  • It's wonderful to see you teach, but

neither sheets, no midi files, nor screen representation of keys.

  • wow that was great

  • Awesome video.I got to work on that...!

  • i heard the giant Steps walkdown you slid in at :47, well played sir, well played!

  • Keep teaching bro. Love what you are doing.

  • at 1:13..... Gbmaj9/Bb = a major 9 chord with the 3rd in the bass, then take it down a perfect 4th toDbmajor9 with F in the bass. Now walk it up in the sequence of a Mixolydian but stop on G then move this same chord backward by reversing the sequence. Neat trick. Just don't over use it in every song where there is a minor chord. Some call it a root position minor 7th chord with a b13.

  • You started off with advance harmonic chord progressions with extended 9ths and end with #11 borrowed from the parallel Lydian mode on the ending chord before you used altered dominant chords with b13 and other additives and I guess you called this basic. LOL.. You can't get no more advance than that unless you do bitonal keys or 12 tones mode. LOL.. I like it too but don't pretend this is basics.

  • wow man thanx KC very helpful!!!!

  • This is GREAT ! i cant stop watching it !

did you like get some type of schooling to get this good or its just stuff you picked up ?

  • move

  • I want that more in the beginning

  • Hi Kevin -

This is a great video! I have been following you for awhile now through Unlocking The Keys! Yes I purchased the DVD a few years back. NICE!! Question. Can you please do a DVD breaking down those moves you did at the beginning of this video before you start explaining the Db flat thing? PLEASE! I love that move. I want every little bit before the Db thing begins...Thanks! Hit me when you've done it!

    Bless ya! Ken

  • this is lovely, thanks man

  • All nice stuff. Just curious, though: Db? Generally, I've found that to be one of the most avoided of keys by people just having some fun on the keyboard. You seem to make it pretty central. Nothing wrong with that, of course, but it's somewhat unusual. Many people tend to instruct in C, when breaking things down.

You're a wonderful player, by the way!

  • Yes SIR!! Awesome and simple!!

  • great, mate!

  • Fake it till you make it! I've been fakin for years but you made it bruh! jk. Love your DVD and youtube vids! A true measure of success is your ability to help others and you have successfully made it by blessing musicians all around the world, K.C.

  • Thanks man this is really informative

  • Why D flat?

  • why not?

  • cause there's 11 other keys you could play it in, was wondering what's special about Db

  • id say because its one of the easier keys to play in mainly black notes.then again it may jus be random.

  • Db is one of the most used keys in gospel and contemporary worship.

  • Man you the greatest in the world. Finally someone is speaking in a way I can understand. Lord Bless You

  • I like how you get right to pointing out how it's necessary to learn the chords in your left hand. Obviously the more you can do with the left the better you sound with the right. In fact I might just tie my right hand behind my back one day when I practice LOL

  • Doc, you be makin' me roll, fake it till you make it, LOL. But i like your style. Smooth. Although I know something you and PJ Morgan help me put it altogether. I like how you play with those quartals (2:52 - 3:04) Keep on keepin on :)

  • hey such, I am Roberto de Paraguay. I love your classes, but you ask if you can locate the camera over to watch what you do best. You are very good and you can do is ask more progressions, are excellent and please in a note easier as C. thank God bless you

  • Hey Kevin my name is Darnell and i was wondering if you could break down the chords you did at the very beginning of this video everything you did that caught my ear was under the one minute mark. you did a lot of beautiful jazz movements. you sound so beautiful keep up the good work and hit me back whaen you can my youtube name is ToliKwoli GOD BLESS!!!

  • well, i think what might be easy to one advance player might be difficult even for another advance player lol,, Depends on if u are Contempary minded or Old skool minded,, I know guys who can hit Old school like a pro, and cant play contempary for crap,, and guys who can play contempary like a pro, and cant hit old school for crap LOL I hear alot of new school try to play old school, and they just dont get it LOL

  • great stuff keep up the good work

  • kevinyou aer good.

  • K.C. you are the bomb man!! I've never seen someone break it down the way you do. You actually know what you're playing and that makes all the difference when someone is trying to teach!! one problem though...I went to the website to buy your video and I couldn't find yours...

  • I heard some Kevin Bond in there at exactly 3:28

  • OMG!! Sick chords!!!

  • Hey Kev. I have been playing piano a while but I have never been able to do runs, scales quickly. Kev, please tell me the secret. Please drop me a few lines by clicking my username above this comment. My main influences are The Duke, Monk, Art Tatum, Michel Camilo, Ilan Chester, JJ from hnsmusic and you. But, i'm tired of only playing slowly with my fingers. I appreciate your talent. Sincerely LM.

