  • I <3 Indians!

  • This makes me feel like im in a carnival but I love it <33

  • which key is this song in? and is it also in 4-4?

  • @JOLLYJOEY101 Ups. Hahah

  • i love julian

  • I don't know why, I know it's not supposed to be humorous and that the lyrics are more profound than that, but I always find funny the fact that he's saying like 7 times in a row "I've got nothing to say", as if it was just music and he didn't knew what lyrics to put with it XD

  • Responder a este vídeo... Who knows... Maybe we're all overthinking about the lyrics. Maybe it was pure randomness! Hahah.

  • @coisinhasbanais He's melting his 'celebrity' image to a human we're more easily able to relate with. It does fit the well to say the least. :)

    "Don't be a coconut,"

"God is trying to talk to you"

    Don't be thick/hard headed

"...that's for other bands to do"

  • I never have anything to say. I really have a problem with people and especially with girls. What do?

  • @TheCat86 I hope that you didn't interpret this song as if he has "problems talking to people". Its much more that that.

  • @coisinhasbanais How would you know?

  • @Clobberella1 I'm assuming that you're responding to this comment: " I hope that you didn't interpret this song as if he has "problems talking to people". Its much more that that.". Yeah, probably i shoundn't just assume that, but knowing Julian Casablancas writing style I'm shure this is not just about being shy.

  • this song pretty much sums up my life!

  • my comment? I've got nothing to say

  • this should have been the song they played on the tesla coils in the sorcerors apprentice -.-

  • probably one of the most saddest song from the strokes.

  • STROKES = QUALITY

  • i go to youtube to listen to one stroke song, and i end up listening to EVERY SINGLE SONG FOR HOURS!!

  • @Gemster618 guess im not the only one anymore :)

  • i dunno how they're doing it but i'm lovin the orchestral string sections on this- sounds like a backwards cello droning throughout the song.

  • the

  • love the minimalistic cd cover.

  • this song reminds me of lou reed

  • @osho420k

I thought the same exact same thing

  • @osho420k lol?

  • You can ask sb you love anything? But i guess he's got nothing to say...

  • This is by far the most under-rated Strokes song.

  • HE SOUNDS LIKE A TEXAS GOD ...REALLY ENTERS THE BRAIN THIS ONE LOL GOOD FUNERAL SONG AS IM GONNA GO FUCKING END IT..BAD JOKE

  • It took me a wile to realize how good this song is. And his voice is so deep and nice omg.

  • Lol some people call me a coconut.

  • haha dont be a coconut

  • every time i hear this i just want to cry. If there was one song to describe me it would be this one.

  • @ImaGipC emo? lol

  • @BLACKHILLSstudio In all human race, emos are the only ones who cry when listening to a song...right?

  • @coisinhasbanais I don't think it's only emos or whatever .. people cry when they listen to music for many reasons one is cause they can relate to them and it makes them feel like they arn't the only one that feels that way..yanno what i mean?

  • @DrPepper1234511 Me too. I was not the one who said "emo?", it was @BLACKHILLStudio

  • @coisinhasbanais Nah.It's cool i was just puttin that out there lol yanno ?

  • @coisinhasbanais Ah ok...just for the record, when i said "In all human race, emos are the only ones who cry when listening to a song...right?" I was being ironic. haha

  • Giving me chills, I love it. Beautifulmess, thankyou the strokes

  • sounds like Beirut. Both are great.

  • I've got nothing to say...

  • This song is so incredibly beautiful! And yet so underrated. Its the most perfect song in the world to me... <3 The Strokes

  • My favourite thing in the world is get incredibly high in the comfort of my room and listen to The Strokes.

  • I always hear people specifically saying shit about this song. I myself find this song beautiful.

  • It's killing me that this isn't on my ipod.

  • @GlutenFreePasta dvd video soft free youtube to mp3 converter. nuf said

  • @coisinhasbanais That would work if when I hooked up my ipod all my music wouldn't get deleted :c

    Someday, though.

  • @coisinhasbanais but the Strokes are so awesome that I feel bad if I don't pay them

  • strokes are grand

  • I've got nothing to say

    I've got nothing to say

    I've got nothing to say

    I've got nothing to say

    I've got nothing to say

Normally, this would bother me if any other band did such thing.

    But it's beautiful.

  • @smallbimbo "That's for other bands to do" :D

  • is SAD.

  • No where else on the internet can you find this many people arguing over the meaning of the word coconut. At this point I don't even want to know the meaning, the fact that one person has thousands of people, from fans to snob critics, scratching their heads and saying "wtf does he mean by don't be a coconut?" is, IMO, bloody brilliant

  • in an interview jjjulian said his mom used to say dont be a coconut. im gonna say that to my children.

  • don't be a coconut for me is to not hide whats inside...

lyrics meaning is a very interesting stuf!!

