I was a kid when this song first came out. I wonder how many have fallen in love with Gospel music because of the Goodmans? That love for gospel music made me want to find a church that sang that kind of music, and several years later I met Jesus as my Lord and Savior in that church! Thanks you Happy Goodman Family for helping me find the way!
This song must have been recorded while Vestal was still recovering from her Heart issues. If this album came out in 1978, that was 3 years after she recovered. Excuse me, was healed! Can anyone shed any light on this? Another interesting fact is I have heard "What a Beautiful Day" with Vestal singing on one and Johnny on the other. It seems to be the exact same song, just dubbed in voices for the 1st tenor/alto part.
Nearly all the "Happy Goodmans" (except Johnny Minnick) have gone on the reach the Heavenly portal they so faithfully sang about . Some day the Eastern sky will bring forth the King of King and bring forth the new glorified bodies of all those Saints 'asleep' in the Lord! The Goodman's certainly believe he's coming back--just like he said!! Be ready !!
I used to love to go to live concerts of the Goodmans and to hear Johnny Cook & Vestal alternate on songs like "What a Lovely Name." I'm so glad they live on through their recordings.
I can take you to the time and place where I first heard this. I had just been saved and wondered about future salvation - slavation of the body at the glorious appearing of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!
I believe he's comin' back...I believe too that I will meet the "Happy Goodman" family Southern Gospel pioneers someday. What a tremendous talent in the awesome mournful unique style of this one-of-a-kind Gospel group! The Gospel message always burst through in each and every spirit filled song!
They all may be in Heaven today, but thanks to modern technology, we can still enjoy the spirit filled messages in song that these pioneers of southern gospel forged during thier tenor here on earth!
What do you mean they are all messed up to this day? Have you been living with your head up your rectum? They've all been dead (the Goodmans) for years.....get your facts straight ding dong.
the cover of this album was awesome. If I remember, the whole family was having a picnic in a winter wonderland with snow setting. ... Anyone have that cover?
Was this ever released on CD? I grew up with the on LP. It has been played about a million times and it still holds up well, lol, But, I am sure it can't be around much longer.
Johnny had such a powerful voice. What a combination of harmony, They were made to sing together and bless people. It is a shame we have lost all of them, but they are all in heaven together. berni

I like the bridge on this song, especially with the steel. It is a great intro too. berni

The Goodman's did right when they took Johnny Cook in with them. Howard, Vestal, Sam, Rusty, & Johnny are all missed very much to this day.
