He is my inspiration. I'm 12 and I'm learning Bach 4 and Dvorak. He pretty much resembles everything that I am although he makes the prelude seem so easy! I'm going to work very hard in order to get it as good as his. Nice job
12 and working on Dvorak? You better have one hell of a teacher. I'm not criticizing your skill level, but the Dvorak is something that require more than skill, emotion, passion. Among other things the Dvorak demands respect as it is one of the most difficult cello concertos to truly master both mentally and physically.
If you are as gifted as Oliver here and you have an excellent teacher than I say go for it.
Oliver, that was really great! Very impressive. Maybe you have already done this, but to make it even better, try looking at the chord patterns. That's what I do when I play Bach.

I think that this "cellist" is too pretentious. But he is good for the technical but for the musical... He does more than he have to do... Principaly in Bach...
I enjoyed this performance very much. He is a real musician, the feeling is all there. Oliver, please don't mind the negative comments, it's just envy. Most great musicians started very young and you are obviously one of them. I wish you a long and brilliant career!
please don't tell me there is music there, and he's looking at it, but you didn't want to get it on camera....either this or he's looking in one direction a lot. i'm not sure.
There is no music. Oliver has hours of lessons without music starting anywhere. He hardly ever uses the score other for the first few days of learning a new piece.
That's how pieces should be played. Personally, I find it an embarrassment to perform a solo piece with music. Imo, if you play w/ the music you just get the notes, you don't get the entire meaning/message of the piece.
Wow, this kid is amazing! Especially with a song in such a difficult key. I'm sure as he matures as a person, his music will have all the more feeling. Keep plugging away!
Or that. There comes a point when the learning curve of a child progidy evens out with everyone else, and any of the development of the learning process that they may have had the opportunity to forego can affect them adversely.
I don't think the "learning process" is important though. There's something beyond that which flows through this kid and any other person proficient at a craft.
Oh, sorry; I didn't mean to make it sound like it was. It's the "development" that comes with the learning process. The thing about child prodigies is that their intellectual (or musical) growth can exceed their emotional growth. If an 10-year-old kid could play the Bach Chaconne, do you think he'd really have the feelings behind it; of love, loss, longing, and resignation?
Most likely. I find a lot of them never improve past their child prodigy skill... by age 13 in fact they reach their pique. The best players were discovered in their mid to late teens.
this is an amazing recording. He really is a very mature cellist. The people that wrote on his other videos that he is all technique and has no musicality need too clean out their ears. great job, i think im gonna start this suite after hearing this
I was also wondering if his 'cello is full size or 3/4, as he's still on the petit side. Keep up the good work! I sometimes watch Oliver's videos before I practice as an inspiration.
Oliver has been awarded the cello as a loan by the Carlsen foundation. It is a 3/4. The videos of him 11-12 year-old is a 1/2 cello from the same source.
Gutsy and exquisite. Watch/hear the whole thing to get the progression. As solid as the bass sections are in the first part, so does Oliver take off like a dragonfly or whisper like a cloud for parts of the second half. Most of all, he can hang thematically with this masterpiece for the whole thing. Beginners can hack away at these Bach Suites and treat them like exercises. Oliver's beyond that...you'll be holding your breath at the end.
very mature interpretation....above u r age.......i m really admire u

Yeah, I think that's possible. I think most kids have felt those things by that age, not that those emotions are necessary for anything of worth.

are you saying that whoever has lived through the most hardship is therefore best at playing minor key music? give it a rest.
