I like how some guys compensate with their high and mighty 1000cc sport bikes (and busas) and refer to my er6n as a "bicycle" and then struggle to keep up on the first corner.
Why would they copy a Ducati, and then give it the name of a flower? Its just doesn't make sense to me. I also think it would be a big seller if they came out with a 1000cc version, and change the name to something that isn't so pleasing to the american man like "Gladius". I can see why american men like it, because its very feminine. But there is also a world market, and just changing the feminine name would greatly improve it marketability! Pay attention Suzuki!
Majority of busa riders trickle through the corners with their feet down and never go faster then 90 lol... very rare to see one at the tracks and even more rare to see one that actually can ride it. So I don't get how that makes you like more of a man... just sounds like you are compensating.
@Georgenfla im agreeing with college here, congrats u can accelerate quickly on a busa but you probably don't. in indianapolis a busa is referred to as a me too bike, because the second u mention one everyone says me too. short overweight women in stilettos were the majority of hayabusa riders. congrats you can join them.
Attractive bike? it's fuck ugly, look at the rearsets for 1, wtf happened there? and the frame is shite too, anyone who calls this attractive deserves to get shot! like that daft bastard at 0:12
I loved the look of the naked SV. I almost like the Gladius as much...but not quite.
And I totally agree about the name...unfortunately I want a v-twin and I want a naked bike and I want it relatively cheap...so I really only have one choice.
Put the Gladius and SV650 side y side and have a race. The Gladius will gladly smoke it. Every gear change puls by 1 bike lenght and when you are at 6th.........that is what 10% power increase does.
If you want to be a track day poser and rely on engine configuration to separate yourself from a a jerk off squid, buy an SV and call the Gladius gay.
Who cares what a sv owner thinks it`s what the gladius or fast short sword owner thinks that matters and WE LOVE IT THANK YOU. just for the record I had a sv600 on hire and hated it so much I asked them to take it back after three days.
Your an Idiot, And if that video of the Gladius test was your riding then you may well have been riding longer than I've been breathing but there's a difference between just riding and riding well and you certainly arent riding well. The Gladius is a pig ugly bike, if you like a V twin engine then the little lump that's in it isn't to bad. As far as I'm concerned have 4 cylinders or none.
Why show a load of dickheads talking about it instead of showing the bikes!!! And hayabusa directly translates as Peregrin Falcon. Good name as som1 mentioned b4 :-|)
Lol jumped: You ask why the vid shows people talking about it, instead of showing the bike. Because no one wants to see that hideous monstrosity! I would surely have nightmares if forced to gaze upon the foul beast that is the Gladius for more than a few seconds!
However, in all fairness, do those guys REALLY want better suspension? Think about it, of course they WANT it, but would they be willing to pay an extra 1,500 dollars for it!? That's what oftentimes people don't think about. They want everything to be super performance spec, but then when the 6 thousand dollar bike ends up costing 10 grand...its no different than the top-of-the line super sport!
If you have a problem with seeing and engine in its frame without plastic covering it than you won't like the gladius. If you have a problem with a tweaked version of the SV650 that puts out 10% more HP and torque, than you won't like the gladius. If you don't like a more comfortable seating position and ergonomic package that allows one to see through traffic and endure a few hours in the saddle, than you won't like the gladius. If you don't like a great deal with tons of sporting value....
the gladius is a poor replacement for the sv650 imo. it's looks like a plastic toy... it's ugly. suzuji should never have dropped the sv1000 range.. they cain :D
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
SV650 owners should STFU and remember their precious bikes were aimed at the midgets and the girls anyway, it was only a matter of time before they actually owned up to the fact that it was aimed at cross-dressing lady-boys too. If you feel that strongly against the Gladius then don't f*cking buy one, simple, leave it to someone who does.
do people not know what a gladius is? short sword that's fast and agile kinda sums up the bike quite well really although the meaning behind the Hayabusa is much better (it's a bird of prey from japan that's main food is blackbirds lol)
I keep calling dealers looking for a new SV650, and they keep telling me they don't have any more of the 2008s in stock. And then go on to say, "but have you seen the new gladius? That has replaced the SV650". My simple response is always "yeah i've seen it, I'm not interested in it."
one, it's not naked and it's not full fairing, and it's not a good looking hybrid of the two, so, it's ugly.. two GLADIUS??? really?/ where are the pips? gladius knight, get it??
i saw one in person last week at the shop, they look very streamline and nice in the black color. duc monster looks very similar; but performance is a big dif. after recent tests between kawi, yam, suz, and the duc... suz gladius is the best overall, so looks shouldn't matter too much nor the gay name, i'm getting one and i used to own a 695 monster and i got tired of it breaking, japanese it is.
Looks good in black in person. Sort of looks like the honda hornet too but less edgy. It's just the direction bikes are going in. I sat on it and it's pretty comfortable too. A 1000 version would kick ass and it does look a little more refined now. The name does suck but I don't ride bikes based on their name so it's not that important. They could have chosen better colors but like I said-go see it in person and it looks fine.
If Suzuki wouldve come out with just a designation, and not a name, it wouldnt be so feminine. The other thing, Suzuki should do some real racing, agressive color schemes, not that sissy stuff. I like the bike, but wouldnt buy it because of the name!
Sure, Gladius doesn't even compare to SV. Very, very sad.
On the other hand, Ducati 696 not only looks much worse than 695, it is also less fun and usefull than previous model.
Suzuki wanted a bike for girls. Ok, cool. Guys got GSX 650F last year (I own one). Now we all wait for SV 1000 replacement. My only hope before I turn to Benelli/Aprillia.
That Gladius is one ugly piece of crap, 1987FX16 is right. Suzuki should have thought it through more, now the B-King is nice. And I also miss the TL model.:(
ok as a sv owner for 3 years i have to say its cool there makin another sv like bike but come on its fuckin ugly theres only one thing i like about the bike and its that its a vtwin but id rather buy a 07 sv then get the gladius and if suzukis gonna make a bike like a sv it should have been more like the fuckin TL1000R because i fuckin miss that bike i owned on and loved it but the fuck ups already happen so too late now lol sorry suzuki should have put more thought into it
As an SV owner, I think the Gladius looks like it's made for homos. The website for the Gladius is just about the gayest shit I've ever seen. If the gay guy pictured on the gladius webpage were to roll up to a group of bikers on a baby blue and white Gladius wearing that shit he'd get his ass kicked.
Who really cares about the name. What's the big deal. And for the record, Gladius does not means penis like some people stated. I means Sword. And the people that cry and moan about the name, do you actualky have a bike or just have lot of time to waste down on the internet. And do you think Suzuki really cares about the SV650 owners. I think they don't.
The word "gladiator" was derived from "gladius"(penis). to kompresser, the reason it also means "short sord" because the romans figured thats what it looked like when looking for a name.
The idea of naming the bike "sword" isn't half bad. On the other hand, it isn't stupid that the name Gladius itself is shit, in the sense that it sounds like shit. Having dropped out of school or not, it wouldn't really change that fact.

Gladius meant "sword" but also "penis" in latin. Yeah, that's a cool name for a bike.

Like they said, I do no see the Gladius having the following the SV650 has...
Just when you hope the new SV comes with a 850cc and a 1200cc motors... We get a hediuos naked little child of the B-King...
We lost the TL1000R, Then the SV1000S, now the SV650... Soon the SV650F...
At least we can dream of a GSVR1000 V4... But it will not happen!!!!
Time to get a KTM RC8 or at least a Ducati 1198...