  • I fricken love this song.

  • This song is so cool.....<3

  • is that nick at end?

  • WHEN HES SAYING "DONT BE A COCONUT" I THINK HE MEANS "DONT HAVE SUCH A THICK SKULL" WHICH MEANS "DONT BE SO HARD HEADED" WHICH MEANS "DONT BE SUCH A STUBBORN SONUVABITCH"

  • @jakekarlson actually nope

julian said in a interview his mom always said that to him and he really doesnt know what it means either. just saying.

  • @mychickenpoped what interview is that? If you remember of course.

  • @myscenario just search for "Julian casablancas interview 2006 montreal"

  • @jakekarlson Julians mom called him that..really.

  • @OSV2536 Yes

  • @jakekarlson julian said his mom used to say that

  • @jakekarlson Who cares? It's about the music, not the lyrics. Everyone is getting caught up over these stupid lyrics and it's ruining a perfectly good song.

  • @jakekarlson OK THANKS FOR THAT EXPLANATION

  • @LyricalWax YOUR WELCOME 125 PEOPLE REALLY ENJOYED IT AS WELL. I MEAN HOW MANY VIDEOS DO YOU SEE WITH 125 THUMBS UP? SERIOUSLY? MAN I RULE

  • @jakekarlson I WAS TALKING ABOUT THE CAPS LOCK.

  • Comment removed

  • @jakekarlson he said in an interview it was something his mom has always said.

  • @animalgal999 I guess to sum it up it is a song about the true essency of nihilism. Is is a way of saying "I don't give a fuck' but in truth he gives indeed a fuck, reaching a level of apathy, depression, and living by 'animal reflex" ("I will kill to survive/ I got nothing to hide)) caused by the awareness that life has no importante purpuse whatsoever. Most of the fans don't like the repetition of the line "I've got nothing to say". I find it quite briliant.

  • @coisinhasbanais um....i think you just did a description of living. very brilliant.

  • @thousandsofangels Thank you!

  • @coisinhasbanais apt analysis

  • OMG! i found it! this is the song of the commercial that i uplouded :D

  • the first time i heard this song i thought he was just going to say i've got nothing to say for 3 minutes. would've been a better song

  • Comment removed

  • This is my favorite Strokes song.

  • @PhxPride1 dude, i was sitting in class listening to that lyric and i was like, "well what the fuck does that mean?"

  • @doooodepic I love this song!

From yahoo, "A coconut has a thick hard shell that is hard to break so that would make you hard-headed or stubborn.

Or a coconut has no brain, it could mean don't be stupid."

  • @PhxPride1 the first explanation is correct, i m french and this is a common expression in my country.

  • @doooodepic And just for curiosity it was something Julian's mom used to say to him.

  • Such an awesome album!

  • I heard this song from one of Alex Evans videos and I LOVED IT! I was freaking out like WHATS IT CALLED WHATS IT CALLED?

I didnt even look in the description kuz it had the song in there haha i feel so smart XD

  • @animalgal999 when you get this song from itunes and put it to the ipod it will have the lyrics

  • waw. . . I've got nothing to say, this song is breathtakin'

  • I mean, coconut is often used to describe the head, soooo, you know, thick headed. :] iz just me. I think I understand the lyrics...mostly.

  • I think that "Don't be a coconut/God is trying to talk to you" means...don't be so hard, God is trying to talk to you, so realize and listen. D: Maybe.

  • metaphorical coconut!

"dude, we're at a party...stop being so quiet with nothing to say...like a coconut."

  • @ThinCrustPizza67 Hahah "like a coconut" is a simile. Quick English lesson.

  • I've got nothing to say about this song. Words can't explain how amazing it is.

  • Jules's mom used to say "Don't be a coconut". Julian Casablancas is half Hispanic and half white, putting him into the racial subtype of "Coconut". Other than that he's got nothing to say.

  • @HappyTimeIrish you genius!!!!

  • @animalgal999

Yea same, but it supposed to be like deep and hidden(?)

    try listening to another songs.

  • I really like this band, but is it me or the lyrics seems really RANDOM and WEIRD 0.o

  • I just found out about this band and it's really awesome!

can i get their songs on itunes or frostwire?

    If not than where?

  • @honorship Yeah all their albums are on iTunes and their new album comes out March 21 in Europe, and March 22 in US.

  • @ConfidentPickle What kind of a dipshit buys music?

  • @ConfidentPickle

    damn too long! :P

  • @EllieLopez09:

    YOUR A FUCKING IDIOT! :)

  • Hostile Indians, we've named a summer camp for you....

Pretty screwed up if you think about it. Imagine if YOU were an Indian, your land was taken, women raped, people killed and the ones who did it had the testicular fortitude to name a childrens summer camp after your tribe...

  • NAR THIS SONG IS CLASS

  • Thumbs up if slappayurface brought you here

  • @CazzumTech -_-' shut up.

