fine tribute to Mallory..the determination and courage is etched in his face.I think he made the top and died on the descent. He always said the descent was the worst.
It is my contention that divine providence chose Edmund Hillary - Tenzing Norgay to be credited with climbing Mt. Everest first due to the fact that George Mallory-Andrew Irvine would not have been even a 10th the humanitarians that Hillary-Norgay became. Mallory-Irvine, though brave and courageous, were nonetheless arrogant men.
Thanks for sharing this MrParsons. I was watching a documentary about the tragic 1936 Eiger attempt by Hinterstoisser, Kurz, Angerer and Rainer and thinking of your poem as I did...it fit perfectly. Well done.
he was last seen just below the peak of everest but his body was found way below. reason? he probably reached the top and then die while trying to descent. And the reason why Ruth's photo was not found is probably sir hillary took in when he reached the peak. you never know guys. i believe george was the first person who conquered mount everest
A few of my personal views: He made it to the top. The photo blew away or was covered in the monsoon. His body is now a statue and memorial which is supposed to inspire climbers when they pass it. Everest is now his headstone.
Thank you for those generous words and your appreciation. I hear the word 'awesome' used to describe all kinds of mediocrity, and once,I even heard people talking of 'world-class car parks' (true). But then, of course, I learn of people like Mallory and Irvine and things appear in perspective.
George and Andrew are heroes and I hope that there will be a new search on Everest in 2011, this to find Andrew Irvine and the camera that is still missing. Thank you for your sharred footage.
No, it's a poem I wrote a few years ago after seeing a documentary about the discovery of Mallory on Everest, and specifically the look on his face (taken from the 'still' group photo). Glad you liked it.
MrFrankParsons - wow, way cool poem! I love the music in this. Can you tell me anything about it? Oh man, it sounds awesome - what instrument is that (sorry I'm an idiot). 3:55 am Feb. 21 2010
Basically, it's just a few notes on a keyboard. I think I had it set on 'Violin'. I didn't want to be pompous, but I wanted to do as 'right' as I could for a tribute to brave people and the music came fairly spontaneously. I believe it works better than complicated multi tracks and I didn't want to distract attention from the subject matter.
MrFrankParsons - well, as they say "I know nothing about art, but I know what I like". And a fine tribute it is. I found the music very moving - a perfect fit. Thanks for posting. Bye. 1:17 pm Feb. 21 2010

Thank you for your appreciation. I keep thinking about extending the music as I can imagine just that, but I can't change the poem.

It's something I made up via an electronic keyboard and thought it suitable. Thank you for the compliment and I'm glad you liked it.

How different the world would be today if people had the tenacity , courage and sprit of audacity that these men had.
Brave men committed to determination.
