You people with all your little "compressor" talking, get out of here. If you don't like it, DON'T LISTEN. Picking apart someones music about the little things where you feel inadequate of in real life. Where is your music critical critics? I would love to hear it. You all (maybe some do) wish you made good music. I like Com Truise simply because he puts together what sounds good overall as a track. PEACE
@bestwhackjunk The kind of people who listen to artists like Com Truise are often junkies and hardcore music listeners with nit picky opinions. Get over it.
@Obama4Prezz hah your so right they totally do! owait... no they fucking dont, it has a synth and a beat so it must be similiar to boards of canada? gtfo
com is a cool guy. hes not stuck up like some artist who are kinda known. even in underground music artist get get prideful knowing that a couple thousand know who they are
@LackOfTolerance I understand how you see it, but in the end it`s still truly an epic song that really is a highlight of Com truise` style since the fairlight is a resounding piece of equipment from the past that is signifigantly part of Seth Haley`s MO and is a track that sounds almost as if it should have been made in the past but never was like most of Com Truise` work... and that change-up at 1:58 is incredible, I`m sure this track will one day be a true classic!
@hedphonehed So if i understand this correctly, if i made a track called "ARP 2600" and made it entirely with software rehashing 70's style synthesizer music, i would be a music genius? I know exactly what a Fairlight is and i don't think mentioning it in the track title makes it any better. That's what is happening with CT's entire discography it seems, people enjoy it because of the idea of equipment reference in the sound and the idea of it rehashing deep far away styles from the 80's.
@LackOfTolerance (textbox was full) ..so what i want to point out is that i personally don't think the equipment and reference are great big factors in whether i like it or not at all. If it sounds good than i like it, no matter who made it and with what! This, however, just puts me to sleep a bit :/
@okidot I didn't diss it because of the name, which is obviously stated above if you'd actually read it all, I actually thought hedphonehed implied it as a reason to like it, which I find as ridiculous as you do. I love simple synth music as well, and I love to make it, but the compression really REALLY does ruin it for me, because I can't hear anything, if you know what I mean. I would love to know why someone applies this much compression to their style of music, it just ruins everything imo.
@hedphonehed and id like to add that sometimes thats what makes something awesome...not having it be so clean, not giving it the "Michael Bay" effect. Its like Boards of Canada, some of their amazing ambience comes from just a raw unclean sound. Same could be said of other genres, like the group The Chariot's album "Everything Is Alive, Everything Is Breathing, Nothing Is Dead, and Nothing Is Bleeding", was so epic in its rawness, and when they cleaned up all the songs it sounded horrible.
@Ebm7b5 I'm very sure it is implied, i'm guessing a musical genius as Seth knows how to use a compressor by now. I like heavy compression as well, i listen to a lot of Flying Lotus and Clark for instance and that's compressor country! But i don't want things to breath and be thrown back and forth with this type of music, i want to hear everything that happens and i can't because it's mostly pounded in. I call it "French Compression" :P
@LackOfTolerance hmmm actually, on second listen, i think it certain elements are sidechained afterall. yeah. along witht the kick. i guess since its just not 4 on the floor it triggers it at unconventional times. is that what you're hearing?
@Ebm7b5 Well, that's the thing, i find such a compressor sidechain frenzy rather annoying when virtually nothing in the song happens, yet it stomps and gets kicked in so you still don't really hear anything. When it's a busy song the compressor becomes more dynamic and part of the composition to me. There's hardly a lot going on in this track, why hide it in the depths of compression? I doubt he uses it to cover up mistakes, but then again a compressor is such an effect nowadays.
@LackOfTolerance Uncompressed 707's, in this type of application, have really, only been successfully pulled off by daft punk. This track would have too much space without it.
@wereismymind It would be completely shit without the compression you say? So it is to cover up the arsey production. And it's not the drums that are compressed, it's the entire track that is compressed and the beats are sidechained to it.
this song makes me want a lightcycle