  • it means don't be so hard headed....be more open

  • Love it :3

  • I like the electronic cello, it makes the song sound more...electronic, and it gives it that awkward feel that we all get when we've, "got nothing to say."

  • This song is so good, and it sounds amazing. The chorus is annoying though. They should have changed that...

  • 'Don't Be A Cocunet, God Is Trying To Talk To You.'

    Very Powerful In My Opinion.

  • This album is really starting to grow on me, at first I was like "ehhhhh" now I'm like "yeeeeeeeh!"

  • Man I play cello, they should have asked me to play for them, so they didn't have to use that electronic cello thing.

  • @MoontouchedOwlBeast Yep, it's pretty lousy. But I'd bet it's what they were looking for, really.

  • @MoontouchedOwlBeast interestingly i never thought about this song to be a trashy chello rip-off. go mellotron!

  • @animalgal999 maybe he's saying dont just hang there lol.... ummmm like do something about it instead of just hanging there from a tree....... lol...

  • I think this song is about the average person. We're not rich or famous. We're unknown and we've got "nothing to say". We'd like to get the "lead part" and be famous, but "that's for other bands to do". We just live to survive, we don't contribute to society, we "don't have anything to give", "got no reason to live". Maybe if we weren't so shy, we could do something.

  • Harmless children,

We named our soldiers after you

    Don't be a coconut,

God is trying to talk to you

  • This song is amazing.

Julian Casablancas doesn't even have to ask.

  • God is trying to talk to you.

  • dont be a coconut!

  • I melt when i listen to him...

  • introvert, woo

  • Julien, if you've got nothin' to say, then how are you saying that you've got nothing to say? O_o

  • Fucking sick tune!! Love it!

  • How could I possibly be a coconut Julian? That's physically impossible. xD!

  • @wildarmschild haha XD nice :)

  • @fadoodle100 (:

  • esta genial esta cancion, y mas cuando no tienes nada que hacer....

  • Anyone heard of Allmusic Guide, or Wikipedia? It clearly defines them..oh and also Rate Your Music...but yeah, let's avoid all that and conclude false conclusions.

  • @ratbag1994 I do enjoy it.... and its not

  • ratbag dude is right

  • found this band cause alex evans vid

  • why people don't like this song? it's totally great ! :D

  • @animalgal999 I think he's saying don't be hard headed, you know like keeping an open mind

  • @tubeyouitsaccount Oh, that makes sense. Still, it makes you wonder ;)

    Thanks!

  • you know what they say though....

you are what you eat (a coconut in this sit.)

    O.o lmfao, i like coconut ;)

  • I hear a lot of magnetic fields male singer in julian, could just be the low crooning. not just this song but this one especially. also there both from new york. does anyone hear that?

  • I've got nothing to give

I've got no reason to live

  • i noticed i never posted a comment on this vid so i am now. I LOVE THIS SONG AND THE STROKES! :D

  • God, I love this song. Obviously, my favorite lyric is "Don't be a coconut" 'cause it's funny. :)

  • I will delete all comments about nonsense such as this one. I don't care if it is not polite.

  • Ok yah, you are immature. I was trying to be polite and show you another side of things, but whatever. You can go on with your close-minded, two year old ways. I don't care. Good luck in life with the way you are now, but you should start listening to people when they have good advice, or an answer to your question, because if you don't, you'll be in the dark. Delete this comment, I honestly don't care. I'mjust trying to help you become a better person. You don't know Alex Evans, so shut up!

  • I just love people who take the internet so seriously that they think they know people from what they write in it. That's just hilarious. But hey, I don't give a fuck. I love music, and my channel is about one of the best indie bands of owr time, not about some emo teen that is famous just because...well, because he is famous. That's too superficial for The Strokes.

  • I choose not to be polite on the internet. And I didn't judge or attack anyone , I just don't think that kid is relevant here, just because he likes this song. It's just like Muse and twilight: muse were a conceptualized band before that...movie, but people now know them because they are on twilight soundtrack. It wasn't the movie who created Muse and it wasn't Alex Eavens who wrote Ask Me Anything. (I guess the question here is, wtf does he actual do, but...yeah) I hope you get this comparison.

  • Oh yeah! I totally agree with you. I loved Mutemath before Twilight went and ruined that. Now I can't go watch a Mutemath video without someone all like, OMG VAMPS ARE HOT! And you're like WTF? I loved Taylor Lautner before he was Jacob (when he was Sharkboy) and now everyone who didn't know about him before is freaking out and it pisses me off. So yes, I understand completely where you are coming from! Oh and Alex is a model in Canada and he has a great clothing line :D That's about it! lol.

  • @coisinhasbanais wow you guys are cool. haha i can read the dictionary too. geez chill and lissen to the music

  • @SmileForPink They're not Indie......
