  • @metalzombiebass Cliff rocks! Learn the propper grammar and then post you faggot.

  • omg I could listen this 100000000000000000000 times over and over again..

  • I love how sloppy yet fitted it is...

    GOD I LOVE METAL

  • Sounds like a motorcycle ^^

  • cliff is good but not the best... i can play this song by 2 fingers but i could never play the trooper with 2 fingers which makes steve harris the best HM bass player :)

  • @zhangliao10 ? you cant play the trooper with 2 fingers? i can. so that displaces what you said.

  • @mrsatanicbassist u r a bassist and i'm not .. i'm a guitar player i play with a pick so when it comes to fingers i'm a beginner .. a beginner can play this like a piece of cake but i cant play the trooper with two fingers cuz its harder..

  • @zhangliao10 but your not listing to his most achomplishing songs

  • @mrsatanicbassist u got a point :)

  • @zhangliao10 like call of ktulu orion or anesthia i mean even disposiable heros. and by the way geezer is the best heavy metal bassist of all time.

  • @zhangliao10 bitch please stop been selfish only becuase you cant that doesnt mean others can, check out more videos there are dudes out there that play the trooper even with pick...

  • i think it's just his tone he had, he actually wasn't that great. sorry cliff. Rob to me is a better more skilled bassist. Cliff's stage show was what was great. Cliff was good but i can name about 1000 better Metal bass layers. His tone was killer thou . Metallica hasn't been able to capture this tone since Cliff. Even rob is turned down on DM..

  • @nigletgook metallica are bass killers man,the day they realize a album where you can heard bass 100% then finally they understand that bass sound is something beatiful

  • No one was doing what Cliff was doing. He was taking their sound and metal in general to a whole new place. He probably would have left Metallica or at least made them stay away from the "Black album" sound and the shitty haircuts in the 90s. This track is incredible.

  • @SwingwenuSwagga the haircuts is right, but he would gone through with the black album and done what he wanted. he would have never quit

  • One of the greatest metal bassists , and this proves it.

  • punk

  • @mrgrimm001 i know =P.....

  • dude steve harris is not that good. im sorry. Cliff burton isnt anywhere near the best. maybe he couldve been if he lived. Nonetheless, a classical player and innovator of bass, cliff was the best in the 80's and a virtuoso of 80's bass guitar. talking about technicality gets you nowhere because simple things sound better. and he was crazy skilled just go check out anesthesia pulling teeth, its got everything from wah to tapping

  • @Squall6575 Look, I respect your opinion and all, but how is Steve "not that good?" Have you even tried playing his basslines???

  • @bullsnake70 didnt i say technicality is nothing? maiden is more technical than metallica. But, Cliff was always the better composer. that part is pretty obvious, his input in master, orion, call of ktulu and his classical guitar trianing makes him the better musician. Unlike Harris, he understod theory and played different instruments. And metallica is a much bigger band than Maiden, that part is non debatable and a lot of it has to do with cliff's writing on stuff like battery's intro

  • Yes, we all realize that Cliff was a great bass player. What helps his legend is that he was in Metallica. If you ask me, Anything Metallica has done after MOP doesn't match up. It's all a matter of opinion anyway. Cronos of Venom is 1 of my fav bass players. Is he better than Cliff? Technically no but, I like him more than Cliff. As far as technicality goes Steve Harris is good too.

  • cliff play bass and drums here lol XD ?

  • @Acardas its his fingers hitting against the guitar

  • Cliff is God....and he aint dead.

  • if youre gonna hatte on cliff go listen to anesthesia pulling teeth then come back

  • fuck the top rated comment they all suck ass compared to cliff. Cliff kicks ass and is the best EVER

  • @PorkyEatsWorld Cliff was very ingenuitive. But not as godly as most say. Listen to songs like The Phantom Of The Opera, with very complex bass lines and time signature changes. Cliff was good, but there are better. His style was unique, and definitely fit in with Metallica, don't get me wrong, but in terms of skills and writing there are better, though his style is irreplacable. Hence post ...And Justice For All being not so good... Heh.

  • not gonna lie his bass sounds like shit. good player but this just sounds like a fuzzy, crappy mess imo.

  • Most bassists (especially rock/metal bassists) usually sound like crap if you take away the rest of the band. Cliff likely made his tone like this to compliment and balance the heavier sound (enhanced lows, almost no mids). In RTD, it sounded like he tried to punch through James' sound by adding lots of mids and highs. He is audible if you listen close, but he was mixed way too low. For MOP he just did the opposite, only James' turned up his lows and mids and ate up most of Cliff's tone.

