@JohninFunk no, Mark is out of the society as he represents now only just 1/3....and Brewer's wife once told me that at the moment her husband doesn't envisage any financial convenience to issue/release the Shea Stadium concert for we fans...that's all. Terry Knight was the real owner of this movie as he was the producer without releasing it....then he died as we all know.
These Guys Are The BEST America Had To Offer in 1971..They were and still are ahead of their time....These Guys ARE AMERICA's ROCK-n-ROLL BAND...THEY all should have been as big as Elvis and the Beatles combined. Who ever is running the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame...needs their head examined, for NOT includeing Grand Funk!
Thats just down right stupid!.....but ABBA is in the hall of fame??? WTF ??
This was shortly before the legendary Shea show and also one of the last shows Mark used the Messenger guitar as he went to the Gibson SG summer of 71.
@Lmcdan1313 Thanks for the guitar data, I get guitarist asking me all the time about that Messenger, and what a bad little boy it was !!! ..Of course SG was a naughty one too !!
@ladytandsirc your comment should be directed to one Donald Brewer. Mark has already said he wants to do a reunion FOR THE FANS. Mel will do whatever Brewer tells him to do.
This is called "Mark Says Alright" and never appeared on any studio album. It was a jam they cooked up on stage. Only on The Live Album. One of my favorites of all time.
GFR is the Shit!!...The Best of Hard Rock.....I signed for them to be inscribed on the R&R hall of fame, what about this??????.... In the LP "The Dollar", had other songs like "People Let Stop the War" ...."Loneliness"...
Great video of one of my favorite Bands when I was a youngster, nice job JohninFunk in making this video, Mark is a class act I know that personally, I have talk with him several times in the earry 90's
Wow Mark 40 yrs , unbelievable,
Thanks JohninFunk for posting, you make great video's , I appreciate that and I can share my old memories with my family with your good work
What does the R&R hall of fame have to do with music anyway? They won't even nominate rush but they will madonna? Anyway, GFR should get every award possible. THEY ARE AWESOME!
Thank you for sending this to me. My Mom said she got this, too. What a great band they were. Sure wish they were still together. Sure did love these guys. The BEST OF THE BEST!!
I was fourteen years and lived in Surinam (South America) at that time, when a first heard GFR and fell in love with their music! I am 51 years now and live in Holland, I listen to other bands like Pink Floyd, Rare Earth, Deep Purple, Bad Company, Led Zeppelin, Super Tramp, but GFR is THE BEST! GFR with Mark, because with out Mark there is no GFR! Please forgive me Don en Mel, but you have to admit, Mark is the heart and Soul of GFR!
I loved the early stuff like this . Hard edge and from the guts ! But when "Were an American Band came out , they went from being the Best Hard Rock unknowns , to another band trying to sell records to the masses ! JMHO ! I still listen to the old stuff with fond memories of better days left unsaid ! LOL ! And I agree , there will never be another like them ! Inside Looking out . . Time machine . Into the sun . Paranoid . T.N.U.C . ! and bunches more .The older stuff kicks A**
Desde México, felicidades a Grand Funk Railroad y todos sus fans en este majestuoso cuarenta aniversario!!!!!!!! Para mí, ellos son insuperables, los número uno, y un orgullo de Norteamérica para el mundo entero.
Don's ego,and I hate to say it because i know these guys.He said simply...we don't need Mark. Its a shame because they have been friends since they were kids. Mel trys to stay out of the politics. And a Big Funk Thank you to funk brother Johninfunk for the message about this video.LONG LIVE THE FUNK.
AWESOME! Few images that impress even young fans and musicians like us!... Let's not be bothered by Rock and Roll HF, crap that's despising the American Funk Masterpiece. Thank you for your 'devotion' and goodness posting these scenes!
Love the West amps in the background - It must have been so much fun to be in this band in this time period. Thank you for your continued efforts in bringing us these classic scenes from the past. GFR will always be my favorite band to listen to and play.
Kick Butt Video!! I saw them back in 72, Farner in 05, GFR 06, and hope the see them together again someday. I saw a 2" thick Rock and Roll Encyclopidia at the book store yesterday and they were NOT in there. What the h_ll is up with that lol. Typical politics. Brewer's drumming is tight. Mel's bass was the powerhouse and Mark's singing was/is unreal. Not a bad guitar player either. He is a much better guitar player today. Thanks JohninFunk
Absolutely awsome, great job! How come there's not more video like this available? There has to be more footage out there - keep it coming! No top 40's radio play, or cheesy videos, just three guys with a real passion. I saw Farner a few months ago, still quite a performer - his guitar play has gotten better and his voice never left him.
Those bunch of vindictive pecker heads at the rock and roll hall of fame can stuff it - looking at their body of work they have zero credibility anyway.
@Lmcdan1313 yes, you are right, I saw this one captured by a guy who was selling this 8 mm. footage from a concert in Holland (Amsterdam)...Farner left the Messenger guitar between end 1971 and 1972, during "E pluribus" touring...I still wonder why they never put out some live recordings of great songs from that LP...still dreaming about songs like "I come tumblin" played live...instead of the usual "Inside" or something similar from the first recordings...
@MrHiwattamps the same questions you put I'm making as well all the time...but I think that until the rights management will be only in Brewer's hands (he's now the King of Grand Funk) we will suffer again & again....love that album (E Pluribus) and you can hear some live excerpts from that somewhere (very bad recordings...) but they really sound powerful...maybe one day, who knows...bye
OH HELL YEAH! "Mark Say's Alright," one of my favorite live cuts from the mighty GFR! I take it this is more of the Shea Stadium footage, seeing as though they've all got the same clothes on. Mel's bass just kicks major ass on this one! You did a good job on editing the "Live Album" version of this song with the film footage. It almost fits perfectly except for a couple of Don's drum parts, but NO BIG DEAL!
Thanks John for this amazing piece of history! Where was this footage shot? One can see good close-ups of Mark's Messenger guitar and those huge West amps in the background.
¿porque se separaron cuando se veìan tan conformes? geniales y verdaderos.

I know this is the recording from the LIVE album, edited to footage from the Shea Stadium concert. Great job!
Somebody must have the entire Shea concert. I saw pieces of "Into the Sun" and "T.N.U.C." in that clip.
I wish they'd release it soon. The longtime fans deserve to see/own a piece of rock history. We're not getting any younger!!!! Ha!!

The spirit and vitality of Grand Funk Railroad continues to be enjoyed 40 years later.
Marks Says Alright - what a great performance. Thanks for putting this up JohninFunk.
Saw them in 1970 and 1971 in Montreal - remember their electric energy not to mention my 2 days of deafness from sitting in the third row.
Long live Mark Don and Mel.
