Whoever is behind another vehicle (and I mean even by 1 foot) should STAY THERE when they see the 'LANES MERGE ARROW'. To do otherwise is like running to fit through a narrow doorway of a shop when someone else is near it. Except that in this case the consequences are more serious. FYI, I've been in the woman's position many times at one of these merge lanes and held back to go behind the driver next to me because AT THAT TIME it was the best options. I've also had other times (on the left lane) where I accelerated to get in front. However, I'm on a sportsbike, not in a slow car that would need more time to get up to speed.

Sometimes it is, but not here. Especially with a pushy van driver behind you. This way I had much, much more space as you can see at 1:40. I wasn't slow on the green light, I accelerated normally (albeit arguably a bit slow for the average sportsbike. I was feeling chill).

Not to be a dick but did you even watch the video? The 'overtaking' part is after the lights. See that huge white arrow? It's where you are supposed to merge into a single lane. If she wasn't trying to overtake me then she would have stayed right next to me. I accelerated off the lights and a normal speed. She had only two choices; to be in front of me or behind. In front would result in having her way too close to me and behind well.. it was the better option. :)

In this case no. Besides her being right next to me, I don't like being between cars (squeezed in). By overtaking her I had a lot of space between her, myself and the car in front.

Off guard? Slightly, but most cars switch to the lane I was on since the 2 lanes merge into 1 further down. I was paying close attention to the cars behind me (OCD mirror checking) but I thought the lady would be further behind me. Why did I accelerate the way I did? Besides not wanting to be stuck between cars on this road, she wouldn't have accelerated faster than me in the first place so she would have been right next to me (nearing the point to merge), which I didn't want. :)

Nice one, although I drive a 1.9 TDI Leon FR and don't actually ride a motorcycle. I am addicted to those women coming up alongside me in their small 1.2/1.4 litre hatchbacks with their foot welded to the floor dying to make it past short of looking dumbstruck as they are blasted backwards with some torquey in-gear acceleration they will never be able to argue with and it brings down their power ego they had about their own 1.2/1.4 by about six pegs. Respect to the rider!!!

she wasent really trying to undertake you, Id say you was in the wrong to start with, as the highway code/and uk laws, state we drive on the left, to lane to your left was clear as you pulled up, and you should have been in that lane, the transit might have pulled either in the right lane or behind you, either way, you'd still leave everything standing on cracking the throttle open on green to get yourself in front,into the single lane, I am both a car and bike owner/driver/rider,

Well I'm pretty sure she wanted to pass me because you are, where you see the white arrow, supposed to merge into one lane. I stopped for the light but she didn't have to but she also didn't adjust her speed to the cars around her. It would have made more sense for her to merge behind me. To be honest she caught me off guard and would have cut me a bit short if she merged in front of me. :)
