I really hate that the doctors don't all use anesthetic. If a circumcision is done it should be High and Tight and with maximum pain and comfort relief.

No. It's just that I know I'm absolutely without any doubt on the right side of this issue. There are many issues about which I have no clue and just have to throw up my arms in ignorance.
But this issue is too simple for that. It's simply wrong to hold a child down and peel one part of their genitalia away from another(as it's still fused at birth) and then remove this part. This is permanently disfiguring sexual violence, just as it would be if done to a girl.
And the pros, do not matter. All the supposed benefits from circumcision can be gained through other means. And it must be admitted by those who support MGM for medical reasons that there can't be anything fundamentally wrong with cutting a child's genitals, so there is no logical reason why we should not conduct experiments on cutting the genitals of girls to see what medical benefits may result.
And religion is no excuse either. The federal ban on FGM outlaws all forms of cutting without any religious or cultural exception whatsoever, even those that don't remove any tissue, which is indisputably less severe than male circumcision.
Therefore, male circumcision violates the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment which forbids unequal protection under the law. As it is, men are denied equal protection from unnecessary genital cutting.

100% of circumcisions result in complications. Circumcision destroys much of the most sensitive part of the male genitalia. That's a complication. And the rate you posted 1 in 500 to 1 in 250 is quite high for a procedure that is unnecessary and performed without consent.

However, there is a near-non-existant complication rate, with plenty of benefits, ranging from reduced and even nullified risk of disease, to increased sexual performance, stamina and sensation. Hygiene is also a large factor. For many, it's purpose is more ritualistic and is common among people of the Jewish and Islamic faith. Another reason is conformity, by not wanting him to feel different.

@LightflowFox Documentary. I'm a nurse - seen circumcisions live recently. The babies still get little to no pain relief. They are not routinely swaddled. They are given a pacifier if their screaming is distracting to the doctor or if we have a student nurse in the room who is reacting (turning white). Deny the truth all you would like.

After that point, the brit milah went from the removal of a sliver of skin to the amputation of about half the penile tissue to prevent Jewish men from restoring their foreskins. I've been to my share of Jewish circumcisions as well and they certainly do not last seconds. None of them have taken less than two minutes and in every single case the baby was screaming in agony.
@true358, this is a typical hospital circumcision. Jewish circumcisions ("bris") are done more quickly (mohels only use a scalpel). Hospital circumcisions are aimed at reducing the risk of haemorrhage, and the risk for complications is supposedly lower. The procedure is very painful either way - the baby screams. He may suddenly fall silent, which is probably a shock reaction. Any parent knows that young babies are at least as susceptible to pain as adults.

My son was done when he was 15 months old, where he was given pain-killer. He was in severe discomfort for days afterwards, expecially when he urinated. We have a second one on the way now, my girlfriend really wants him done just after he is born. @shannonbriggs100 Anesthesia is often unsafe to administer to a neonate. Right now, 75% of circumcisions are performed with no anesthesia. If they started using it, the death rate of circumcision would go up. I suppose in a way the doctors have the best interests of the patients in mind when they don't apply anesthesia before a circumcision, but if that's the case, why don't they wait until the patient is an adult?

I'm a Filipino and obviously Filipino males are circumcised. Before we enter puberty we need to be circumcised, it's a tradition or Biblical culture in the Philippines. When I was 12, I was so nervous about that. It has a little pain. But when I watched this video, a chill swept all over my body when I heard the baby cried. :( I think it's better for him to decide when he grow up.

My son was not circumcised at birth, where he was taken for the cut aged 1 year. He apparently did not cry out during the operation, as he was anaesthetised, where he did scream in agony whenever he urinated for the next few days afterwards.
Our next boy is due in July, where I will consent to him getting the cut almost immediately. His mom prefers circumcised penises, where she has to handle him while I'm away at my job, thus the cut must happen.

The hygiene issue is a myth that was done away with the advent of soap and water. The UTI justification is a ruse. Girls get far more UTI's than do uncircumcised boys. Also breast feeding, prompt diaper changing and good hygiene are much bigger factors in preventing UTI's than is circumcision.

If I ever have a son, he won't be circumcised. I've done tons of research on the pros and cons of being cut and uncut....I feel that it isn't necessary and it just ruins a normally functioning penis. When he's 18, he can decide what he wants to do, but I'd advise against it. I actually thought that being uncircumcised was a rarity because all you see in my country is foreskin-less penises! No. It's just that I know I'm absolutely without any doubt on the right side of this issue. There are many issues about which I have no clue and just have to throw up my arms in ignorance.
But this issue is too simple for that. It's simply wrong to hold a child down and peel one part of their genitalia away from another(as it's still fused at birth) and then remove this part. This is permanently disfiguring sexual violence, just as it would be if done to a girl.

Therefore, male circumcision violates the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment which forbids unequal protection under the law. As it is, men are denied equal protection from unnecessary genital cutting.

It's true that it's very painful, but as I said an infant has no memory and therefore won't remember the pain it was caused. Does that make it right? Not necessarily but, I remember absolutely nothing from my circumcision and, if you do please enlighten me. 0.2 to 0.3% of circumcision results in complication. It's not child rape, it's a fairly common practice here

100% of circumcisions result in complications. Circumcision destroys much of the most sensitive part of the male genitalia. That's a complication. And the rate you posted 1 in 500 to 1 in 250 is quite high for a procedure that is unnecessary and performed without consent.

