These guys were so fuckin' talented! I used to watch these guys practice at 608 Louis ave. in the storage unit in Holiday Fl. Little did I know that I was in the presence of greatness! I go see Trans Siberian Orchestra every year and I still get off on the anticipation of going into the arena right before they come on. When I think, if Criss never died and was standing on the stage in a black tuxedo playing with the guys, it absolutely sends shivers down my spine! SAVATAGE still lives!
@av8rdav I'm with ya bro! The asshole toolbag that hit Criss is Garth McNamee. If you Google his name and then click on the first entry that comes up, that will take you to RS.com and there you can read the actual accident report by Florida Hwy. Patrol and a map of the accident which shows how the cars came to rest after the impact. This asshole's blood alcohol level was .294% he was so drunk he never hit his brakes. Criss seen him coming and left 79 feet of skid marks according to FHP.
@av8rdav Yes! and the toolbag motherfucker that hit him is Garth McNamee, if you google his name you will see the first entry about the accident. That link will take you to RS.com and there you can read the actual accident report from FHP. There is also a map of the accident and how the cars came to rest after impact. This peice of shit's blood alcohol level was .294% and he never new what lane he was in, Criss seen him coming but it was too late and Criss left 79 ft. of skid marks! Tragic!

True Story: Just yesterday I was drinking beer in my local metal bar. Than out of the blue they played this song. And I started headbanging like there was no tomorrow. After a couple of minutes I saw like every single one in the joint-even the fraking waiter- was headbanging to this song.
One thing is certain: It's awsomeness is indescribable!!!

This singer has great range. I recall seeing this for the first time on the Head Bangers Ball. Though they are not in the same class as Savatage, the singer from Stryper could belt them out as well.
Well, every single band out there (signed and unsigned) have their own merit, nothing can take that away. Popularity contests are for children. I heard this song the year after I graduated from High School, talk about heavy for it's time, and still is (at least to me). Great to see this video uncut and such!
I've only recently discovered Savatage, literally like a week ago, and damn where have I been. I bought the 80's heavy metal box set and the song Hall of the Mountain King was on there. Good god man, what a voice! This band freakin rocks! I believe that singer has now passed though? One of the brothers?
@theshaggyshow Can you tell me why it matters if he's liberal or conservative.... If you want to play that game why don't you tell me about Ted Bundy's political stance??
Man this shit is HEAVY. This to me was possibly the best metal band of its time. Metallica to me doesn't even come close. But then I'm just a bigger fan of Savatage
i saw this album cover before it was released steve was goin to produce my band i grew up with these guys in palm harbor fl back when they were avatar always a great bunch of guys and still are
Very sad times man I was at his funeral and sat in the front row with a bunch of people that idolized him, I sat next to Johnny Middleton who tours with TSO and played bass on a few Savatage albums we could`nt keep the tears away.
Chris Oliva and Randy Rhodes. The two worst deaths in guitar history.Just imagine how good they would be if they were still alive today.Savatage was always ahead of the curve and ahead of their time.Great song!!!
@deeperwaterz i remember hearing about it the day after it happened and i was crushed first song i learned to play was Power of the Night.... LOVE the early albums like crazy, all are good but something about dungeons, sirens, skull session etc.....
Memories. These guys rocked! They were very unique for their time, too (and still). They were among the first bands to tune down more than just to E flat to help the singer out. We're talking C or C# on some tunes. Never got enough recognition.
This is the song that made me know Savatage back in late 80's. I was 14 and it blew my mind away. This album was the first step in all the great achivements of this band. Not that I dislike the older stuff, but from mountain king to poets/madmen, It's a whole different world.
I loved to crank this up back in my cruising days....My truck was pretty damn loud back in the day....I was running two 15 inch subs and two12 inch subs plus lots of front speakers and four fosgate amps......This song does hit pretty hard for metal.....
Hell yes!!! Haven't heard this in a long, long time. Had this album and Gutter Ballet back in the day (late 80's when I was like 14 or 15). Since I didn't have a CD player yet (very few teens did at the time) I bought 'em as records and then dubbed them onto cassette for my walkman which I would bring with me to class (to get taken away by some teacher during history)...fuckin pissed me off.
@1982youthanasia You just said it there, man! But not "underrated" by any means at all. Most people, and I'm talking about in the metal world, just don't know him. He's just the sickest unknown guitarist, not most underrated. Those who are aware of him know he's ridiculous. But the general public can't be held responsible for not knowing them. Savatage is right up there as arguable best most unknown metal band.
@Jaysin31 I don't know if that's what I meant, but he should be up there with guys like Randy Rhoads or Dimebag Darrell. I wasn't talking about the general public, but among metal fans. It's tragic that people in their own genre of music don't know who he is. That's sort of what I meant.
fucking classic

Memories. These guys rocked! They were very unique for their time, too (and still). They were among the first bands to tune down more than just to E flat to help the singer out. We're talking C or C# on some tunes. Never got enough recognition.

This band really reminds me of Saxon. Underrated and amazing.

Since I didn't have a CD player yet (very few teens did at the time) I bought 'em as records and then dubbed them onto cassette for my walkman which I would bring with me to class (to get taken away by some teacher during history)...fuckin pissed me off.

such a tragedy...one of the best guitarists ever, and one of my heroes, yet not a lot of people even know who Criss Oliva is. So underrated.
