Perle was shot down pretty hard here. He could have better defined the terrorism he most objects to here or at least tried to draw a definable distinction becasue Chomsky was well prepared to pull down the blanket.
Perle is an utter imbecile. To the British government, George Washington was a terrorist. He would have been hanged had the colonies lost the war. Perle has a winner is always right philosophy which basically equates to a 'might means right' stance. It really explains why he seems to see no inherent problems in US foreign policy. He never even acknowledges that there could be the possibility of negative consequences from it. He's either a pyschotic liar or just very dense.
As far as I can tell, the only difference between the deaths of Israel and Palestine is that the Palestinians are desperate so they commit vile acts that are obviously terrorist. Israel, however, bombs an area, kills more Palestinians, then claims they were aiming at something else.
Neither side has any moral highground in that little skermish.
All because some old book says they have to set up shop there. Couldn't we just give them part of Alabama?
@TBlake34 "Neither side has any moral highground" is basically the hardest thing to get across to partisans in any conflict as heated and emotional as Israel/Palestine, US/Iraq/Afghanistan/Latin America, etc. It's infuriating how people will hear intellectuals asking for a higher moral standard on the part of the country that claims to be in the objective "right" on an issue, and then assume they don't similarly denounce atrocities committed by the other side.
"The Prince of Darkness" basically said "no mas" half way through this debate. He was likely staring at his watch for the last half hour or so. Agree with him or not, and it seems much of what he is saying is true though I will not claim to be any sort of authority on Israeli/Latin American history; Chomsky is a genius with a photographic memory. I can barely remember what day of the week it is while Chomsky is a walking encyclopedia of nearly every document/historical event of the 20th century.
Perle would not need a team. All that he offers is rebuke--distorting, and systematically lying in support of the American state. To suggest that captains of industry have no role in the formulation of policy is a lie.
Did Noam Chomsky ever loose? This guy is just shitting on everyone in every discussion. Really changed my worldview and in 200 years(if we still exist) people will look back at the great wisdom of Chomsky.
@emiljanowicz I disagree. Chomsky tells us to go out and gain knowledge ourselves. To accept what he says as true is little better than to accept what anybody else as true. He is very knowledgeable and ethically appealing, but I think to venerate him is to miss the point entirely. The point is not to BELIEVE what he says, rather to EXAMINE it.

@Cosbibi He was pretty humiliated over his views on Cambodia and Laos in the late 70's. Please read "After the Cataclysm." Perle is an easy opponent to beat.
@Cosbibi Not that I've seen. And I've seen dozens and dozens of Chomsky debates/interviews. He really will be one regarded as one of the great geniuses of all time at some point.
Mr. Perle, when we strike a *suspected* terrorist from 400 miles away, with laser guided missles and kill 7 other innocent bystanders, including children, is this terrorism?
I think it is.
We are the only "free" country based on a legal system that declares a man innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, that is pronouncing a death sentence on people from over 400 miles away.
The difference between the public pronouncements of governments and their actual actions is stark. Chomsky takes the trouble to seek out the gap between the two and reveal it to us. He is meticulous and courageous. So large is tha gap that many spoon fed commentators are outraged at his expression of the truth. They simply don't recognise it. They are blind to the reality of US foreign policy ...or worse, they don't care. If a 'gook' or 'rag-head' or 'spic' is killed, they think it acceptable.
I used to be really disturbed by the far Left, they were always so strident, and so wrong. I thought that they might actually gain some real political power in the US. Then I realized with comfort and satisfaction that these Marxist lefties are almost never elected to any office in government. That's why the moderate left distances themselves from this nonsense; they want to be taken seriously and thereby elected to office.
After Chomsky's recitation of terrorist acts committed by the United States and other world powers, Perle is given an opportunity to respond. His response? "I don't have anything to add to that." Surely, this is the raising of the white flag.
Intellectual dwarf. But even if he was of genius stature, he couldn't have mustered the facts to counter Chomsky's exposition. Those facts just don't exist. He's saving his energies for the closing statement, that rosy one. 'Look around you, is that the world as you see it?' Pitiful. Ignore the documents, the facts, the record, the analysis. Live in your nice bubble. Bad Professor Chomsky is trying to wreck your peace of mind and sanity. Go away, Chomsky! Leave us to our illusions!
The best part is that he is the best genius they could come up with... When you go up against Noam Chomsky, and Noam Chomsky is RIGHT, not even Noam Chomsky could win...
Hahaha brilliant comment. Actually i'm sure Perle is an extremely effective debater, the fact is that regardless of the statistics that either could possibly use, Chomsky has the truth behind him and Perle's job is to defend the indefencible. That's why Chomsky beats the living shit out of him. Though I must admit he does it with stunningly impressive precision and intellect. Its a fucking assassination. Quality.
He doesn't really need to. His views represent status quo dogma, so people who want to believe him are ready to. He just sits back and tries to convince people that the mean man saying bad things about America is unserious or delusional with weak ad hominem attacks, lacking the facts to back up his arguments because they simply don't exist. If something wasn't reported in the mainstream, he can simply say "Well, I never heard of that. It's ludicrous."
Finally the US has found a competition it has a chance of winning. No chance of winning the award for Best Healthcare or Best Free Press, but the award for Best Terrorist State IS something we can aspire to.
He probably did not know this was coming. More so Like Reagan, where on occasions he would be asked about government anounced policies and did not know what they were.

If "shock and awe" wasn't terrorism the word is meaningless.

The gist of Perle's comments.....nuh uh!
Perle is little more than an apologist for corporate greed and militarism.
He ought to be hanged for treason....after a fair trial of course.

Deluded One.
I gave you a few days to come up with a better argument against America, you failed again.
If you keep reading Chomsky, that painful feeling of losing arguments with democratic capitalists actually gets worse! Smarten Up!

Noam Chomsky is a Propagandist. He has the right to be one. He has three very prominent supporters:
1. Hugo Chavez. (would-be dictator)
2. Fidel Castro. (Communist dictator)
3. Osama Bin Laden. (Al-Qaeda fanatic)
Yesterday's failures: Trotskyites.
Today's new-and-improved failures: Chomskyites!

You said this before. It's not nearly so clever as you think.

He knew he had no answer so why invite some more verbal ass-kicking from Chomsky?