  • amazing bassist. not the best, up there though! BUT Steve Harris owns the best bassist spot.

  • I hate to say this, but this dude is better/watch?v=cSFKCBTtvVU&feature=feedrec_grec_index

  • Go watch some of his live stuff.

    You will change your mind.

  • I never realized how dependant Cliff was on distortion. I wonder if that was an influence from motorhead, or if the producer suggested it to give the notes more definition.

  • Also, If you listen to other metal bands from the 80's and you will hear for yourself why Metallica was "the" metal band. They perfectly blended everything and showcased composition, speed, melodicism, harmony, intensity, contrary motion, parallel motion, odd-time, you name it. they showcased it tastefully. Testament,Slayer,Exodus,Anthrax, Overkill and probably 20 more bands had the same shot they did, but just couldn't quite break through like Metallica could.

  • Comment removed

  • @willzoid33 Totally wrong, Metallica was "the" metal band 'cause it was simple, just compare Master of Puppets with Megadeth's Holy Wars, Anthrax's Caught In a Mosh, Testament's Over the Wall, King Diamond's A Mansion In Darkness, Kreator's Betrayer. I think I've named some popular songs of each band, and I really think that they're all more complex than Master, which not necesary means better, but metallica didn't made ir for their complex music, in fact, they made it for their simplier tunes.

  • Time to set it straight. I've been a Metallica fan for years, know all their music and am a bass player as well. When I was younger player I thought Cliff was the greatest until I learned of Wooten,Sheehan, Pastorius etc. I gotta say I was taken aback by these master copies because I thought Cliff played tighter, but hey he didn't. But Cliff did bring a plethora of knowledge to his bandmates with his theory. You can really hear his influence as the band got more and more melodic from each album.

  • i love how he made percussion sounds with his fingers at the same time he played the bass. That's something that u cannot do with a guitar.

  • @SilentAssassin187 It's the distortion...

  • yeah.. i agree with most of the comments.. he was just a filler in the band... he is no up to the level of the others.. bet they loved him.. i believe he probably was a very nice guy and they get along very well with him.

  • @sicoticosandro Cliff Burton turned Metallica from a good thrash band into the greatest band in metal. And listen to him shredding live if you think he's "filler".

  • @antonio610 Yeah, i've listen this instrumental song in their first album that i don't remember the name, and i know he played it live, A lot of distortion and a good melody, but not that skilled neither, but hey, metallica is not known for his powerful bass, in fact, it is barely heared in their albums. maybe he was a good songwriter, i don't known but i tend to think that he wasn't the main character in this band.

  • Watch this for the best bassist who ever lived (no disrespect to Cliff though) -

    watch?v=FyRX_cIA3wE

  • cliff plays very good

  • Surprisingly sloppy. It's not that hard to play distorted without sounding messy. Still, better than loads of metal bassists and riffwriters out there (proof in Orion). Wonder what he would've thought of the Black Album.

  • @antonio610 He would have been like NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I have made a bass tab with this master track, as well as Fade to Black and a few other (Sanitarium, Disposable Hero, etc)... It's easy with thoses versions and the guitar hero expert charts to figure out what is going on, about anyone with a basic knowledge of bass can do it... Now if only they would release a master track for Call Of Ktulu my life would be complete.

  • dont get me wrong, this guy's great....but hes the kurt cobain of bass players, he just gets overrated cause hes dead, all respect. I love his bass lines, fun to play and all but hes not as amazing as people lead him off to be. Still in my metal top 10, but I mean look at some of the others...Steve Harris, Ryan Martinie, Justin Chancellor, Troy Saunders can all really hold their own and add so much essence to the band...not that I hate him, but he's Cliff Burton, a sick bass player, not god

  • @eric11127 JASON FTW!

  • @eric11127 The difference between good and God is preference.

  • @eric11127 I agree to an extent, But his contribution to the band creatively was huge for the group. But not all that amazing of a player.

  • @eric11127 You forgot Les Claypool.

  • @eric11127 yea but dude. look at how old he was and he was that good. take a look at Steve Harris, Ryan Martinie, Justin Chancellor, and Troy Saunders. If Cliff never died and actually aged, then over time he'd probably be one the greatest bassist of all time.

