They're both amazing good players... So if Kobe's one of the best now then what's the issue? you can never compare mj to kobe as well as kobe to mj, coz kobe is a good player but jordan is a team leader. hey have their own stenght and weaknesses...but for me if i were to choose if i am given the chance to be a player. id rather choose mj.
A little off-topic but... IMO Kobe is better than LeBron. Don't get me wrong, LeBron is an amazing player but the playoffs last year showed that he isn't able to carry his team and make them better. Granted, he's still young and they double-/tripleteamed him making him uneffective, but Kobe has always been able to handle the pressure and overperform.
People forget that in MJ's day NBA had very different rules than it has today. You could make physical contact when defending (remember Jordan vs. the Pistons). Today, in KB's day, when you make even the slightest physical contant you get an immidiate foul call. Because of this, pure finishers like KB thrive. If KB had played in MJ's time, he probably would only make 3/4 of the FGs he makes today. So keep this in mind when you compare FGs made.
There is no answer to this question really. Why? Because they had different roles in their times. Yes, both were (KB still is) scorers, but KB is a pure finisher while MJ was an all-round player and a leader. I guess it boils down to deeper than FGs made, and, to me, MJ is better because he had a better attidude towards the game than KB has.
But isn't Kobe an all-around player too? some argue that he is the complete package because not only does he do it on the offensive end, but he is the type that works hard on defense too. I'm not saying he's the best. Just wondering your thoughts.
Well it cannot be denied that Kobe is one of the top players of all time. However, I think it is universally acknowledged that he has (or has had) a bad attidude towards the game. People have said he is selfish and that he only cares about scoring (rememeber the feud between him and Karl Malone). Kobe does D up, but to me he isn't a team leader and a player who does it everywhere in the court like MJ did or players like AI do. Of course I may be biased here since I've never really liked KB.
I think he's changed all of that this year. He basically is the Lakers. I've never heard him to have a bad attitude about the game. It's probably the opposite. He did have a bad disposition to the media however. He is the closest to Jordan anyone is going to get. Remeber that he's averaging about the same amount of assists per game as Jordan.
Also, AI has never been the defensive force Kobe or Jordan were.
Yeah I agree with AKFrazier. Kobe may or may not be the best, but he plays the game with passion. In the past, he did hog the ball a lot, but this season, he is finally understanding that a championship can only won if he shares the basketball. The trade of Pau Gasol REALLY fueled this. And once, Andrew Bynum comes back, I think the Lakers are unstoppable.
A sidenote about AI... Obviously he cannot be a defensive force, as such, because of his size. However, AI is one of the best stealers of all time and isn't that ability an important part of an excellent defender.

Is everyone on here really young or something? Michael Jordan is better than Kobe, but Kobe is the best right now. I like them both, but this isn't even up for debate... anyone with real basketball knowledge will tell you that Jordan is still considered the greatest to ever play the game. Kobe will probably be second once done... 81 points was definitely great, but was at home against a bad team with no defense. Jordan scored 63, on the road, against a championship team, in the PLAYOFFS!

The only reason that Kobe hasn't won MVP awards isn't that he hasn't earned them, it is that he is hated by the people who vote on them. Kobe is just as clutch as MJ. He is a way better offensive player than MJ ever was, He has been on the all defensive team almost every year. And this year he has lead his team to one of the best records in the NBA. A little off-topic but... IMO Kobe is better than LeBron. Don't get me wrong, LeBron is an amazing player but the playoffs last year showed that he isn't able to carry his team and make them better. Granted, he's still young and they double-/tripleteamed him making him uneffective, but Kobe has always been able to handle the pressure and overperform.

People forget that in MJ's day NBA had very different rules than it has today. You could make physical contact when defending (remember Jordan vs. the Pistons). Today, in KB's day, when you make even the slightest physical contant you get an immidiate foul call. Because of this, pure finishers like KB thrive. If KB had played in MJ's time, he probably would only make 3/4 of the FGs he makes today. So keep this in mind when you compare FGs made.

There is no answer to this question really. Why? Because they had different roles in their times. Yes, both were (KB still is) scorers, but KB is a pure finisher while MJ was an all-round player and a leader. I guess it boils down to deeper than FGs made, and, to me, MJ is better because he had a better attidude towards the game than KB has.

Well it cannot be denied that Kobe is one of the top players of all time. However, I think it is universally acknowledged that he has (or has had) a bad attidude towards the game. People have said he is selfish and that he only cares about scoring (rememeber the feud between him and Karl Malone). Kobe does D up, but to me he isn't a team leader and a player who does it everywhere in the court like MJ did or players like AI do. Of course I may be biased here since I've never really liked KB.

I think he's changed all of that this year. He basically is the Lakers. I've never heard him to have a bad attitude about the game. It's probably the opposite. He did have a bad disposition to the media however. He is the closest to Jordan anyone is going to get. Remeber that he's averaging about the same amount of assists per game as Jordan.
Also, AI has never been the defensive force Kobe or Jordan were.

Yeah I agree with AKFrazier. Kobe may or may not be the best, but he plays the game with passion. In the past, he did hog the ball a lot, but this season, he is finally understanding that a championship can only won if he shares the basketball. The trade of Pau Gasol REALLY fueled this. And once, Andrew Bynum comes back, I think the Lakers are unstoppable.
