Sanchez VIcario she won 4 slams and made it to number 1 and Sabatini wasn't even close. Sanchez Vicario also won more WTA titles and reached more slam finals than Sabatini. Arantxa was just a superior player. Sabatini lead Arantxa by only 1 victory in their head to head. However, Arantxa turned the tables on Sabatini in 1992 to the end of her career.
@JordanjamesX She got three of those four slams when Gaby was on decline, Steffi was injured prone and Monica was stabbed. Otherwise she would be a one slam wonder like Gaby. And Gaby still leads the head to head of Aranxta eventhough she got most of her wins were on Gaby's decline.
@natsolog It's no nonsense since Seles came back in 1995. 1993-1995=Two years of sabbatical. Or may be Seles was really playing those two years and I didn't noticed. :-P
Sabatini was very close to being number one in 1991 but she got drunk on her 21st birthday and lost to Anke Huber in the third round of the German Open. If Sabatini had beaten Huber she WOULD of been number one in the world that year. But Gabriela was always mentally weak she never had the mental toughness to carry her through. Seles and Graf also had better serves and more powerful shots. Sabatini lacked the big serve and the mind of champion. Sabatini is the biggest underachiever in WTA ever.
I miss these days, the graf/seles/sabatini triangle in the early 90's was fascinating!! Yes sabatini was probably the lesser player in terms of competitiveness but her game was outstanding, she didn't have the drive that graf and seles had. Women's tennis pales in comparison these days.
Sabatini was mentally weak that's why she only won ONE slam and reached only three slam finals. This match is a perfect example Sabatini had a 4-2 lead in the third set and as usual LOST to Seles like she always did. Arantxa was a champion and she reached SIX French Open finals. And Regardless of whether your views Arantxa BEAT Seles to win the 1998 French Open fair and square. Seles gained weight in the second half of her career she had less endurance. Sabatini quit at age 26 was was finished.
Sanchez BEAT Seles in the 1998 French Open final or have you forgotten. Sanchez was a great clay courter better then Sabatini she won the French THREE TIMES. Sabatini NEVER reached a French Open final.
Idiot that was after the stabbing. Sanchez never came close to beating Seles in a slam anywhere before the stabbing, got her butt whooped all 4 times. I am just giving you a taste of your own biased medicine. If you are going to saying Graf was lucky that Seles was stabbed, so was your crush Sanchez. Sanchez had only won 1 slam before the stabbing and she never was going to win another one without the stabbing. So Sanchez really should be only a 1 time slam winner like just like Sabatini.
and more than a month later, monica beat sanchez vicario in spain at fed cup playing on clay 6/4, 6/0 and then 6/3, 6/2 in the Canadian OPEN final. I don't know why seles lost that mach against SV in RG 98 she was leading 5/3 in the first set and lost 7/6.

Whatever, Sabatini was a chronic choker that COULD NOT win the big grand slam matches and that's why Sabatini will be known as a ONE SLAM WONDER that's the facts.
This IS 1992, Seles and Sabatini met in the semis at Roland Garros in both 91 and 92. Seles won in straight sets in 91 and in three in 92. Seles played Capriati in the semis of RG in 1990.
I have an opinion and I am entitled to my own views. My view is Sabatini was a chronic choker and underachiever she lost a lot of big matches because she didn't have the nerve and the big weapons. Steffi, Monica, and Aranxta were superior because they had the mental toughness Sabatini lacked.
Please do it... I was reading all comments here cause I wanted to know if someone complained about it. I mean, it´s nice they posted but what´s the point if we can´t see the ball?... thanks in advance.

Sabatini was lazy she never learned how to serve. Sabatini's serve was such a weakness that's why Seles, Graf, and Sanchez Vicario are superior to her.
Still spewing your garbage and hate towards Gaby?. What the hell did you ever win in your life?. Too bad your a zero trying to be a one. By the way, what was Sanchez's record against Gaby?. That's right, a losing one. Do everyone a favor, and get the hell out of here now.
Very well said. Sanchez is lucky as hell to win an added 2 slams in 1994 when Graf had an injured plagued year, Seles was out with the stabbing, Navratilova was about to retire, Sabatini on the decline, and Capriati away. Then another French in 98 when the field left were all hard court and grass court players. Sabatini early on had to deal with prime Evert and prime Navratilova, for a long time prime Graf, and later prime Seles. She would have won 7 slams with Sanchez's lame competition.
Sabatini was already past her prime by 1994. Sanchez's prime was 1992-1996 and Sabatini's was 1988-1993. That is why I mean I say Sanchez peaked at a better time since other than Graf there was hardly anyone else there from 1993-
1996. Sabatini had to deal with Graf, Seles, and Navratilova during her prime years. Are you not agreeing with what I am saying?
Yeah and they also arent that good. Sabatini and Sanchez are both superior to Novona and Martinez so peaking while they did is good for either one, and it was Sanchez who had that luck.
Gabriela Sabatini was so phenomenal to watch! Great flair and style!
People speculate and comment about Sabatini and her sporting results without putting things in perspective. I agree that she should have won this match but Seles was tenacious and made you close out a match or lose a closely contested match with a bad after taste.
I really feel after this match Gabriela Sabatini was no longer a grand slam contender on the WTA. Sabatini should of won this match she beat Monica at the Italian Open in 1992 easily in straight sets. Sabatini really lost a lot of confidence after this loss to Seles she was never the same. Sabatini NEVER reached the semifinals at the French Open after this loss. Sad story that Sabatini is known as a very talented player but also very mentally weak she couldn't win the big matches.
I disagree. Sabatini recovered well enough to win the 94 slims championships & the '95 Sydney. And, she reached the semis of the US open in 1995. It's just that injuries got the better of her in 1995 thru 1996. She's still one of the best (shot for shot) players who have ever played the game. And she is the only one who had beaten Graf 11 times. It's also worth mentioning that Gaby was one of the few who had beaten Seles at her peak in straight sets.
Seles was a revolutionary tennis player who opened the door to a whole generation of grunters.