  • @TheDarkPrince360 I doubt he'd be one of the best. No one beats Jaco

  • @eric11127 I don't think Cliff is the best bassist because of his technique, I like him because of his technique, of course, but I think he is the best because he is one hell of a songwriter, I mean, just look at Orion, it was composed entirely by him (except for the guitar solos) and the bass solos in Orion are just AWESOME. Not only did he play them, he also composed them

  • @nicobal666 yes but steve harris writes most of Maidens stuff, and is technically more skilled than Burton, again not dissing Burton

  • @eric11127 hell no CLIFF BURTON IS THE BEST EVER

  • @eric11127 Pretty sure that's not true. I call him the best because he is the best.

  • @eric11127 As opinionated as all these statements are, Cliff Burton isn't considered the best bassist because he's dead. He did in 3 Albums what most couldn't accomplish in a lifetime. He might not be the best bassist, but he did set I high bar. Don't forget (He was 24!!!), that is incredible. Mastery, Consistency, and a legacy at the age of 24. Compare him more to Jimi Hendrix, not Kurt Cobain.

  • @eric11127 dude listen to his solos

  • @mratticus17 Yeah, honestly there isn't much that I feel from those solos that separates him from better bass players. Just because he deviated a bit from traditional metal bass playing doesn't make what people make his work and ability out to be.

  • @eric11127 I think had his life not been cut short he could have grown to be comparable to those you mentioned

  • @eric11127 you got a poitn hes not the best, just because he tragicaly died but he fit the best with the band they where the four horsemen, but mainly hes got unique aspects liek his distortion and all around style that set him apart from alot of bassists

  • @eric11127 Bull crap. I just got into Metallica a year, or so, ago, and I think Cliff is the best because it's true.

  • @thelegendoflink52 no hes right. cliffs my favorite but steve harris is better, not to mention non metal bassist like geddy lee or JPJ. cliff is the most original for his time though. havent seen stuff similar to him since maybe chris wolfstenholme ( the dude from muse ) in originality.

  • @thelegendoflink52 Steve Harris is the best and has been for a long time.

  • @Lowryda24 @ScooterAndOtis Well, you guys have your opinion, and I have mine.

  • @eric11127 No. I idolize what he did and used to do on bass more than him as a person, why? Because I didn't know him personally.

  • @eric11127

    This 10000 million times over.

  • @eric11127 LOL WHAT STEVE HARRIS?

stopped reading there. enjoy your inferior taste

  • i could easily listen to this all day... Cliff Burton was pure genius, enough said.

  • I think this is realy awesome and clif omg was a great bassist ¡¡

  • It's a shame he died so young - the metal landscape would be very different if cliff was still around.

  • cliff really should have been better at getting his bass sound out there. if i was in the band i would demand better mixing. the mixes in rock band and guitar hero are perfect, why couldn't the CDs be like that?

  • easy sounding than guitar lmao

  • @thechuckwillkill I agree but most songs with metallica I hear with Cliff Burton all I hear is his bass clacking. James guitar really swallowed up Cliffs bass sound I think.

  • @nightbringer757 I agree that most times we hear more of his bass clacking than the melodies of his basslines. But that's not his responsability. Metallica's mixing process always put guitars and drums on top of everything, which left cliff's basslines in that almost-impossible-to-listen volume. Only since Black Album people could actually listen to something close to a recognizable bass track. And only in Death Magnetic, people actually listen to it.

  • @nightbringer757 Actually, if you focus a lot, you can listen to cliff's bass in most songs, but things shouldn't be like this. In other metal bands people don't have to work so hard just to get a glimpse of one of the band's instruments. Specially if that band member is a god-like figure like Cliff.

  • i like this song but when i hear this i like more

  • how can any of u say that cliffs tone is crap?? and then say it doesnt matter? Cliff was a god among men and his bass added a TON to metallica's music. why do u think metallica went downhill after And Justice for All? Cliff wasnt there to add his input. Cliff was without a doubt the best to ever live \m/

  • HES GOT BLISTERS ON DEM FINGERS

  • @PivotWithCake nahh Cliff has deh fingurs of steeeeal

  • @PivotWithCake

    Ringo also lol

  • @PivotWithCake yah to bad that was the beatles :\

  • fucking awesome

  • Cliffs tone is crap

  • @imadey0utube yea it is

  • @imadey0utube You're crap

  • @wtfpenguinwtf Don't worry, it's just bass lol, it practically doesn't matter how it sounds, I mean this is metal we're talking about.

  • @imadey0utube thanks to that tone, guitars don't sound like shit on that song..

