Boxed Out: Criminal Records & The "Ban the Box" Movement in Philadelphia

I've tried applying for temp jobs, they basically tell me they can't place me b/c of my felony. My felony was being in a vehicle with someone who had a large amount of marijuana. I'm not gonna sell drugs to the employees ! My record has nothing to do with who I am. And it's funny that they say it's "illegal" to discriminate against ppl who have records. Why do they do the check then ?!

There is a definite problem. The justice system shouldn't be about vengeance; it should be about reformation. But more often than not it ends up being a sort of societal black hole in which people are lost forever.
