My whole family was pushed out of the 9th ward back in 1972 by numerous black families moving into their neighborhoods. They were forced to move to Chalmette. 9O% of the 9th ward was poor white people and they were forced out of their neighborhoods by the very people that are facing gentrification themselves. Now the shoe is on the other foot. Let's see how it fit's in the coming years. We in Chalmette may never again get to live in the 9th ward, but atleast we can go and visit it and be safe.

I don't think they want a "Disney-like" environment. Remember, 50 years ago New Orleans was a majority White city and it wasn't a "Disney-like" environment. I just think that Whites want to come back to the city. There's nothing wrong with that. Saying that Whites can't move into your city is RACIST. Plus the influx of Hispanics, this will probably be a mixed city; White, Hipanic, and Black. It probably won't be a majority Black city anymore. It's just the current trend around the U.S..

Emmient Domain has always been used to destroy black and other minority neighborhoods for years, all for the sake of business development. The Claiborne Ave. bridge is a perfect example. The Lower 9 is a developer's dream!
As far as Disney's concern, I've worked in the FQ when Disney held a parade for a movie released a few years ago. Bubbles coming out of the sewers! Disney's name was prominent then because of rumors of development. Nothing wrong with developing new businesses, but not at the expense of removing folks from their hoods. Katrina was the chance these poliTRICKians have been trying to do, but couldn't until now. That is destroying public housing (eminent domain).
The city probably won't be majority Black or White. It will probably be mixed some Black neighborhoods here, some White there, some Spanish there. The city was gentrified once before in the 60'and 70's when all the White people moved out after an influx of Blacks moved in the city from the country. So gentrification could come back the other way around. Both Black and White professionals will come. The ones who got money. It's not about race anymore, it's about class now.
This is just the latest trend. Whites are moving back to the cities. They want there cities back that they were ousted out of in the 60's. LOL. It's White flight again, but back to the city. They got money now and they are bringing there rich Black friends with them. So, again I believe its more about class than race. Have you noticed the big condo developments on Tulane Ave. around the jail area? It's coming. Prepare yourself to move to Jefferson Parish.
I read that the city granted a permit of 4 miles of riverfront to be redeveloped by Donald Trump Corporation and also a cruise ship line to be built on the docks in the 9th ward. Now you know there not gonna be putting a cruise ship in the 9 if its the ghetto, right? They are gonna gentrify it. But, like I said, poor blacks or poor whites won't be able to live there. Don't feel alone, the poor white people in Chalmette are suffering the same fate as you.
