*continued from previous comment* It's a good thing I don't use my blank VHS tapes to record because I fear it'll malfunction too. It's also not very good to record any gameplays because the speed gets pretty much out of sync...
*continued from previous comment* After the self-check on the disk failed, it ejects out the disk, but then I have to clean it out (even though the disk was already cleaned) and put it back in for another self-check. After the self-check was completed, I end up getting the DVD disk error that says, "This disc is incompatiable." I'm getting rid of it next month as I have checked the label and it was unfixable! *continued on next comment*
Trust me, you're not the only one who has a problem with a shoddy Panasonic Recorder DMR-EZ48V unit. I've had this unit around 2009 and I truly regret using it to record shows with my DVD disk. It started malfunctioning while I was recording "Willa's Wild Life" around 8:30a.m. which caused it to display the error message: "There might be a problem with the disk". I let it do the self-check, but it somehow failed. *continued on next comment*
I have one of these and of all problems when I try to use the remote it gives me this RC1 message on the display. I've tried resetting, unplugging, everything.
I ''had'' one of these! what a load of shite. It went straight in the bin as i would have felt guilty selling it to anyone! If dubbing from DVD to VHS, yes DVD to VHS it puts a severe macrovision on the tape so that it wont play at all in other players! It only accepts DVD minus R's, is fussy with certain types of discs and the VHS flap fell off! The restrictions on these machines are so severe it makes me wonder why we ever bought this cheep'n'nasty japanese plastic crap in the first place.
I had a PANASONIC VHS player/recorder a few years ago; costed me ~ $350 - it broke down after ~ 18 months or so.
A friend of mine has DMR-EZ48V DVDF-VHS recorder and it broke down after ~ 2 years.
MY ADVICE: stay away from ANY PANASONIC electronics gear - they manufacture JUNK; they use cheap parts and they do NOT care that your item will break down. The days that Panasonic stand for top quality are gone for good.
I personally will never ever buy Panasonic or Mitsushita item !!!
Bought primarely for the digital tuner since my other VHS units were only analog. I don't have cable tv since i watch mostly DVDs and VHS movies. Its HDMI THX cable connected so watching free HD channels on my 42" LCD tv is excellent.
I bought one last year and to this date has performed "flawless" Its connected to my 7.1 channel Sony reciever. Its plays all my pre-recorded VHS tapes and recorded tapes nicely and clearly. I transfered some VHS to DVD with nice results. Plays DVDs with awesome picture quality and sound. I very happy with my Panasonic DMR-EZ48V. Nothings really made perfect so possibly there was some problems with some but i know a few other people that has same model and no issues.
I have a Daewoo video/DVD recorder which works ok but seems to be putting 'macro pulses' on my tapes! My tapes have always played ok in an old 80's video player, i then play a tape in the Daewoo all is still well but on taking the tape out and playing it back in the old 80's VCR it skips and twitches all over the place up to the point where i ejected the tape from the Daewoo! Now my tapes will only play ok in the Daewoo and nothing else.Copying to another vcr gives the same efect. WTF!
OMG I KNOW!! It's a little late on this issue but my grandparents have an older VCR/DVD Player from Panasonic and it sucks! It will play a tape but the tv tuner is only producing audio and no video! The dvd makes a whooshing and hissing sound when it is played no matter what i do! TO everyone who bothered to read this...PANASONIC DVD/VCRs SUCK!!
I've got a UK PAL I version of this machine with built-in Freeview tuner and it's largely been OK;there was a brief short lived technical problem with a unstable LP recorded widescreen 16:9 picture in LP playback and an unacceptable unstable recorded EP playback picture, but i've done loads of VHS copying up to now and it more or less righted itself within the period of my copying with good LP pictures and reasonable EP pictures at last! Must have been an all or nothing fault!
Untill about 5/6 years ago, (p)anasonic had a peerless reputation for build quality and RELIABILITY. What went wrong? Chinese production lines and cost-cutting in out sourcing of components I believe. Several purchases of mine have went tits up shortly after the expiry of standard guarantee periods. Their dvd recorders are now particulary prone to give problems. I speak from (bad) experience friends. It's a shame, given the company's former good rep.
My DMR-ES15 did something similar, the video was straight from the ATSC converter box (which was fine when connected directly) while the DVD recorder was recording, but the color was messed up on both the DVD and the video output as seen on the TV. Eventually, the ES15's video output stopped altogether. Total piece of crap. Panasonic equipment has dropped to throwaway status and their customer reps know it.
I am an electronics technician/engineer. I have worked with VHS design and service since 1977. I have worked for major manufacturers such as Philips and GTE Sylvania. The Panasonic DMR EZ48V is absolutely the worst piece of consumer electronics that I have ever seen. The design is horrible. Stay away from this POS at all costs...Matshushita, shame on you for putting your name on this.. I will not support you anymore.
I also wanted to mention, that even if all that stuff works its likely to break. After 8 months of use my Panasonic VCR/DVDR combo broke. Everything, but the burner works. They just don't make these things like they used to.
"Incompatible", sorry, I misspelled that word.

It was not a tracking issue. Checked that! Thanks.

I also use my Panasonic DMR-EZ48V to transfer my digital DTC tapes to record on DVD and for viewing DTC tapes. Works nicely.

Anti-piracy is not an issue. It's a personal tape.

copy protection?
vinto34 2 years ago
Nope. Not a copy-protected tape. It was a homemade tape.
LauderdaleObserver 2 years ago
Nope. It was broken. After raising sufficient hell, I got my refund. Shame on Panasonic for putting me through all that. They've broken our bond!
Piece of garbage, that machine. Watch the videos carefully. I took steps to ensure that it was the machine, not the tape.
