's how we used to show off in the hood back in the days...if you were underage & broke like us.
Man o man what a tune! Remember picking this up on a Chuck Chillout radio show back in '88 and I still got it on tape. It must have been played to death on my car stereo when I brought it back to the UK. So glad that at last someone has put it up on You Tube. MC Rell's flow should go down in history along with the other old skool hip hop heroes
I'm loving the sampling of Booker T. & the M.G.'s "Melting Pot" in this song... Big Daddy Kane later freaked it like HELL for his "Another Victory" joint. ^_^
Im 36 now, but I used to blast "Life of an Entertainer" for hours...brings back good memories hearing this. 'How does your Dad feel about the state of hip hop today?
he thinks rap is all about the same things and is the lyrics are just looped, so they are just saying the same exact thing over and over and over again. he says rap is fake nowadays.
this was a very good record. mc rell was very underrated, mainly because he sounded like rakim, though not as much in this joint. i liked his album also, with "soundwave sermon", "hole in my pocket", and the more-known "life of an entertainer" and "into the future". rell had some heavy hitters supporting him (awesome two, cutmaster dc) so he definitely wasn't that bad an mc.
mc stezo mc rell yz are a few rappers that got slept on -- look for "champion of love" another rare rap song and peep ou too poetic who eventually joined rza in gravediggas

BDK's "Another Victory" is another song I played to death.
If I had a tape deck in my car I'd still play it.

Yo Rell was kind of slept on in his era, but I think his label dropped the ball in terms of knowing what to do with him.