However, there is a near-non-existant complication rate, with plenty of benefits, ranging from reduced and even nullified risk of disease, to increased sexual performance, stamina and sensation. Hygiene is also a large factor. For many, it's purpose is more ritualistic and is common among people of the Jewish and Islamic faith. Another reason is conformity, by not wanting him to feel different.

Hmm. They don't show any pain killer being used (most babies don't cry when pain killer is given, and it was given close to 90% of the time in 2006 and rising.) They use an old strap board (most circumcisions these days have the upper part of the baby swaddled so they can relax more.) Meanwhile they tout Intactivist propaganda with no counter studies talked about. Documentary or propaganda film?

They are given a pacifier if their screaming is distracting to the doctor or if we have a student nurse in the room who is reacting (turning white). Deny the truth all you would like.

After that point, the brit milah went from the removal of a sliver of skin to the amputation of about half the penile tissue to prevent Jewish men from restoring their foreskins. I've been to my share of Jewish circumcisions as well and they certainly do not last seconds. None of them have taken less than two minutes and in every single case the baby was screaming in agony.

@true358, this is a typical hospital circumcision. Jewish circumcisions ("bris") are done more quickly (mohels only use a scalpel). Hospital circumcisions are aimed at reducing the risk of haemorrhage, and the risk for complications is supposedly lower. The procedure is very painful either way - the baby screams. He may suddenly fall silent, which is probably a shock reaction. Any parent knows that young babies are at least as susceptible to pain as adults.

@shannonbriggs100 Anesthesia is often unsafe to administer to a neonate. Right now, 75% of circumcisions are performed with no anesthesia. If they started using it, the death rate of circumcision would go up. I suppose in a way the doctors have the best interests of the patients in mind when they don't apply anesthesia before a circumcision, but if that's the case, why don't they wait until the patient is an adult?

I'm a Filipino and obviously Filipino males are circumcised. Before we enter puberty we need to be circumcised, it's a tradition or Biblical culture in the Philippines. When I was 12, I was so nervous about that. It has a little pain. My son was not circumcised at birth, where he was taken for the cut aged 1 year. He apparently did not cry out during the operation, as he was anaesthetised, where he did scream in agony whenever he urinated for the next few days afterwards.
Our next boy is due in July, where I will consent to him getting the cut almost immediately. His mom prefers circumcised penises, where she has to handle him while I'm away at my job, thus the cut must happen.

The hygiene issue is a myth that was done away with the advent of soap and water. The UTI justification is a ruse. Girls get far more UTI's than do uncircumcised boys. Also breast feeding, prompt diaper changing and good hygiene are much bigger factors in preventing UTI's than is circumcision.

There is no such thing as a "Christian circumcision" (there are Jewish and Muslim circumcisions). Hospital circumcisions have no religious significance! If I have a glass of red wine at dinner, is that reminiscent of my drinking Christ's blood?

If I ever have a son, he won't be circumcised. I've done tons of research on the pros and cons of being cut and uncut....I feel that it isn't necessary and it just ruins a normally functioning penis. When he's 18, he can decide what he wants to do, but I'd advise against it. I actually thought that being uncircumcised was a rarity because all you see in my country is foreskin-less penises! Glad that I won't be joining the crowd of parents who have their sons cut just to conform to familiarity.

this article has some good references and links to Anands research. he has spend his entire career researching the effects of pain on developing fetuses and infants.

The BirthAsWeKnowIt web site is so excellent but it reminds me three things I was robbed of:
- My healthy normal pleasure-receptive foreskin was stolen whichis very disheartening as NO national medical association on earth (not even Israel's) endorses routine circumcision.
- I also lost out on the chance to have a perfect peaceful birth.
- I failed to experience perfect peaceful births for my two girls. Instead my wife was flat on her back with feet in the air, lashed to machines.

I've seen other videos of circumcision before, but it never ceases to break my heart. Hearing that poor little baby desperately cry for help, just to be ignored, and that doctor, explaining so emotionlessly the "proper" way to mutilate an innocent baby boy. And it makes me sick that so many parents would put their sons through this, just so he can "look like daddy."

@Windows7TechKid Common sense tells us that removing a part of a body part removes sensation from that body part therefore using common sense as our guide it is easy to understand that removing the foreskin no matter how many nerves it has will reduce sensitivity of the penis. So your assertion that circumcision doesn't affect sex is a lie. As for preventing STDs even if it was true it wouldn't be a good enough reason to cut a child because we have a better options abstinence and condoms.

@360lolz The male glans has 4,000 nerve endings with only some of them designed to give pleasure the male prepuce has 20 to 40 thousands nerve ending with few being non-pleasure giving nerve endings. As far as preventing disease circumcision has never been conclusively proven to prevent diseases as for every study that says it does, another two show that it has no affect or increases the risk of contracting the disease in question. So I'll take an intact penis over a mutilated one.

Circ does NOT prevent disease. Get educated. In Sweden and Norway NO boys are cut (except for the jews and immigrant muslims) and those countries have the lowest STD rates in the world. Try again. Try and keep coming up with reasons why you support mutilating children. I'll be waiting.