  • @imadey0utube

    YOU ARE CRAP

  • Cliff is overrated, he was a good bass player, but people set him on some kind of pedestal because he died (which is a damn shame) exactly what people are doing with Heath Ledger, no way that his Joker interpretation would be so loved if he hadn't died.

Don't know why they chose that kind of effect on the bass though, it sounds horrible, everything blends together.

  • @666metalmelisha Ok I don't know every gay fanboy detail, but I do know how to play like all their songs on guitar. I think that's better.

  • @Jamesadeth whoa man....sure you may think hes overrated but hes doing stuff way more diverse than jason and i little more hardcore than araya all with his fingers and not a pick.

  • @666metalmelisha use your ears. His bass tracks all suck. Also I heard when cliff died they dragged his body behind the tour bus for miles to celebrate.

  • @Jamesadeth wtf is wrong with you

  • @Blom5634 Hu hu hu ha ha ha ha...

  • @Jamesadeth just so you know, you're a fucking fool. Learn your fucking facts before you try to troll anything dipshit.

  • Guys... Just leave Cliff be. Back when he was alive he was a god to bass. He did the first recorded bass solo by a metal band and that was back when the bass was considered nothing. You have to give the guy props for what he did with the bass. Yeah his playing might not have been the greatest but it was the best back then, whether you agree or not is your own problem not mine.

  • I hoped this audio proves how overrated cliff is. He sucks by the way.

  • @Jamesadeth Yeah this coming from a Megafanboy; i dont think we'll take your comment to seriously.

Megadeth kicks ass but we need less "fans" like you.

  • @DEFINEMETALisBACK hey I like metallica too, I just think cliff was an overreted dirty hippie. But def Slayer ftw.

  • @Jamesadeth cliff is miles better bassist than Tom Araya or any bassist Megadeth have ever had. For the times, the only bassist thats ever been better than Alex Webster.

  • @DEFINEMETALisBACK Whoa whoa whoa! David ellefson is way better then cliff. You can actually hear his bass lines. Also Jason newsted also kicks cliff ass. and Araya better cuz he sings for slayer. And alex he's good to.

  • @Jamesadeth If you cant hear his bass lines in the song its because you're deaf. Or its the mastering of the CD, not the bassist.

if you cant hear cliffs bass lines in the songs, then you need ear surgery.

Remember, bass lines for songs aren't supposed to sound good by themselves, they're made to fit the song, and thats what this bassline did.

If you heard a death metal vocalist by himself, he would sound retarded, but they dont because their vocals match the music.

  • @DEFINEMETALisBACK Look up Om if you don't think basslines aren't meant to sound good themselves lol.

  • @Jamesadeth instead of letting you read a lot of text, all summed up it's: You fail, you don't know anything about basses or music in general, you can't compare musicians, shut up and go play outside.

  • @Jamesadeth Yeah buddy.. I don`t even know why Im replying to your comment but really i must. YOU FUCKING SUCK!!!! All those Bassists you mentioned would tell you that Cliff was the man. You don`t know shit son. You suck and have no talent.

  • @dethmag well i must reply to you that anybody that has any respect for cliff burton is a politically correct corporate sell out. jus like ppl who hold jimi hendrix with any regard. It's like that in the music industry if you die young suddenly your a god. Same goes for dime except he was pretty good. But hay i don't gotta say shit. listen to this recording. It sounds like an arthridic palsy patient playing a rogue bass thru a 5 watt first act amp. also cliff like wore bell bottums so...

  • @Jamesadeth With all due respect I think you are a media junkie. Dude, I am old enough to remember Cliff in the band. I respect Cliff for one reason, he was the bassist in the band I grew up with. Politicalkly correct corporate sell out?? Dude, chill I love the music, love what Cliff was and will talk about Cliff anytime because of the dude he was and the bass he played. I dont know what youre talkin about bro.

  • @Jamesadeth MAJOR RAGER ON THE FOUR STRING MOTHAFUCKA! oh yeah ...FUCK YOU

  • @Jamesadeth cliff can wear whatever he wants troll

  • Videos like these are so much better to learn by ear from than the original track where you hear the bass hardly at all x]

  • And here's how to tell it's Cliff's bass: at 4:08 he makes a little mistake, like a slip of a finger or something. You can clearly hear it here, and you can hear it on the CD.

  • the feedback form his fingers could be a great track on its own

  • his playing is really weird but i always liked it

  • cliff till death you motherfuckers!!!!!!!!!! metallica till death!!!!! thrash on, thrash hard!

