Hi Steve, I am 24 years old, and I am 1.74mts tall, how heavy should be my bow if I just wanted to Practice, I was thinking about a 50# or is it to heavy? should I go for the 45# or 40# ?
@belzach I have two I use, a 30 ponder for small game and just all around fun, because I can shoot it all day and not get tired or worn out, which helps me stay accurate and make some pretty awesome shots. I have a 50 ponder for large or dangerous game, I also practice with this one on a regular basis, but after about 40 mins I am tired and it is hard to make precision shots. Remember practice is practice, so shooting a lighter bow will still make you a good shot.
The welsh and english longbows were the king of the battlefield. English yew bows are more widely known because it ended up being compulsary for most citizens of england to learn to use a longbow, therwfore there was more english than welsh archers
@parody101pen15 It was for the Welsh to train with the longbows, and the Welsh were far superior to English archers, and it was Welsh archers at Agincourt, Crecy, Poiters etc.
@TitoSkt2 I often find myself out of celery and have a hankering for something crispy and chewy like deep fried beer battered quail it is the only thing that will replace my obsession with celery. =]
@TitoSkt2 What would you prefer if you were a deer? Living in the wild and then suddenly being shot with an arrow and dead in seconds, or rather be kept on a ranch and slaughtered?
And if you think that an arrow to the heart is cruel, check out how animals naturally kill each other. They don't care about pain, ethics and stuff... Hunters do.
@TitoSkt2 Well, animals eat other animals. Humans are animals. We will eat other animals and get eaten by other animals, that's how nature has worked for a long time.
Great video. It's better if the arrow "sticks in" the game, rather than passing all the way through. The animal usually won't go far with an arrow sticking deep in it.
The woodland Indians had bows that pulled between 46# and 50#. They would stick!
Thats some great advice you really dont need a heavy bow for hunting smaller game also heavier weight bows can be hard on the shoulders and joints but you really need to be carefull using cheaper arrows like childrens arrows some states or provinces (I live in Canada) will nail you to a cross for not using a proper arrow ,here in Canada its a heavy fine for hunting with a practice point or unproper "Hunting Arrow" they will even fine you if theres any rust on the arrow....
@Kenjutsumasters Here in the US we can use pretty much what we want, the children arrows have never failed to take a squirrel or rabbit it is cheaper I also used a blunt tipped arrow designed for the same purpose, it does not take much to make a clean kill with small game. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment
@shilohtv Ya its nice in the U.S much more relaxed on hunting regulations where so damm regulated here in Canada its not even funny, Im going to give that a try using a kids arrow much better then loosing a 20 dollar hunting arrow if I make a bad shot just have to make sure the game wardens dont sneak up on me lol
@shilohtv U are right finally some truth about archery..u dont need anything more than 50lb,i think..Yew and osage are hard to get and so expensive, red oak and hickory are abundant, and cheap..i back mine with deer sinew..u dont need the overpriced stuff from archery shops..they just want your money,i make my own arrows from hazel, dogwood, viburnum ,river cane..good shootin, great vid
great video its very helpful i need help picking a traditional bow that i can use for med/ large game if you can actually name a good bow manufacturer and the pounds i need would be awesome help
I have hunted white tails and smaller game for years with a 35 pound Bear traditional that was made in the 60's or 70's I have a 60 Pound take down for bear and other large game, I would not go over 60 pounds, there is nothing you are going to hunt that you will need more than that. Remember it is always shot placement not how hard the arrow will hits, obviously you want a heavier bow if you are shooting a thick skinned animal, but other than that it is not necessary.
@slfviirus In a pinch like a survival situation any wood will do as long as it is flexible, hard woods like oak, maple and mahogany, in the desert here I use whatever I can get.
@shilohtv Hi i was just wondering what draw poundage i should use on med-large game? im using a 55 on white tails now but when i move on to larger ones will a 55 suffice?
I hunted white tail for years with a 35 ponder that 55 should take care of anything up to elk black bear etc, I have hunted a lot of large game with my 60 ponder 5 pounds will not make that much of a difference , it is all about shot placement
