  • Bellisimo!!! Please post names other singers!

  • Che bellissima musica ! One of my absolute favorite pieces that Maestro Verdi ever composed.Carreras sound superb here. But does anyone out there know who the soprano, baritone and mezzo were in this 1973 performance ? Mille grazie inmylife9 for sharing this wonderful piece with us opera lovers.

  • Carreras sang 2 performances of Rigoletto at New York City Opera in March-April 1973, and this may have come from one of them. If so, the cast would be Patricia Wise (S), Margaret Yauger (M) and Louis Quiico (B). The other performance had Susanne Marsee (M) and Vasile Martinoiu (B), but the Maddalena does not sound like Marsee to me. My cast source is the New York City Opera Annals.

  • an exceptional recording by carreras. for 2 other great recordings of carreras when he was still in good voice. see "jose carreras before the fall" and "jose carreras before the fall 2" equally amazing. =)

  • Actually this is not a aria...This is a quartetto with 4 singers...Rigoletto has a three arias for a tenor,duett and this quartett also...Great singers all !

  • Cuando canta Carreras no se admiten criticas,ES UN GENIO Y ES INSUPERABLE !!!!!

  • I have never heard this, beautiful...

  • Brilliant! And is it just me or does Jose look like Marlon Brando in this picture?

  • You're right, he does look like Marlon Brando here...

  • @Englishtenor2

he is my favourite always of the three tenors its just the intensity of his personality that gives him the edge I think He always has to put twice the effort into his performance then anyone else I rate him up there with Caruso he does indeed look like a young Brando and also very like Montgomery Clift if you remember him from the Misfits

  • @tangodancer1000

Vintage Carreras, s-o good! And could I suggest a touch of James Mason as well?

  • @Englishtenor2 He does a bit. God, if Marlon Brando could sing like this,.... He'd have knocked Frank Sinatra out for the count in Guys and Dolls.

  • @Englishtenor2

    It's just you...

  • Always my favorite!

  • Looks like I'm the first one on this! What a treat this is, thanks for posting! Carreras sounds wonderful, of course, such a ringing and exquisitely beautiful voice, and amazingly dark even in his youth. Who is the soprano?
