@admiralfaffy the C96 is a not the fully automatic version. its semi automatic only.
also, owning the fully automatic model would not only be very expensive for the firearm itself but also require a federal tax stamp which costs $200 as well as federal background check and lots of other rigmarole that can take anywhere from a month to half a year before you can get your firearm.
that is, if i was right in assuming you wanted to own one yourself.
I just got a C96, It's in pieces and i've never worked on anything this old before. I want to get someone to look at it that knows more about the weapon. If anyone knows more about this weapon as far as assembly goes then i'd be greatly appreciated if you would get in contact with me. Thanks.
Seeing this in Sherlock Holmes has me wanting one! To own such a novel firearm from the incredibly mechanically revolutionary Victorian Era would awesome.
@MistrEgg according to wiki the Mauser C-96 was created in 1896, and Sherlock Holmes went to 1905...so it's unlikely, possible. But with the Guy Ritchie over-the-top action directing I know what ya mean ...too much absurditly to the story and not enough mystery/plot development.
You can see at 0:58 the base of his thumb has been hurt by c96's hammer. I also own a c-96, when that hammer slaps ur thumb it will be sore for days!!!
Yeah, hammer bites can be nasty. I've never had one myself, but I've heard of people getting them from guns like these, and early Browning Hi Power models.
Personally, if I had this gun (and I wish I did), I would like to fashion my own grips, with a beavertail on them.
I wouldn't replace the original ones, I would switch between them.
19 million+ companies make 1911's and we can't make a modern C-96 pattern of firearm chambered in 9mm, 40, .22, etc.? Come on. I'd love to own one of these.
@drewnwalker As long as the modified the design somewhat; for instance, a nice box magazine instead of that weird top loader (then you could get a helluva lot more rounds in it) and maybe update the bolt some. Other than that, it is a sweet little pistol.
@cammike10 The difference betwenn those two models are that the normal C96 fires semi auto and the the M172 fires full auto. Early C96s were loaded via stripper clips into the magazine. The model 1930 had already changeable mags and the last model, the model 1932 was able to fire fully automatic. The production ended in 1936 but those pistols were used till 1945 in the Wehrmacht, especially the model 1932, wich was able to fire full auto, was used in Waffen-SS-units like the Division Brandenburg
@FlipectMaster There were 2 "variants" The Mauser C96 was a top loaded semi auto pistol. The second was the Mauser 712. The 712 was bottom fed by mag rather than stripper clip, and had a very high rate of fire. It was also referred to the "Broomhandle".
My Brother Markus Bott had been tortured during five and a half years because of our homepage and book. He was assassinated on 11.7.09 by the German BND which is the renamed GESTAPO.
Germany is a nazi state. They did not change. Whatever German snitchers tell you, they are lying for their Deutschland. Check out my channel and homepage.
@ArebearFTW he's more than likely referring to the big red 9 that was put onto the handles during WW2 (I believe) so that the users would know that it's the 9mm variant and not the other as before hand the user woad load the wrong ammo and break the gun.
I'm kinda curious here. Did the C96 have a magazine or was loaded from the top with a stripper clip? Was the gun originally semi-automatic then later versions had full-auto capabilities?
Just asking, how accurate are you a shot using that gun and only one hand? I ask because i know a guy who practices one hand trick shooting (not professional) and he says that the Mauser c-96 is a pretty accurate gun. I wouldn't know the only firearms I have are the non-existent ones.
@buckethead1144 nope. You decide what kind of gun it is by the ammo it fires, not by the style of loading. The c96 fires pistol ammo (9x19 Parabellum in this case).
a true classic, even han solo from star wars had a mauser as blaster (with some extra parts glued on to make it look futuristic) and it´s also one of the very first pistols ever, this gun earned it´s place in history, back then when it was made it was one of the most advanced high tech guns on the planet and today it´s still something very special
@ShadowBj84 it´s one of my favourite classic firearms along with the stg 44, mg42, the tommy gun (especially with the 100 shot drum mag^^), browning m2 .50 cal. machine gun and the SAA revolver to name a few^^
hmmm, well it looks to me like this isn't one of the Red 9 pistols so I'm gonna guess that it was originally a 7.63 but had the barrel blown out and restored to 9mm bored.
@LordPasschendale: uh, no, it can't, as it's a semi-automatic. the c96 model 712 schnellfeuer is the only automatic-capable variant, and even it only shoots 15 shots per second (950 rounds per minute divided by 60 seconds)
so if you're going to call someone a dumbass, A: know what you're talking about, and B: spell "dumbass" correctly.

@drewnwalker you can find them in 9mm the rim of the 7.63x25 and the 9mm are the same so a new barrel in 9mm and your good
never use 7.62x25 in a mauser its loaded way too hot for the mauser c96 and the luger (it will fit in the chamber but it will damage the gun)
