It always amazes me how people continue to write serious heartfelt comments over what is simply an adventure movie! None of this will ever happen so sit back and just enjoy the movie! My God relax!!!!!
@hint0122 yet he did. and they made another horrible movie of he's books. But he's books are kind of like the hardy boys books.read them wery young when your uncritical and naive.
good movie but this sort of thing could never happen to titanic and shouldnt because its a grave site not just a ship i think a lot of people forget that sometime
i agree. In about 5 years, scientists have made a plan to put millions of pounds of pingpong balls inside the titanic and bring to float back up in approx 2 hours. But they are still testing this plan because they are worried while the ship floats up in can disintegrate because of the bacterial rust infections all over the ship.
The pingpong ball theory has been circulating for decades. The balls will implode BEFORE they can even get to the wreck. The pressure at 12,450ft is 3 ton per square inch. Imagine a icecube, one inch square weighing 3 tons. A flimsey pingpong ball will probably remain intact until it reaches the 2,000 feet mark before popping.
this movie was based off of one of Cussler's books in which Dirk Pitt and Al Giordino are the leading protagonists i was simply asking where he was in the above production.
Ballard discovered the Titanic September 1 1985, I remember it. He returned in '86 to make the first manned submersible dives to the ship. In '85 when they were looking for the ship , Ballard, says they had video copies of this movie and the 1958 "A Night To Remember".
yeh thats what i meant, that no one believed the storys of it splitting until it was actually found in 2 peices.
i think there was reports of officers on board and first class passengers that said it didnt split and it went down intacted. hence why the old films of the titantic show it as the whole ship going down.
Even though witness accounts indicated the ship split when it sunk, they decided to keep the Titanic intact for the movie to work. The only thing that wasn't known was the condition of the wreck.
People only believe what they understood. I believed the survivors that stated the ship broke in half because who would make up such a plausible story if they've never seen it happen? Nobody ever seen a ship that size sink and long before this move was made, physics had already proven that things can break under their own weight if not properly supported. In this case the water was the support. I guess most people only believed what they wanted to hear.
Now, I dont really know if this is true or not but I heard that 3'rd class passengers that survived did say that the ship split, but first class survivers said she went down intact and people just belieed them because they were....first calss.
But when the found it in 85 people realized that she did split in 2
No, the statements were mixed and some 1st class passengers did say the ship split. The problem is that there were people who wanted to just make a statement for the press even though they did not clearly witness what happened, and it's these people that stated the ship sunk intact. Many of the lifeboats were too far away for the people to see through the dark and when the ship lights went out, it was impossible for them to see what was happening. Some lifeboats were still close by to see.

yes it was.. there were certain storylines in the book that were left out of the movie unfortunately

@wikiwuki is that obvious, all of his pop corn fiction stories make for crappy movies, this and Sahara.

Where's Dirk?
kozzy18 2 years ago
He is a fictional character that saves the spy that finds the mine were the byzanium traces were found.
Dirtboy101 2 years ago
I know he is a fictional character. @_@
kozzy18 2 years ago
Well yes but because he is in so many different of Clive Clusser's books one might think that he is non-fictional.

but surely surviour storys would have said that it split in two?
maybe they didnt blieve them, unitl it was actually found.
nikki2970 2 years ago
Robert Ballard states that he wasn't sure wether she would be intact or not. Survivor stories differ greatly.

movie was made in 1980, the titanic wasn't discovered till 1985 or was it 1986?

September 1, 1986 for the record

1985, not 1986. I still have The Toronto Sun news paper from that day.

they hadint found the wreck when this was made and they thought the witnesses might have mistaken a funnel collapsing and the ship braking in half