  • ABURRIDOOOO !!!

  • OMG It's the GH track now shut the fuck up!!!

  • This is not Cliff Burton.

  • @34phardy yes it is

  • @TheRasze Sorry dude, this is NOT Cliff's track. I will bet my life on it. Cliff had a MONSTER bass sound that came from how he attacked the bass. This sounds like it was finger picked by a fairy . . . no balls whatsoever. And besides that, it isn't even being played right.

  • @34phardy atleast this is the exact tone cliff had...

  • @34phardy This is Cliff's track. I can hear the attack perfectly well.

  • @34phardy yeah that hows cliff played. he sucked balls.

  • This sort of bass tone carries better live i would suppose thats why cliff used it and it also compliments the guitar very well , has a lot of bottom and yet a lot of distortion grip to add to the guitar's impact in the final mix.

  • Anyone know how i can remove like guiatr, vocals and drums of a song so i only hear bass?

  • @vVjosseVv This is an exploitation of the master tracks, included in Rock Band and Guitar hero.

  • wow , I conclude all the bass tabs are wrong !!

  • @bebert54850

Totally agree!Human ear is not always straightahead...

Me tooI`ve learned a lot but listening to thi track...

    Thanks for posting,darkragnorog21!

Cliff was(still IS) a genious, and a good boy, first of all!!

  • His playing is excellent, it's his bass tone that blows. I know, I know, it fits in the final mix but it could sound better, no?

  • Unfortunate that this is not as prominate in the Master of puppets mix. Would have been awesome to hear him play live.

As if people actually come on here just to bash cliff burton, If you don't like him, Don't listen to him.

  • @nightbringer757 thats why you buy the book not go by what they say i learnded that the hard way

  • WTF, why is watching this in HD even an option. hahaha.

Cliff was good, BUT he is not on the same level as Wooten, or Marcus Miller, or even Claypool.

  • @sirvent67 Because, the audio is substantially higher quality than the 380p version.

  • rest in peace cliff

  • I just realized every master of puppets bass tab is WRONG!!

  • @nightbringer757 WTF you're right!

  • @nightbringer757 hohoho...damn right man!Cliff was fucking one!

  • @nightbringer757 i have tabbed this 100% correct from using rock band and playing bass myself .... the only thing i have a hard time figuring out is where slides begin and where they end ... i mean i'm close but i know its not 100% ... like 99.92%

  • @nightbringer757 every orion bass tab is wrong also.

  • @nightbringer757 90 percents of the tabs out there on the internet are made by ears by random musicians, so 90 percents of tabs are possibly wrong

  • The timing could be tighter. Nevertheless Cliff rules! This is what you get by playing with fingers..

  • @SpectralUltra

bass is not about playing everything tight. cliff is really pushing the song forward, and thats the important thing!

  • @HyperJN I ment the same thing. : )

  • @SpectralUltra

People would rather change the rules of what makes someone good than admit that someone was JUST a good player, nothing more.

  • lol all you lot calm down, its just music.

  • fadetoblack1290 and JohnBurninate...

why dont you go outside and meet each other and fuck yourselfs??

    we are enjoying music.

  • Also - Cliff only used to pluck with his fingers - not like your regular guitarist - and the traditional bass playing style.

  • omg... he wasn't as good as everyone says. he was kinda sloppy and overrated.

  • I love you cliff , <3.

  • david ellefson ftw

  • Comment removed

  • You gotta remember dude, this was 1986. Imagine how good Cliff would be today if he were still here.

And to everyone who keeps doubting that this is Cliff needs to pull their heads out of their asses. It's him. You gotta realize that he fingerpicked.

  • I acknowledge he's a legend and that he influenced god knows how many bassists...but a lot of kids these days don't even know who Alex Webster or Steve DiGiorgio are (just to mention a couple of Death Metal bassists, which IMHO are amazing).

  • @SlimJimVG

Not everyone listens death metal dude.....

  • @turborexsir trujillo kicked his ass at the same point in his career.Cliff is insanley over rated.Hes up there with cobain and hendrix in the fact that death made them underserving ultra gods.

  • @JohnBurninate Please go FUCKING end your life.

  • @fadetoblack1290 Wow,I guess your logic defeats mine greatly.lol,go play with the other fangirls this is a big kid conversation. The man is very sloppy and if you honestly think he(along with the people I mentioned) were near as hyped before their death your are in serious need of a reality check. If you were a guitarist/bassist you'd easily agree with me.