  • thank you... you are very good at breaking things down bro!...you need to make a DVD

    GOdbless!!

  • This is tight mane.

  • this was a great video!

  • sweet - very helpful!

  • thanks for the lesson master!...please show some more...we dont have much advanced audio and visual aids here in our province in philippines..and i cant afford it also..heheh..and you are so much of help to us keybosrd players here...thanks so much!..god bless you

  • I agree...unless you're REALLY in The Spirit, to run up, down and back up again IS really too busy but it helps to know those things. My biggest issues are gettin' the left hand goin' and gettin' up the speed in my right hand. I'll usually play the root and a 5th in my left hand to fill the bottom a little and fatten the cords. What else do you recommend??? Can you do a video that teaches how to get more "left hand" into the music???

  • I would be interesting in hearing K.C.'s thoughts on this, but in my experience, knowledge of your scale and the chord structures within them helps solve alot of this problem. My brother consistently plays in 11ths and 13ths, chopping them up all kinds of ways...monster chords all day! that's not my style. I'm more like you...and open chord player with fast bass note action. So yeah...git on it KC! lol...

  • Hey-What's up... Well, my take on music is pretty simple. You can play to impress, or you can play to accompany. If your intentions are to impress, I'd recommend studying "jazz" theory; for someone looking to accompany, I'd recommend "classical" theory, with an emphasis in analysis studies. I try to blend both styles in the dvd; it'll be out in mid-March. Thanks for the support!!!

  • I don't recommend too much left hand chording, unless you have either a bass player or your actually playing the organ. The BASS note is the foundation!!! I generally like to keep the melody on top of everything, especially when I'm playing solo; but in the event that you're playing along with vocals, it's your domain to let loose!!! Thanks for the support!!! Concerning more left hand into real life applications; I cover a few techniques and substitutions on the dvd (mid-March 2008).

  • I have to get that DVD. I would like to know more theory. I usually have a bass player. I just feel like I'm hitting a glass ceiling in my playing and I KNOW I can be SO much better. I like the way you and AG Praise break everything down and make is simple. Keep pushin' them buttons!!! ;-)

  • Great stuff K.C.

  • Easy to tell you love what you do. This is such a blessing for beginners and vets alike! Is there a projected date for the dvd release? Looking forward to it

  • bro , i hateing so much right now. your crazy dude, thanks for showing us, man.

  • a i like the way you broke that down man thank you

  • Man!!!

    This is sooo good.

I just need a vid with all these ideas that I can buy& download here in South Africa.

  • First, thx for a great instructional video. Your sensitivity towards beginners is genuine, indeed. Second, I hope you have the greatest success in the production of your DVD. Your humility makes you really shine....God Bless!!

  • you brushed on some slick comp/soloing @ minute 3:30 ..will that be discussed on the dvd?

  • at minute 3:33...you did some real slick comping/soloing, will that concept also be discussed on the dvd..??

  • Is the dvd going to be for the piano or organ? Whatever it is i know it will be tight!

  • I'm teaching on both... I'm a natural keyboardist, but i can "hake it to i make it" on the organ...lol :-)

  • I like that sound where can I get it, and what sound is it?

  • it's a sound module: kurzweil micro piano (mp-1)... you can get one on ebay for $150.

  • Heh, that's cool we almost have the same gear. I have a Kurzweil ME-1 module and my SL-900xp should be here Thursday. Looking forward to your DVD!

  • KC where do I purchase your dvd you are great but slow it down music is never redundent

  • slow it down bro explain don't rush

  • i will definitely slow things down on the dvd... i'll be flying out tonight (12/09/07) to new york - i'll be recording tomorrow night - keep me in your prayers!!! THIS IS FOR YOU GUYS!!!

    thanks for the support...

    -KC

  • were would I be able to purchase it at

  • you should explain how it's the #5th moving to the natural 5th for that first tidbit.

you should explain that the voicing in the 2nd bit is the Bill Evans "So What" chord from the Miles Davis album Kind of Blue. that voicing is like the basis of Modern Jazz Piano.

same goes for those Left Hand voicings in the 3rd bit. Also from Bill Evans.

  • haha whoa doc! I'm stealing this one!!!

  • K.C. you are on it Doc.

So we will be able to purchase the DVD on the 9th? i know that it's gonna be hott bruh!!!!! Stay Blessed!
