Yes, they're real, but the motor has been disconnected from the chain so it can't cut. They may also use a special chain that doesn't have any sharp parts; not sure.

That sucks about King Kong getting burned down -- I hadn't heard about that. Glad I videotaped it last year -- will have to put that up when I get the time. (Glad to read that the video vault that also burned didn't contain anything there was no backup for!)

Yeah, that sound is pretty obnoxious. I didn't recall it being quite that bad in person, so I wondered if my camera were disorting it a bit, but another Terror Tram video I watched here (shot with a different brand of camera, I think) sounded like this too. Going back to my source clip and listening, it doesn't sound nearly as piercing, so apparently audio processing YouTube does (EQing up highs to help with intelligibility on amateur recordings?) and/or the audio codec they use causes this.

I think I was messing with my map and show schedule and trying to figure out if I had time to do anything else before the park closed. The tram wasn't going yet and the TV was just showing a looped clip, so I wasn't paying critical attention to the shot at that point. I wouldn't include the initial waiting around part at all, except that the tour guide sets up some of her later jokes during that part, and some of it is amusing.
